Title: Dambuster for lancaster
Post by: SKYGUNS on April 16, 2008, 10:35:11 PM
When the brithish invented this bomb for destroying german dambs they soon used it to take out ships as well, this bomb is a bomb shaped like a can and contains a large amount of explosives when droped at low alt it would skip across the sea until it hit its targets or sunk. You may thinkthis would make it too easy to kill cvs but remember, a slow and big lancaster at low alt woul be vonerable to fighters and anti-air.

Erm ...

"13- Do not punt topics. Punting would be making a non-substantive post for the express purpose of bring the thread to the top of the thread list.

14- Members should post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing". That is users should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or coloured text, etc. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts."

Just sayin'.  :huh

SKYGUNS, I'd personally really like to see this in game, but I think you should post a bit more information, and perhaps links to webpages about this topic.  However, to make sure that these wouldn't be misused, e.g. against CVs, I think it would either have to be:  a) heavily perked, or b) somehow only available if you made a mission or something to destroy a dam.

To have these would also mean that dams would have to be put in Aces High, and possibly an effect for what happens if they get hit and destroyed by one of these bombs.  Also, the Lancaster would need an extra variant added (maybe perked payload/configuration, when these come out?) so this would mean it would probably need to be updated.

I can see it now. Maps with dams and multiple strats to flood. Almost kinda like having nukes. The gnashing and wailing would be intolerable. Almost enough to make me an advocate. But not quite. ;)

Again ..... no dam busting in Spain. That's the country south of France. The time .... 1938. Uberbipes, faster than most of the bombers then .... and there. A dogfighter paradise.

I'm sorry .... I've deviated to something that might be a tad bit more practical yet still a hard sale to pitch. :D

Just for the record, I believe these were also referred to as "Bouncing Bettys".

Yeah, we should definitely add these to the game because, you know, we definitely have dams in this game.

Theirs no dam's in the game. Why even post a topic about something we don't even have.

He was suggesting it in the context of using it to sink CV's.

We already have dive bombing Lancasters that sink carriers.

If it were perk ordinance it could be ok.

similar names but a big differance in what they actually are... bouncing bettys shot up and exploded at waist height, slicing you in half.
a bouncing bomb is a frikin barrel full of bombs, its even more fun than a barrel of monkeys!!!!    :O

There was another version of the bouncing bomb called 'Highball' which could be dropped from a Mosquito and IIRC were made for the anti shipping role - don't think they ever saw service though.

And the nickname for the Bouncing Bomb was 'Upkeep'
