I've been watching them come into Lackland in formation all day for the last 2 at Seaworld San Antonio.
I'm on a rollercoaster, awesome! Then look up and see an F-16 rolling out of a turn. Damn... I'd rather be riding that :O

*cue* the Top Gun theme music... next post the little convertible & motorcycle...

The F-15 and F-16 are definitely 10x better looking than the F-22 and F-35.

Until this thread I had no idea the F-16 also had 'Viper' as a nickname.

Excuse me kid but you got much to learn. Not sure if you realize it but you are on a forum related to a game set in the era of POSPP (Piece of S*** Props Planes) and they can't do more than 4G's....or wait, maybe they can, until a wing rips off. :lol

Tomcats by Choice, Hornets by Mandate!, Remember that.

The correct name is F-16 Fighting Falcon. It is nicknamed the Viper because the intake is huge like the snake's mouth. Look at an F-16 from the side (like in the picture up top) and it even looks like a snake. ;)

Thank you V1per!
i tried to make it a subtle point to the kids off the small bus.
-
Honestly, because of the large intake below the cockpit, I've always felt it should have been named "Mustang II".

PHANTOMS PHOREVER!

Other than on pedestals by airports I have never seen an F4 in person...
Going back to childhood it was the first, only, and COOLEST model I ever made. painted dark blue top for ocean camo, light blue / gray bottom. Of course I played with it and it broke to crap, but it was the coolest jet plane I ever knew.
It's still my favorite plane as in looks except the Dora, and Blackbird, they all about equal.
What I'd give to see one live, ramp up, hit the afterburners and take off like a shot!

F4's Phantoms = meanest sounding Jet evar!

Nef, you are evil :lol just making me wish... thing is I actually know an F4 pilot sort of, someone my mother knew years ago tom hutchinson <spelling> I grew up with his daughter leann and didn't learn until last year he was a tomcat pilot. he has since moved away and I can't learn all the cool toejam. :(

I remember this one at an airshow here in Houston in the mid-70's.

An interesting fact I learned about the F-16 from a guy that worked both the F-4 and the F-16 was that the F-16 at idle moved more air through the intake than the F-4 did in afterburner! The F-16 requires about a minimum 20 foot clearance during idle runs in the run station.
