14 pilots broke the "no second life rule" concerning AC last night in FSO.
11 of them are from 3 different squads. Their CO's have been notified. They will sit out the last 2 frames of this event. See you for the July event.
Please use the next three weeks to familiarize yourself with the RULES of FSO.
3 pilots are rouge, and were not with a squad. They will be put on the E.O.S. (Eject On Sight) list indefinitely.
If someone will claim "Womacks" as in their squad, his suspension will only be till July's event.
There will be NO discussion, and NO recension of this decision.

Sled,
Was there a difference made in accidental (and promptly corrected) second lifes or intentional acts of rule breaking? I fell into the first category for it was truely an honest error and I apoligize for it none the less. My total flight was less than 2 minutes or about the time it took to takeoff and setup for a landing. Hopefully there was a distinction made between the two when it comes to these suspensions.
My apoligizies,
Strip

Yes, distinctions were made. Sled and I both spent hours going through the raw logs.
If you have been suspended for the rest of "Guadalcanal, The Green Hell" you and your squad probably have already been contacted (or were shortly be contacted).

Btw, I had planned on getting out the scoring today and objectives for frame 2 today. Instead been dealing with this. So I hope to get objectives out tomorrow. As for scoring that is going to take a while and I might not be as exact as I would normally like it to be since I have to go over all the kills and bomb damage now to see what is valid and what is not.

:salute And well done, gents. Not only on the Scenario, but nabbing and sticking to your guns on the rules breakers.
I distinctly recall at least twice and probably three times the CMs stated the ONE LIFE rule before flight.

I don't know if this is proper or not, as people don't usually like to embarass others, but it is a thought. I wondering if we should have a viewable location where people who are currently suspended (with the infraction, and only as long as the suspension is in effect) is displayed, and/or those permanently banned.
Social disgrace -- once it is known that there is a Hall of Shame visible to the community -- is actually a quite powerful deterrent.
-
In the past, the only thing that came from posting who got penalized and why was a gossip circle, and a massive debate by people that were not part of the issue.
As it is, the CM team is going to discuss the penalty with the penalized, and that's it, for all events. If the player who is penalized has an issue with it, they can appeal to the Team Lead, if that doesn't satisfy them, they can appeal to Lead CM.
Other than that, we are just not going to be putting this stuff public as it just encourages people to weigh in with limited facts behind their opinions. Then the CM team spends their time explaining a bunch of stuff to people that are not involved.
The most powerful deterrent we have is to simply remove the players who fail to grasp the rules and concepts, and spend our time actually accomplishing something in the events.

It's late and perhaps I missed it. Will you be making further adjustments to balance out the sides now that we're missing players/squads?
-
I think it needs clarified on how/when to get permission to re-up after some unforeseen instance as that seems to be an issue. Some examples of what i think are ok re-up items would be, say a disco 5 min after launch, unforeseen cp/joystick/game problem, carrier not put in proper location before fields are opened and therefore still turning when fields are opened causing mass augers and crashes.
We need a written explanation on how/what one should do in some of these situations as i don't think a guy that disco's 5 min after launch should have to sit out the FSO for something beyond his control. But if you go by the rules of 1 life, he just lost his, same as the guys that get augered/crashed off a turning cv at the start.
IMO these type of problems need addressed and put into the rules on what to do if this happens. I understand that if you go out engage the enemy, get shot down, then your done, that is 1 life and that's it. But there are situations that come up that should allow a player to re-up and enjoy the FSO other than crash on takeoff and sit for the next hour or so.
I don't think the CM of the FSO is going to want 20 pm's asking if they can re-up after being slung off a turning cv at the start of a frame. Just my 2 cents on this.

You mean, like they should put it in the rules?
5. Events and Settings
- Anyone who crashes on take off or has a mishap may reup without asking but only in the first 15 minutes of the frame, and only if you have not been engadged by the enemy.
- Fields close 15 minutes after the hour except for discos.
- Discos may reup up to 30 minutes after the hour.
- After 30 minutes the fields are closed and no reups are allowed (unless design allows for a 2nd life)
-
Thank you CM team. <<S>>

did i break the no second life rule, because i was in a f4f before i upped and i had to end sortie because i didn't have enough fuel, would that make me on of the 14 pilots

What in the hell is going on out there. All the sudden a few people just decide to screw with things. Its the same in Koth. Stop all these warnings, CM's give yourselves wider discretionary powers and eject people perminatly for doing stupid things repeatedly. I don't remember the last time I broke a rule and it has been so long I can't remember when I started to fly FSO.

No I understand the rules, i'm just saying with the addition of so many new squads/players it needed to be clarified again. There are acceptable times and situations to re-up and other times that will get you busted. Ghostdancer spelled it out in his newest post for the guys so hopefully it will go a little smoother now. :aok

So makeup is no longer allowed in FSOs? We'll have to let Silat know....

I am referring to vagabond pilots. :)
Silat may wear his make-up.

Just teasing you for the typo -- knew you meant "rogue"

If people could spend that much time analyzing the objectives, orders, and rules of FSO. Then it might be funny picking out the mistakes people make on the BBs.
People will spend hours looking for someone to slip up on their spelling, so they can poke fun at them for it. Then they will tell us we need a rule about second life AC. (They don't know there is one because they haven't read the rules!)
I guess learning how to participate in a event correctly is not as fun as finding spelling errors. :huh

That's why I use Firefox because it comes with a built in spell check, also I see now that they added a spell check into the BBS itself.
I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the worlds best speller, spell check really comes in handy.

You do realize that is not my point.

I had 1 a6m2 pilot who upped a 2nd life, but augered once told no 2nd life was given to us. He was new to FSO, my fault.
I had another pilot up as a ship gunner, but towered 1 min afterwards.
Sorry about that.
Frame 1 was a bad one for us, but a great learning experience.
Frame 2 was great, enough though outnumbered, we gave the allies hell defending our Carrier. SK's were sighted behind the main allied force..muahaha.

Oh yeah, I know you meant that people need to worry about other things then critiquing other peoples spelling on these BBS's, I was just saying that the spell check built into Firefox is a really big help for those of use that do have a hard time spelling, plus I also just wanted people to know about Firefox having a built in spell check that can really come in handy.

Easy to see that my attempt at kidding around went somehow horribly wrong....
I know your job involves being at the center of seemingly endless carping, but honestly I think you need to lighten up. Nobody attacked you, and nobody was hunting for mistakes. The post was light hearted -- not a criticism, not pointing out some personality flaw.
And I have never complained about an FSO setup or rule...for me the FSO is completely about fun. In fact, even though I've participated in the last 11 FSO frames without missing a night I have absolutely completely NO idea who "won" any of them. And believe me I have far, far, far better things to do than to search the BBS for grammar errors by people I hardly know.
In short, your hair trigger defensiveness is a bit out of line, IMHO.

Yet another shameless Firefox plug from my intrepid leader. I think he is secretly employed as an advertising agent for them. Methinks tis time for him to start sharing the swag! muahaha!

Sorry Simaril, I guess that did come across as pointing a finger at you. I was more trying to give everybody something to think about.
If I could rephrase...... I would say to everybody.
Please put the same effort (or more) into participating in FSO as you do into other things in AH (like monitoring the BB). To be a quality participant in FSO, requires attention and effort. It is very frustrating dealing with people that show up for an event asking questions that have been clearly spelled out in the rules, objectives, and orders. This event requires all of you to do some reading, on a weekly basis. Please do so. it will make your time (and the FSO teams) more enjoyable.
Again Simaril, my apologies. I know you were not attacking me.

IMHO, the best way the play FSO. This attitude in FSO maximizes your fun, and minimizes your disappointment.

Lol...no offense taken, bud. It's hard enough trying to get across the impression you're after with the internet, but add in the "late at night after running an FSO and trying to rein in the clueless ones" effect -- and I'd EXPECT you to be a bit crunchy.

I've always felt that way too, I mean who cares you actually won the scoring of the event, it's not like the winning side wins prizes & money, if you showed up & had fun then you've already won.
