A guy I know who is a republican always sends me republican crap that he gets forwrded from his pals, because he knows is gets under my skin. So I retaliated by signing him up for email alerts to Moveon.org and Hillary Clinton's web site and other democrat stuff.
So today he send's me this little gem of a story, and I couldn't help myself by adding my commentary at the end and sending it back to all his conservative pals. Heh heh heh.
A Child Makes It Simple:
I'm reminded of the time that Catherine, one of Shannon 's friends, when she was little - told me that she wanted to be President one day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there with us and I asked Catherine - 'If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?'
Catherine replied - 'I would give houses to all the homeless people.'
'Wow - what a worthy goal you have there Catherine.' I told her, 'You don't have to wait until you're President to do that, you can come over to my house and clean up all the dog poop in the back yard and I will pay you $5 dollars. Then we can go over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $5 dollars to use for a new house.
'Catherine (who was about 4) thought that over for a second, while her mom looked at me seething, and Catherine replied, 'Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and clean up the dog poop and you can pay him the $5 dollars?'
Welcome to the Republican Party, Catherine
And of course it's simple people that think like a child and get inspiration from such little pearls of wisdom.
Unfortunately, in the above story little Catherine never asked "Mommy, why does the man at the grocery store not have a home?"
Well, little Catherine, its kind of complicated, but say for instance a long time ago that old man at the grocery store was a young man. The president needed his help so he sent him to a country called Vietnam, where he was a courageous soldier and did many brave things. But he got wounded in body and mind and had to come home to get better. So The president had the doctors fix up his body, but they didn't think fixing his mind was important and cost too much money which is what republicans used to worry about back then, about how much money everything cost and not going into a deficit. Now they think differently about such things.
So the doctors make the man's body better and then cut off his benefits saying he is well. But the man has nightmares and can't sleep and he has delusions like the boogey man is going to get him just like you do Catherine, and he can't hold a job. So he wanders around going to soup kitchens for food and homeless shelters for a bed when it's cold outside and republicans don't care about him anymore because he can't pull himself up by his boot straps and they think he smells funny so they avoid him.
Then, a new republican president comes along and decides not to spend as much money on the soup kitchens and homeless shelters unless a church is doing it so that the tax money of all the people can help poor people hear about Jesus and God before they can eat or sleep. So now the homeless man sits outside the grocery store and wonders not only why the president and other politicians who sent him to help in a war abandoned him and didn't help him when he couldn't help himself, but he also now has to wonder why if Jesus loves him so much then why won't Jesus fix his mind, help him sleep and get a job?
But don't worry little Catherine, liberal democrats have feelings for and try to help the downtrodden, homeless and forgotten just like Jesus taught them to. And the republicans, well they kind of help people become downtrodden and forgotten and they call it an "Ownership Society", so that other people like democrats can help save them just like Jesus would. I guess we need those republicans after all so we liberal democrats can do good things to help people, huh Catherine?
Well Catherine, the moral of the story is this: liberal democrats have to go around and clean up the dog poop that conservative republicans always leave behind, and if the democrats win this upcoming presidential election, it's going to take every shovel and every garbage can in the whole world to clean up the poop the last president left behind!
-
were you one of those who's body is healed but not his mind?
-
So the homeless guy can't hold a regular job. How does that stop him him from earning 5 bucks by picking up a litttle dog poop?
-

I think if you actually read the response you would know the answer to that question :)

Storch I knew you would come out of the woodwork. You are so transparent.. Hows Amway? :rofl

pretty good thanks. with the extra money coming in from the slow economy I'm going to buy some new steel toe boots to kick a few liberals at the next habitat for humanity meeting. oh forgive me. I should have congratulated you on the clever troll in my first response. welcome back I have missed your posts.
-

I read your entire post. Was the guy in your story able to pick up a little dog poop or not? Some spend more time and effort making up excuses than just rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty. Most of these are lazy rather than disabled. If you're too lazy to work you shouldn't eat.
-
Then he'd have nightmares about dog poop and find himself adrift in a sea of conservative induced misfortune again. ;)
-

See... he wanted too, but a mexican said he'd do it for 4 bucks, but when he showed up to scoop it, he found it was outsourced to India for 3 bucks.

Ironically, Silat has not a clue. Not only do I vote the issues (no party affiliation) but I've actually voted for Democrats in past elections. I guess that's why my political compass consistently comes up within 1.5 of center.
Silat, Irony is thy name. :lol

Silut, as much as I hate to tell you this. going to anyway.
your version of the homeless guy is perfect for the United States Postal Service.
a sure shoo in for getting a job there.
they just love hiring people like your homeless guy.

Little Catherine, you will learn an important lesson today. There are the unlucky, and then there are the homeless. The homeless are chronically unlucky.
The democrats like to call that "Downtrodden." The real world likes to call that "Incompetent." Little Catherine, you will soon start to recognize that the same kind of people are always failing at all aspects of life. Either they have given up, or they were never able.
While any person can donate any time or money they want, as this is America and they are free to do so if they wish, to these "Downtrodden," the Democrats don't want you to have that choice. They will forcibly take your money and give it to these people who will never even try to get better in life.
If you don't like this, they will punish you.
The democrats call this social justice. The real world calls the democrats Thieves.

There's only been one homeless person I had total respect for. His honesty was to be rewarded and thusly I did. He had a sign, a simple sign, that read, "I can't lie, I need a beer!" What red blooded man hasn't needed a beer badly at one point in their life? I bought that man a beer.

If it were up to me. the Gov wouldn't be sending ANY money to soup kitchens or homeless shelters at all.
While a certain amount of social programs are needed they should have a very finite time limit and should be designed in a way as to help people to help themselves. And not just some open ended freebie.
Starvation is a great motivator
If you must have government paid for soup kitchens. Tie them to some sort of rendered service.
In other words.. You want food and a cot for a night. Then go clean up the litter along the side of the road.
Or attend this school that will teach you a trade.
Then they are at least contributing something or we are at least investing into their future where they may eventually become active taxpaying participants in society.
All the respect in the world for vets.
But it seems to me that for every vet who has such problems they cant cope with. There are thousands more who do manage.
So it can be done.
If you want to be christian about it. I can answer the question of
"Jesus loves him so much then why won't Jesus fix his mind, help him sleep and get a job?"
There is an old saying that holds as true today as the first day it was ever uttered
"The lord will help those who are willing to help themselves"
This would explain why there are allot of vets who do manage.
Even though it may not be easy
They were willingot help themselves.
But I will agree. More should be done for our vets.
They at least earned it.
There are also social programs already on the books they can take advantage of. Social security and Disability.
I've known people who have managed to live on both without becoming homeless are having to eat at soup kitchens
Furthermore. Soup kitchens do not need government funding. With a stroke of the pen they can ease regulations on restaurants donating left over food to soup kitchens.
Perfectly good food that they have to throw away at the end of each day (My sister in law runs a luncheonette)
If any group. Democrat or republican believes they should follow the teachings of Jesus by helping the downtrodden.
Then by all means they should be allowed to do so.
Implementing long term government run social programs from taxpayer money is ALWAYS a huge mistake.
As the government proves to the observant time and time again. ANY program that is government run is typically top heavy in bureaucracy and anything but efficient.
That these aren't programs to help the poor and downtrodden.
These are programs to help and line the pockets of political bosses ,cronies and party contributors disguised as programs to help people.
I defy you to find me an extended list of government run programs that are efficient. Or where the majority of the money goes to the people that are supposed to be helped by them and not to the people running them.
A far better idea is rather then force the money out of peoples pockets. would be for tax break incentives for people to donate directly to the charity of choice in either monetary or material donations.
Extended social programs are nothing more then social bloatware
A government run anything isn't exactly world renowned as the epitome of efficiency

sure is funny how "homeless" has a season.. like little ducks they come out in the spring and go away in the winter. I guess the compassionate democrats aren't smart enough to notice.
they also seem to have missed the fact that the "old man at the grocery store" is 38 year old and far too young to have been to vietnam.. course.. they are products of the public school mess that they have created and continue to support so they really can't be expected to do the math.

Had a woman that was standing at one of the overpasses near where I live. She would hold a sign and she was pregnant. Went by here every day for a year and you know that baby never popped. Longest pregnancy I have ever seen. Most people aren't homeless by chance. Majority have chosen that lifestyle. We also have a large homeless population in St Petersburg, FL. The city tried to move them at one point and all of the bleeding heart liberals would not let the city move them. You drive to downtown and in the middle of a bueatiful park, you cannot walk without tripping over a homeless person sleeping. This country ws built on the premise that you pick yourself up off of the ground, put your boots on and get to work for what you need. Stop taking my money and giving it to people that don't deserve it. Or better yet, let me say where my taxes go.
-
Silat, do yourself a favor and don't compose any more stories. You have no concept of narrative flow.
That story ended, and its point was made, when the girl asked why the homeless guy doesn't earn his own money. Everything else was impotent wishy-washiness, searching yet never finding a conclusion as tight and complete as the one you'd already reached with the girl's honest, to-the-point question.
When she followed up with 'why doesn't he have a home?', a more honest answer would have been: 'because he's waiting for the democrats to build him one'.

You know it hit me the other day and I think we can solve all these problems once and for all.
Send all the "so called" Republicans that hate the way we do it here, to Afghanistan. I was thinking Afghan is the right wingers Utopia. Everyone has guns, everyone believes in god or they hang you. They pay no taxes and the govt does pretty much nothing for them. They can go play with their guns anytime they want it's gotta be the prefect place for a "so called" Republican. The added bonus is they hang gay people and thieves I mean how much better can you get?
I think I'm going to make a few travel brochures and start sending them out to all the card carrying "so called" Republicans.. :rofl
-
Oddly the counter is still working. I figured it woulda dun busted past twenty thousand.
-
Added bonuses of Afghanistan.. houses are dirt cheap and some come with built in skylights. The country is also much closer to Israel, so sending what little tax money you might pay that way takes much less time. It's also much closer to Iraq and Iran, making it much easier to start new wars.
-
Nice rant Crockett.
Not all republicans are religious, however. In fact, I'd argue that millions of republicans are only republicans because they don't want to vote Democrat.
Not because they need to shoot their guns off into the air and praise god while they do it, but because they want to keep as many of their hard earned dollars as they can.
It's a choice of lesser evils for many of us, with no party providing a perfect fit for our beliefs.

Yea but that's the point I'm making with "so called" Republicans, because the current crop so called Republicans are nothing close to what Republicans were. Every since Regan the Republicans have spent more of your tax money than the Democrats have. The only "real" difference is where the money was spent. Democrats tend to spend it on social programs while Republicans spend it by giving contracts to big business or waging wars.
One can easily argue that Bush has spent far more of your tax dollars that Clinton the evil liberal. The only real difference is, with Clinton the money spent was paid for with tax dollars on a balanced budget by the end of his term. Under Bush it's paid for by Chinese and Saudi loans. So while you might get a "little" tax break now.. Meanwhile you, your kids and your grandchildren will be paying it for a long time to come.
So why on Earth would you vote for that when even in your heart you have to know the tax cuts are fake. No one gives you a credit card that you pay no interest on and that you are never expected to pay back. At this point with the amount bowwowed by this Bush admin we are like that low income family just paying the interest on all their credit cards. This is what Bush and co have done to this county.
All the current credit and oil problems are because two Republican senators pushed a bill through and put it on a rider of a 11 thousand page bill that Clinton signed. Which deregulated the commodities and loan markets. So yes it was Bill Clinton whom signed it, but it was Republicans whom snuck it into as bill they knew he would sign (yet another reason to not allow riders). Now 9 years later we are in this mess because of "less" govt control the thing Republicans always claim they want.
Meanwhile your tax dollars are used to bail out the banks and you now pay for higher fuel prices because of unregulated trading in the commodities market. So in the long run did those "so called" Republicans with their less taxes and less govt regulations really save you any money?
Oh and before someone starts whining about liberals wont let us Drill for oil.. Maybe you guys should look up who stopped the drilling for new oil in the United States.. I'll help you.. his name was George Bush Sr.

You know crockett speaking out against slavery isn't necessarily hate. Wanting to free someone from their irresponsibilty and thus liberate them from dependence on politicians isn't even all that selfish though it will benefit everyone around, well, except the politicians that would have everyone believe wealth must be redistributed by them.

What politition do you think is going to do that? You guys always talk about liberal living in a dream world.. lol but you righties need to wake up because your living in a dream if you think the current crop of Republicans is doing anything any diffrent. The only diffrence between the two parties is who gets the money and who pays for it.
-
Crockett,
I won't argue with you that the repubs of today are making a mockery of the party. The tax issues, in my view, are pale by comparison to the civil intrusions they have authorized, the religious fanaticism they have cultivated, and the idiotic limitations on personal freedoms they have justified.
However, given the traditional attitude of the party, it is one's hope that at some point the old ways will prevail over this new age conservatism. My position is pretty simplistic. I do not want to be punished for earning more, for being a business owner, for perhaps one day being in a position to inherit an estate. Many would feel ashamed that their political beliefs are reduced to these fiscal components but that's the way it is, and that's what I base my choice on.
On a lesser note I think that political correctness is a damaging force to this country, that the blind socialization of healthcare is dangerous, and that affirmative action needs to be re-examined.
The result is that given the choice, I'd rather take my chance on a man that just might do as the old repubs did, rather than on a man that will definitely steer away from my interests and the interests of my family.
Again, for me, and for millions of others, there is no real candidate running. When this is the case, I must choose the one that has a greater chance of doing what suits me.
-

Just about all of 'em but especially the democrats who pander to the poor and minorities promising wealth redistribution in exchange for votes. If you think this isn't exactly how it is you aren't looking or you just can't see.

The problem is they aren't changing they are getting worse. Each of the last three Republican presidents has been worse than the last and went further off track. McCain will continue down that same path because he's damn sure not planing on changing anything.
In a fairlyland, would I rather have less govt regulation and pay less taxes? Why of course.. However looking at things like the current housing and loans issues and the oil markets I can see that govt has to regulate these things. We would likely not be in this mess if they hadn't been deregulated. The simple problem is there are a lot of people out there that don't give a crap about anything but making money anyway they can. So the govt has to regulate that stuff to stop them from taking advantage in a "so called" free market.
If republican were what they used to be then maybe I'd vote Republican. They aren't and it's a simple choice at that point because both parties are essentially the same.
Democrats spend more money on social programs and give less to big business.. (ie helping the average Joe)
Republicans spend more money on big business and give less to social programs.. (ie helping the 10%ers)
Well I'm not afraid to admit I'm not a 10%er I'm just a average Joe..so it's easy to see who is better to vote for. It's very simple and clear to me. I know my money will be spent reguardless of who is in office no matter if it's a Democrat or a Republian so the only choice is who gets my money. That's the sad truth.
Sorry call me a liberal, but I'd rather see some single mom or someone's gandmother get my tax dollars vs some Wall St CEO...

Do you have something against Habitat for Humanity?
and I ain't even fishing!!!! (looks around for the long needle nosed) man this hook is deep.
-
Crockett, you can call yourself a liberal if you want. I understand your views and needs and don't have a problem with it at all. I won't try to convince you that my view is correct--either for your needs specifically, or in general. My view is correct for my needs, and that is enough.
Personally, I'd rather not be called a Conservative because I simply don't agree with many of their aforementioned social platforms, but if it's easier for you to call me one, I won't stop you either.
My biggest issue with this whole thing is how committed people become to their own brand of propaganda. I rail against Dems myself, but I try to keep the shortcomings of both approaches in mind. The majority of the time, it seems, people just square off as if on a battlefield, ready to say and do the oddest things just to make their own position seem justified, and the opposite position indefensible.

I think it's absolutely hilarious when the example of Viet Nam is used to blame republicans. Don't the folks who do that have a single clue who sent troops to Viet Nam? JFK was first but the war was started and run, poorly for the majority of the time we were there, by LBJ. Those two were not republicans BTW.
