Title: Texas Politics
Post by: indy007 on June 27, 2008, 09:35:44 AM
Wow... just wow... The glory that is the Texas legislature...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG6X-xtVask (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eG6X-xtVask)

After you watch it, keep in a mind a few things... these people only actually work 3 months every 2 years.

On top of that, Texas isn't doing bad. Economy is growing, 40% of the jobs in the US last year were created here.
We're not seeing the mortgage "crisis" many other states are.
Our gas is cheaper than everybody else's.
The trans-texas corridor land grab was shot down.
Legal battles are being fought, and won by the people, over the recent property tax & mandatory insurance scams.

So if we can manage that, with this group in charge... how bad must other state's politicians be?  :huh

Integrity is the bedrock upon which character is built. We all know what happened to the man who built his house upon the sand.

Yet more proof that these people think and act as though they are above the law...

We're not seeing the mortgage "crisis" many other states are.
Our gas is cheaper than everybody else's.
At one point the DFW area led the nation in foreclosures. Gas might be cheaper in Houston, but in North Texas it's running around the national average. Not trying to rain on your parade, but those numbers are wrong.

I agree the Lege is messed up, always has been. Austin is filled with hypocrites, bottom to top.

Am i the only one who has been thinking its about time for the next American revolution? Not to change the form of Gov. but to simply "replace" everybody in it.

One of the things I'll do when I lead the revolution is mandate that anyone who holds or has ever held a government job, at ANY level, is expressly forbidden from working for the government ever again.

A good reason to do this would be to purge all the messed up people who have diddlyed up our government.

However, the main reason would be to laugh hysterically as all those government employees flounder and squirm trying to work a real job that expects results.

There is an opportunity to do that with each election.

what sort of treatment are you planning to give small business owners? Just asking because I need to know now which side of the revolution I should be on.

Hmmm, I'm off topic I think but... This story (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=alUJZgGm4GUI) paints a different picture of the Texas economy.

Quote
A rising peso and an economy growing faster than the U.S. have given some Mexicans the buying power to take advantage of the housing slump in Texas...

Quote
While Texas hasn't been hit as hard as California and Florida, where the housing boom drove up prices the most, existing home sales in Texas fell 12 percent from a year ago in the first quarter.

Foreclosures in Texas rose 29 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier, with one of every 274 households in the foreclosure process, according to RealtyTrac Inc., a seller of default data based in Irvine, California. The Texas foreclosure rate ranked 17th in the nation, according to RealtyTrac.

Ya'll do realize that legislators can read and research bills before the session, right? And that their specific individual votes are a matter of record?

Yeah its poor form but I see no reason to assume that the legislators who weren't present hadn't arranged for someone to vote for them, and that its possible for the group to all work well enough together that they're comfortable doing this. They're all certainly answerable to their constituencies for their voting record, and therefore have a reason to see to it its accurate with their intent.

Sorry, don't buy it.

If they cant take the time to hang around for the the vote it should be recorded as a no vote.

It reminds me of punching out your buddy, witch in this day and age will get you both fired.

If you watched the video closely, you'll see many times Reps are racing to get to others before someone else does.  They look like little kids playing Musical Chairs!  Voting like this is occurring across party lines?  Yeah right.

1. Look at the amount of Reps not there doing their jobs.

2. If a House member is not there, it should be recorded as a NO.

3.  The biggest factor.....It's Against the Houses own RULES!

Sorry...there is no excuse. :furious  They need to do their jobs or get out.

No, sorry, I disagree with # 2 in your line...  it should rad that they DID NOT VOTE!

simple solution;
a car ignition type of switch to turn on the desk's voting buttons, keyed to the legislator's personal house key.

how many of them would trust another with their own house key?

maybe it would force those clowns to actually earn the money they are stealing via taxes. maybe not. <shrugs>

just an idea.

feel free to push it on them.  :)

No, but I do keep tabs on his voting record. Think about that a minute.
