Just thought I'd ask.
Lately it depends on "Who" you are "When" you say it. Some rules are are bent beyond belief, yet a simple infraction is met with a swift stick.
Can I become a Moderator?

Talk to HT. I did it for 5 years in this game's grand daddy....I want no part of it here. I do know that monitors here (unlike AOHell and Gamestorm) are not paid and are not scheduled. This would explain the "When". As for the "Who", a simple call or email to Skuzzy can clear any abuse up (he just loves it when I send crap his way :D).

It just burns my backside a bit.

What I can't figure out is why they should need Mods at all. You'd think that folks could think before they typed. It just can't be that hard to use a little common sense.
I don't recall ever having to deal with a Mod either in AW or here and that's a lot of years now. I'd love to believe that somehow I'm above and beyond the capability of the crowd, but we all know that's not true, so if a simpleton like me can manage to avoid the mods, you'd think some of the above and beyond types could handle it too :)

Things have been much better since that realization. I do not get muted, warnings, or anything else for that matter, I just fly my cartoon airplane. If I am mad because I did something stupid and died, got picked, or gangbanged, I just remove my hands from the keyboard, and hop into another cartoon airplane without saying a word.

In my opinion the moderators are only doing their job 1/2 way.
The term "moderator" is derived from "moderate" which is basically "medium", or "in the middle", etc... Not hot, not cold, but "moderate"...
So moderators should be keeping things "in the middle". They should be taming down the "top end" stuff, but should also be getting folks who type too politely and too calmly to jazz it up a bit.
Otherwise they're probably more "tamer-downers" than true "moderators".

Moderators abuse their power beyond belief. We should be allowed to say anything we want ( barring racial, deflamatory, etc, remarks) for the $15 we pay per month. I hardly think saying "crap" over 200 merits an hour warning.
I would like to give that moderator a piece of my mind. He is a complete twit, utter moron, and he hides behind the anonymity of the moderator position. Get a life, and stop ruining people's fun for such a trivial thing. TURD.

Earlier last week, I was chasin around a 152 and I said outloud on 200 "STUPID 152 PR**K!!" and I got a warning.
So, I was like oops.... and I said "okay, okay then, stupid 152 NOOB!" and I got a "this is your last warning" So I'm saying out loud on 200 "wtf? is it Stupid? Noob?" and I got a PM from Skuzzy himself saying "you'd better start to calm down now" :rofl :rofl :rofl
But Skuzzy did show a good example for the other mods though, if a Mod had decided to take action, he woulda muted me.
p.s. can mods give out warnings?

Moderators do a thankless job based upon a subjective evaluation of others behavior using tools that are imperfect at best.
Since the alternative to moderators is a cesspool where a certain (relatively small but significant) percentage of players would be competing to see who could out-obscene everyone else to the point where a much larger and much more significant portion of the player base would find playing distasteful, bothersome and unenjoyable, I'd argue that they do a pretty good job and we should grant them room to be human and therefore imperfect, and thank them for the efforts any way.
Oh, and trying to stay out of their sights as much as possible wouldn't hurt - I'm sure that if you've come to their attention a few times before you're much less likely to be given the benefit of the doubt when what you say/type could be taken more than one way.

text filter issues? you think you have it rough here........these are the posted rules about text filter issues at another board I post on:
Bypassing The Censor: Members are prohibited from attempting to bypass the built-in sensor mechanism that automatically replaces profanity and other banned words & phrases with a series of asterisks. Bypassing is any action to thwart the intended function of the censor, such as attempting to divulge the actual censored word or words by means of using other spellings, symbols, rhymes, or any facsimiles thereof.
here's some more:
Bi-Posting: Members are prohibited from using or registering more than one username. Multiple user names (Bi-Posting-ghosting-cloning) is not permitted. Members who continue to Bi-Post do so fully at their own risk, as we periodically sweep our registered user lists with software designed to delete such multiple accounts, and this software does not differentiate between primary and secondary usernames. Once a username is deleted/banned by our sweep software, it is absolutely unrecoverable.
they have another unwritten rule that would get most of you banned in this thread.........it's called "Grandstanding"...which is openly complaining about the Mods. if you want to do that...you have to send them a private PM.

If the attitude and intent of your post is anything similar to the text/vox you contribute to the game, I can easily see how you might provoke the response you got from a mod. I highly doubt the single word "crap" triggered an hour long mute.

Ghastly: hmmm.....yeah. I did not say that...and I did not edit that. is the word automatically censored? or was that done manually? well...it's an acceptable word on network tv....but not here...and I will respect that. this is a private board, and they are allowed to set any rules that they want.
I just sent a pm to a person in red on the list who was called an admin...but the pm did not get though.
I think I need link to a list of words that are not permissible. I can understand the profanity thing, the racist thing, and the whacked out melt-down tirades here...afterall....there are children using and reading this board....but if "hoot" is not allowed...I sure would like to see what else is not allowed.
I was a mod on a pro sports team's official board for a few years....and I can tell you.....it ain't easy and nobody understands what goes on under the layer of the board until you actually do that thankless job.......so I can sympathize.

My favorite moderator thing is i have been in mid war and said on country channel im brining such and such a plane to somewhere and a moderator that's on the other country ends up already their waiting for me ..they read all text and play the game,tell me they dont use that as an advantage

Two tours ago I was spending most of my time in EW arena. Got constantly accused of being "HTC staff" because I always "conspiciously logged on when they were trying to capture a (undefended) base" or "no way you could find me here".
Reading the map and anticipating the next steps of the milkman is no rocket science.

well...in the big picture...considering all the work they do....and trust me...it is alot of work...they most likely get the game for free...I think it's a good trade. when I was a mod on that sports board....I ran 12 other mods...and when we were on as Mods....I took their ability away to post under their normal user names.

I was muted for 60 minutes yesterday for saying "crap" on 200. 2 others in my squad did also. If that isn't abuse of power i don't know what is.
Oh ya, and one other thing. The other day i was flying around TT and I saw an f4u around 5k. So I typed on range "f4u 5k" and I got muted for 10 minutes by the text filter. Try it, you will see what I mean. Must be a bug.

I don't know anything about AH, but if it were my sim, I'd specifically prohibit mods from sending PM's as Skuzzy did. Part of the agreement to mod is typically an understanding between both parties that the identities of the mod's to be kept confidential. Skuzzy on the other hand has no need to keep his identity a secret.

I don't have film of when I got muted, because I had no clue that I was gunna get muted for saying it! I didn't think of taking a screenshot at the time because I was so flipping mad that I got muted for 60 minutes for saying crap I wasn't thinking straight. I did record the part after I got muted and I said something about it. and yes, thats all I said, "crap", nothing else. I was fighting, I augered and I said "crap" on 200. Then 10 seconds later "You have been muted for 60 minutes". Thats it. There is no reason to make this up.

You are apparently under the misconception that there are live mods on 24/7. It ain't so. It has been stated numerous times that the moderators are a selected group of people that HT trusts to moderate HIS game the way HE wants it moderated. Not the way you want it...or the way I want it (believe me...I've tried to influence him :D). The mods here don't work on a "schedule". So, there will be times when there are no mods on.
BTW, the excuse "...there are FAR worse things said on 200 other than "crap".", is a "sqeaker excuse". It's like, "But Mommy...the other kids did it!!!".

Actually, you might say that another way....you are failing to make your point. You have stated that a mod popped you for saying "crap", then popped 2 of your friends. THEN, you come back and say...maybe it wasn't exactly that word....but, it was still unfair!! Can you see how some folks might have problems with your veracity? I sure can!!

Sounds to me like this is your opinion as you are not substantiating your unqualified statement by demonstrating the alleged abuse as it applies to official moderator quidlines. Either way I believe the avenue for addressing this matter would be in forum rule 9, reporting the matter to Skuzzy via email, and so, by helping you with this I am probably breaking rule 6. Probably be joining you on probation now. :rolleyes:
Honestly, I am glad to see moderators at work, I salute them, even if at some point in the future I get pegged by them. Keep up the good work mods. :salute

I'll bet it was more of a cumulative effect, and the "crap" was the straw that broke the camels back. If you spent 15-20 minutes with your squadies talking trash, and generally being obnoxious over 200 I can see where a mod would get to the "enough is enough" point and mute you. The idea is its suppose to be fun for everyone, and if your spoiling the fun for some they will mute you. The example above where skuzzy PMed the guy is what I'm talking about. They guy was getting out of hand and skuzzy got him to settle down. Mods might not be able to handle things the same way skuzzy can, so they use the tools they do have.
As a side note, I've been flying since tour 22 and have never been warned, let alone muted. Police yourselves and you never will have to worry about a mod!

Elite in the fact that you, and a select few others, are doing nothing but whining about how "the man" is abusing his power when it is, in fact, your own fault. Your language, by your own admission, had gotten you muted. It was not done by others. It was your action and not the action of any other that put you in that situation.

As the Fugitive has wisely stated, you had probably, by that point, garnered the attention of the moderator through a cumulative series of abusive or inappropriate statements which had ultimately led to the revocation of your communication privileges.
By your own admission of guilt, and lack of any hard evidence (which others have given advice on how to produce) such as film or screenshots, you have essentially deprived yourself of any and all defense. In essence, your posts have descended to a base level of a whining rant about how you are being wrongly prosecuted for no apparent reason.
You have two distinct paths that you can take. You can grow a pair, man up, and take responsibility for your own actions which will increase your perceived level of maturity or you can petition HiTech for solid evidence of what actually transpired so that you may vindicate yourself.
At this point, anything less comes across as a whiny rant, somewhat akin to that of a spoiled child who should probably delve deeper into the mechanics of the English language and methods of self discipline rather than spend his time on a computer game.
