Figured I'd start a new topic for this, after the wish/complaint thread about hangars being shut down in the DA:
I'd like to be able to receive "Target Destroyed" messages in the Training Arena when working with ordinance.
As it is, you get the LCOS when your ordinance is armed but some attack angles still put this below your plane where you can't see it, so you're still left with "feeling" where your bombs are going to land. You can look for craters but that doesn't necessarily tell you if your hits were still near enough to inflict damage, as in the Mains I've had bombs go short but the "splash" was still sufficient to take down a hangar or other object.
This really leaves the DA "bombing range" and Mains for "live fire" practice, which have their own problems (predominantly in the possibility of enemy aircraft getting in the way).
So what I'd like to see is a "target destroyed" message in the Training Arena when you've delivered sufficient ordinance or fire to destroy a ground object, whether by ordinance or guns, based on the "arena standard."

I like this idea. A way to implement may be to have the rebuild time set to almost 0. You could get the destruction message with virtually no real down time. Thinking this would be possible with the arena settings.

I agree with hammer. Put the down time to 5 seconds maybe just so they dont hit the same target like 10 times with one bomb drop.

I'd like that too. I have noticed, that on the offline practice I have the TA map. The ground targets are destructable there. And it tells you what has been destroyed.

Those are set by the arena settings, yep.

Well it would take a fair amount of work, but in theory at least it is possible.
Meantime offline works great for that kind of bombing practice, or a quiet corner in the DA

I love this idea. I have often wondered why this doesn't already exist. The Target Destroyed Message is instant positive feedback for the people trying to learn using ords, both dive bombing and level bombing. :aok

Best solution IMO -- destructible objects, but very short downtime. I know the downtimes can be adjusted in the AvA, so I would think it would be doable.

Well it seems that the idea was implemented. You kill an enemy building and it pops about a minute later. I like it.

They must have put it back I just checked and it was just like before you see an explosion but no message. :frown:

That's correct. Enemy buildings are now destroyable, and the amount of ordnance it takes to destroy objects are matched up to MA standards. Friendly objects are still protected (also an MA standard).

How would CV's work?
I have yet to visit the TA and try it, but I'm curious about CV sinking as well.

Thanks Murdr. Eventually I'd like to train any interested squaddies (and whoever else) on how to properly level-bomb a CV.
