That sucks. But with a world economy and publicly owned companies, it will happen.
-
No affect to my consumption of all things Shiner.
i.e., couldn't care less.
-
I like Tyskie and Zywiec anyways. If offered a Bud, I WILL NOT turn it down.
-
Was never a bud man myself... that's not to say that i haven't enjoyed a few on a golf course or two... but when buying beer it was never a first choice.
-
Could this be globalization coming back to us?

:aok
I must say I do enjoy a Bud Light.

I gotta admit it saddens me to see A-B sold to a foreign company. On the other hand, have you tried Stella Artois? :rock
-
 Damn them!
-
Stella Artois is rubbish.
Much prefer Carlsberg Export or Kronenburg if in a normal pub looking for lager. If I can get it, I drink Staropramen. If it's cold day I'll drink Black Sheep beer.
-
Ugh. This has the potential to be yet another blow to St. Louis. A-B was one of the few home-grown companies left that was still locally owned.
If I see a sign go up for "InBev Stadium" then the toejam's REALLY gonna hit the fan.

Stella Artois is a pretty basic clean beer. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing spectacular either. However since it is perceived as a foreign or high class beer, sweetheartbags flock to it like Rosie O'Donnel to ice cream. Just take the latest commercials for it. Specifically catered for bags of the sweetheart variety.
-
I thought Stella was a nice beer to drink occasionally before everyone started drinking it. Now it doesn't even come into my house unless a friend brings it.
As for the A-B deal; oh well it was going to happen sooner or later. According to the news I read this morning they are not going to shut down anything in the North American market since they did not acquire any of the brewery's in the deal.

There is a reason Why Budwhizzer has horses pulling the wagons.

When some foreign company buys out McDonald's or Wal-Mart is when the worrying should start. For these are our most beloved American institutions.
-
they are just going to add some paint, carpet, landscaping and flip it for a big profit.

Stella Artois is not clean. It's full of chemicals and is as nasty as they come. It's called 'wife-beater' over here for a reason - it sends people bonkers.
I have a Belgian colleague who rolls his eyes at its mere mention. I've tried some of his recommendations and they are infinitely better, as you might expect.
-
Well Dowding don't hold back on the good Belgian beer recommendations! I have been searching for one to add to the list after Hoegaarden.
-
who cares.........I drink Landshark beer........ oh hell........they distribute landshark
wait............does this mean they own Busch Gardens too?
-
No worries. I like Duvel - it is powerful stuff, might be your thing at 9%. The Chimay beers are quite interesting - brewed by monks. :) I've personally only tried the Bleue (there a couple of others).
-
The sell-out suxxor.
ROX

okkk...no link there......wtf....who's buying them?

In fairness Dowding, most our American cousins won't drink 18 pints of it between 5.31pm and 11pm on a Friday evening and not many of them consider a dodgy kebab and a fight in the taxi queue a fine end to the evening.

I would :rock :aok
They have been spamming stella artois ads on BBC Amiland for the past few months. Hell they cant make Budweiser any worse.

You obviously have not tried Bud Select. :(
-
I would :rock :aok
Yeah, but you drive a Golf GTi - that makes you an honorary chav. Do you happen to own any clothing by Burberry per chance? :D

There was a link and commentary, but a certain you-know-what deleted it anyway

Chav. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl I use this term often. Quick, concise, to the point and sends the recipient here in the US wondering "what the hell is a chav?" The dumbfounded look is priceless.

I, also could care less. When good beer is not to be found........................
Control your OWN beer destiny, support your local homebrewer. :aok

News Flash: Large American beer companies have only sold beer because of effective advertisement, NOT because of flavor.
Bud and Miller have ALWAYS sucked in taste (along with Pabst, Coors, Schmidt, Old Milwaukee, "Shiner Bock", and all the other big company names)
Advice: Drink a microbrew and expand your horizons. Become a microbrew snob, or better yet, brew it yourself. Stop being a mind monkey for effective advertisement for a beer that tastes like crap.

Just thinking about Flemish beer makes my head hurt....late nights in Antwerp. Good stuff though!

The man speaketh wisely. I can help anyone that wishes to convert.
I can brew much better than I can fly. :devil
Commercial breweries make your "lite" urine by omitting the very ingredients that make beer, namely barley (or wheat, rye, etc). They then proceed to substitute it with corn, rice, or beet sugars to "boost" the alcohol level back to what it would've been if they hadn't taken these grains out. Corn, rice, or other adjuncts add fermentability to the wort (yet un-fermented beer, before yeast has been pitched) without contributing any noticeable flavor or body to the beer.
Marketed to the unwary consumer as "lite" beer, it's just another way that the beer company can stretch a buck (adjuncts are usually cheaper than grains). Also some beer companies are now cheating by using hop oils <gasp> due to the hop shortage http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/14/AR2007081400093.html (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/14/AR2007081400093.html)
To put it simply, the average beer drinker is being robbed of the natural taste and goodness that beer was originally intended to contain.
Just water............
Grain.....................
Hops....................
Boil it ...................
add Yeast....................
and voila, 2-4 weeks (for a simple recipe)............ beer, the way it was meant to be. :aok

Wooley makes a fair point :aok
Stella is nasty in whatever quantity it is consumed, from personal experience.

I don't care. Maybe they will finally make some good beer. :rofl :rofl

Did Chrysler make a better car when taken over by Mercedes?
Don't hold your breath! :rofl
I'll use this as an example:
You begin by making crap. You market it. People start settling for crap, and its taste. Then you change the formula after about 50 years. You might have even changed the formula so that the crap tastes better, but people complain! "Don't change my crap" they chant. Hello new Coca Cola!
