Stella Artois is a pretty basic clean beer.

Stella Artois is not clean. It's full of chemicals and is as nasty as they come. It's called 'wife-beater' over here for a reason - it sends people bonkers.

I have a Belgian colleague who rolls his eyes at its mere mention. I've tried some of his recommendations and they are infinitely better, as you might expect.

No worries. I like Duvel - it is powerful stuff, might be your thing at 9%. The Chimay beers are quite interesting - brewed by monks. :) I've personally only tried the Bleue (there a couple of others).

In fairness Dowding, most our American cousins won't drink 18 pints of it between 5.31pm and 11pm on a Friday evening and not many of them consider a dodgy kebab and a fight in the taxi queue a fine end to the evening.

Chav.    :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl   I use this term often.   Quick, concise, to the point and sends the recipient here in the US wondering "what the hell is a chav?"   The dumbfounded look is priceless.
