Ok, I'll ask.
Why?
-
ever spent 8 years in a sandbox diablo?
-
one of the benefits of this particular layover seems to be that all of the women walking by so far have been smokin.
:aok

My condolences.
There are more than enough mental health care facilities now. Seek one.

Dude, you will have to come up for the EAA air show Aug 2. it is awesome, and to where I am a 2 hour drive from Chicago, and then 90 miles north of me.
PM me some contact info once you have it and are settled bro.

Good move, relocating in the summer time when the climate is deceptively pleasant. Come the dead of winter, you may be wishing for your sand box again.
Seriously though, good luck. This will likely take your photography in a whole new direction.
-
BTW not only did chicago close (thankfully) but Gary IN. changed it's name to ghey, IN. Just thought you'd like to know. Enjoy the move and watch your back, the residents will be doing so........

One big advantage of your new digs is that SheGotYa organizes Chicagoland AH get-togethers.

It's called Galveston Island.
-
I hope you have many jumpers.
Michigan is similar to England, incidents of sunshine are few and far between and may actually be unsubstantiated rumours of sunshine.
-
It's called Galveston Island.
uh. is that a fancy word for stripper island?
p.s. - ya'll are about as helpful as roomfull of o'clubbers...oh...wait.
:D

lots of good recipe swapping, the usual inane debates over the same topics, other than those you haven't missed much 88.
-
Wow :aok Most cool to be able to pick up & move to live somewhere else anytime. If you find any good 'Bessie Coleman' sites up there, I'd be interested in hearing about those. :aok
-
thanks tm. i'll keep my eyes open.
:D
very excited to be here.

Chi town :aok
Be sure to schedule a weekend at the museum and you can easily eat yourself into a coma at many of the fine restaurants there.
-
hitting the art museum tomorrow and the science and industry museum next week!!!!
:rock :rock :rock
about to go touring around the city on the L for a bit.
(with camera of course)
hope i don't get lost.
i have been advised to not travel south to much.
-
south = bad the further north you go the more umm.. suburb-ish it gets, when you reach Schaumburg you have peaked and it gets rural from there.
-
I saw that nice photo earlier, 88, but didn't understand the caption which went along with it. Now I get it. :)
-
If you like trains, the Illinois Railway museum is a cool place to visit.
There may be some interesting photographs lurking there as well. :aok

Take the L train south to 22nd Street (Cermak Rd) - walk 2 blocks west - Chinatown - great eats
or south to 35th - walk 2 blocks west - Sox park
or south to 95th street - walk 2 blocks west--then turn your donut around and run 2 blocks back east :)

Don't let 'em scare you 88. There's only a few small pockets of unsavory neighborhoods south of Madison. Just avoid everything East of the Ryan, most everything between the Ryan and Cicero from North Av. to 95th. South of 95th, stay west of Western. You'll do fine.
Problem is if you want the best pizza in the city you'll need to get to Crestwood. The best BBQ's also south. And of course if you golf, you should check out the Palos courses.
Oh and there's only 2 or 3 places for respectable seafood. Trust me, don't waste your time.
And don't let those "beaches" fool you. They look normal but they're not. Water's cold and the sand's like pea gravel.
But it is festival season and the mid-west really wakes up during the summer. The weather's perfect (or close) for being outside all day.
Oh yeah, buy the heaviest coat you can afford.....now.
-
Don't forget the engine warmer and snow tires.
-
ahhhh...no car. left that in florida.
:aok
i've heard about the coat purchase tho...better get on that quick huh?
brrrrrrrrrrr...
(grew up in the plains so i'm not too scared, but i'm not exactly looking forward to it either)
-

Looks like you are very close to China Town, if not in it.
Welcome to Chicago.
-
"better get on that quick huh?"
It's a good time to get a good deal. If you follow fashion or have other priorities, wait till the new lines hit. If your not driving I'd suggest you gear up before you realize you need it.

Taylor street for the best food in Chicago. (Italian)

It may be understood, but the Pizza's amazing. I loved the original Pizzeria Uno. Just to give you a reference, about two slices of Pizzeria Uno's original deep dish is larger than the entire Chicago Classic purchaseable at any franchise.
I've yet to have pizza that topped it (though I still have to try the recipe posted here).
-
Looks like he's right around Taylor/Ashland or real close. Too bad Como's closed. Another victim of the R/E "boom". I wonder if The Italian Village is still open.
-
I think the last time I ate in Chicago it was at Tufano's... dayum! Try the pork chops.
