Although I have never played war birds(or maybe its air warrior but whichever one that hitech made before aces high) I have heard a lot about it from the many people here who used to play it. One of the things was the unrealistic and the realistic arenas with the realistic one having some more realistic things in it that the other one didnt. My idea is to make a realistic arena for those people who want things such as weather and night and other ideas that many want but more than likely wont get in the MA. I do not think that it would be a good idea to make a realistic EW MW and LW arena though because this will likely have less numbers and that could make the arenas unplayable due to lack of people. These arenas also will likely be close to dead in off prime time.
so what do u guys think?

it was called wings, or something like that

There are more realistic type fights in the special events arena. Snapshots, scenarios, and FSO give alittle more realistic feel than the MA. Sure you have tried one of them.

Incorrect. Warbirds was the game that HiTech and Pyro created before they created Aces High, Air Warrior was the game they both liked to play.
ack-ack

I loved weather. Also I liked the way they used to handle night. It went all the way dark ...then started the dawn cycle. Sadly it was complained out of existance.
Helm ...out

I love these and try to attend them whenever possible. In fact these are what motivated me to post this.

Umm, it being prime time and there being less than 80 people in all of the Warbirds arenas combined (just checked).....I dont think I'd exactly mimic anything that they are doing. :huh

lol I know its a virtually non existent game now, but have u not seen all of the reguests for realistic things such as night in weather. I think it would give the people that want those a chance to have them without taking things away from the people who don't. Also the old lag issues and stuff people talk about wouldn't matter here because the people with computers that couldn't handle it would be able to simply stay in the MA.

Oh, dont get me wrong. I'd love to see a 24x7 fully automated full realism arena here. I think this sim has more to offer in that regard. But, unfortunately, the lowest common denominator rules the direction of whats available. Accept it and try to find what your looking for somewhere in the game. My 2 cents

If you could explain that lowest common denominator thing I don't think i quite get it. also don't worry im going into 8th grade and i know what it is just not how it is used in this instance.

The minimum operating parameters the game operates in dictate what can and can't be included in the game.

No, actually I meant that furbals , quick ups and fights ,score, stats , 1337ness , are what the vast majority of the player base wants. Its what rules the direction of whats available and the gameplay....in any arena. We've found that the best thing to do is just do your own thing , and ignore the rest.

I've once thought of increasing overall realism, but soon realized that it definately wasn't a majority opinion. I'm not sure just what exactly you are picturing, but I can take a bold guess that what you want would probably be fulfilled if Combat Tour does arrive.. (although it is more and more smelling like vaporware).
Nowadays, I mostly wish for very small, detailed, situational depictions which can greatly increase visual realism and immersion without disrupting any of the gamplay or requiring better PC systems.
For instance, the gear. Most WW2 planes rarely had such perfectly synchronized hydraulic landing gears. Thus, when they take off you will usually observe one landing gear folding in before the other. Now, how difficult would that be in implementing? I'm guessing HTC could probably do it in 10 minutes. However, such useless and trivial detail it might be, and yet that alone increases the immersion rate of the game.
How about screen shaking? I've also suggested this for years. In the old AH1, we didn't have the screen-shakes when firing a gun. This simple effect was added some time before.. why just use it with guns? How about flak? A 88mm flak bursts close to you.. boom!... the plane shakes.. the second burst was even closer one.. BOOOOMM!!!... a bigger shake on the screen... incredibly minor detail and yet, this is bound to excite dedicated buff fans. Or, how about when it is used on ground explosions? You are in a tank, and somewhere nearby, an enemy aircraft drops the bombs.. BOOOOOMMMMMMM!! Wow, what a shake...!
...
I have about a hundred of these small ideas, which does not effect the gameplay whatsoever, and has minimal impact on PC system requirements, and yet, could make AH2 soooooooar in immersion. It's a pity HTC is still too busy doing God knows what, to consider these kinds of small stuff as priorities.

I like the screen shaking idea.
And yes, it is a pity. I've been in this game for about 3 years and the frequency of updates has steadily decreased. This coincides with less and less news about Combat Tour. Who knows what's going on, because the regular game is being updated at an absolute snail's pace, and we hear nothing about what HTC is (presumably) working on instead. The value of this game is, in my opinion, somewhat diminished by the void of its untapped potential.

All good ideas. by the way what i ment was there is a whole different arena with the realistic stuff/

I loved weather.
I remember a while back, they developed a new dynamic weather system for AHII. The first time the arena reset (at 2 AM) after they installed it, it crashed it. Skuzzy forgot to turn off the alarm before he busted into the office, I remember. :D Anyway, I haven't heard anything about it since it was removed due to that issue. Too bad, really.

My experience in Air Warrior III was limited to basically 1998 - 2001ish... But during that time, I always flew on the same darn map (per arena), with the same darn plane set, and the same darn everything.
Just off the top of my head (and obviously missing huge chunks), since I started Aces High in 2004:
- Aces High II came out
- Ki84, B-24, B-25, two new P-38's, a new Corsair, new 109 and Spitfires, P-39, several new ground vehicles, etc.
- Ability to fly offline vs. an AI opponent that will actually shoot back
- Several new maps
- You get the picture.
I think our definitions of "snail's pace" are very different :) I am very pleased :aok
