As of this moment, only US and china are ahead of us. I'm sure it will change but it's a great achievement.
Russia languishes in 9th place. It seems without the satellite states such as the Ukraine etc, Russia is not able to compete.

Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,
Über alles in der Welt,
Wenn es stets zu Schutz und Trutze
Brüderlich zusammenhält.

God save our gracious Queen!
Long live our noble Queen!
God save the Queen!
Hum....hum...victorious!
mumble...mumble...glorious!
mumble..mumble....over us!
God save our Queen!
That's pretty much what most people sing in GBR.
I enjoyed watching the coxless 4, it was a very good race.

Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves I think. We seem to excel at rowing at sailing.

Ready to fight
Ready to kill
Ready to die
But never will!
Long live the Marines!

While UK have won the olympics, Russia just have won a war.

That was a really challenging war, nuh huh.

:lol
Russia attacked a country smaller than Texas. You'd have more trouble invading Hawaii....

Congrats! Not bad for a nation entirely composed of unshaven cab drivers and mail-order brides. :)

They're too busy attacking other countries right now. It's not their fault! :uhoh

Dont forget the cycling.
Them special helmets and clothing make all the difference. Think they have been splashing the cash and getting results.
Looking good for 2012.

While UK have won the olympics, Russia just have won a war.
Hey, we kicked Grenada's ass.

Wait till they make invasion, rape, murder and propaganda olympic events.
Then russia will be golden.

Presently 7:24 am Pacific time, Russia has seven, eleven and twelve medals.
Give three points for gold, 2 S and 1 B, China leads with 144, USA 124
Russia is tied for third with the Aussies (55), GB just 2 points back.

Probably our poor proud Brit posted before women tennis finals and 3rd place games :D
Dementyeva was always my favourite, and she was always stopped in finals, like in Sydney 2000 or Rolland Garros 2004 when she lost to Nastya Myskina. Safina showed miracles playing tree games that last two hours each in a period of 24 hours, but Elena deserved this gold. The final game was awesome, best women tennis I ever saw.

I wonder why everyone was always so excited by peasant girls like Sharapova or Kournikova.

Britain still third. Ranking works on number of golds you have, with the next medal class deciding a tie. Russia are 8th. :aok
BTW, Boroda - you've already posted how crap the Georgian armed forces are. Why are you now making them out to be 300 Spartan heroes? You really are bonkers aren't you?

Unlike British Empire, US or nazi Germany we don't fight with civilians. We destroyed Georgian military and that's all.
How's BBC? Where are Russian troops seen now? On the Moon moving to Mars now escorted by Lunar Police cars? :D
-
8th for a nation of 150 million people. For shame! :cry
Who's next for the Russian bear? The peace-loving pygmies of the Upper Volta? I hear they are armed to the teeth with dried grass and sharpened mango. Should be just the ticket!

Ranking works on whatever makes your country look the best.
If some country has a single athlete that earns a single gold, say Tunisia, and another country, say Kenya has three athletes who earn 2 silver and a bronze, then I would say Kenya is a better olympic team.
-

Really? Then why am I still seeing pics with their tanks, their equipment and planes? They didn't destroy the Georgian Military. Like I said before, you invaded a country smaller than TEXAS and you just about failed at that.
You want a cookie?? You'll still probably have trouble trying to take it from my hands

Well Dowding,
Congratulations.
With the Olympics over now, the Country of Pinset and Redgrave, of the Oxford Cambridge race, and the Royal Henley Regatta have taken the biggest haul.
The Final Medal tally:
Great Britain......2G 2S 2B for 6 Total
Canada ...........1G 1S 2B for 4 Total
Australia ..........2G 1S 0B for 3 Total
United States....1G 1S 1B for 3 Total
-
LOL Holden
As a former competitive rower, I only really find the rowing and the beach volleyball interesting.

"we don't fight with civilians" - lot of afghan kids in the 1980's without arms and legs might disagree :huh

You watch too many Rambo-3.
Explosive toys were delivered from the "free world" and dispensed by "freedom fighters". It's a fact.
Several million Hindus knew pretty well that they got killed for her majesty the queen. Comparing british crimes to what Russians did is just funny.

LOL it's not Dowding, it's someone quoting Margaret Thatcher.
Let's wait until he'll make another quote: "Russian population needs to be reduced to 30 million who will work on supporting oil and gas pipelines".
-
Actually, Dowding may be on to something here. It's gotta be killin him that USA, China, France & GB are just kickin roooooooooooski butt in the medals...
Of course he'll say 'Russians not interested in medals....'
...and I'll put up pictures of all the soviet heads of state at mayday parades with medals plastered all over them ...
..and he'll say 'What Medals?'
:D

Oh - and WTG Team GB. Unfortunately I think it might be downhill from here though.

If we sum up all medals won by former USSR - we'll beat the Chinese.
This is the first Olympics where we don't use Soviet heritage. As for me we are doing unexpectedly good.
As for Brezhnev, there was a joke. Say it in Brezhnev's voice:
"Comrades!... Western press spreads silly rumors that I am hungry for awards. I have to say it's not true. For example: last week I was awarded a greatest, I underline, greatest sign of merit from Papua New Guinea, a Big Goldten Ring in the Nose, and I refused." /*loud applauses turning into ovation*/
-
Well however short lived it might be, it's still good to see. 12th ain't that bad.
BTW Hangtime, medals are bourgeois bawbles and symbols of the yoke of capital ownership.
Boroda - you are not the USSR. You singularly fail to grasp that. By your anachronistic logic, Britain could count all of the US's medals.
-

Former?
I'm planning on racing in Sydney in October 2009. World Masters games.
There must be masters rowing in the UK. I think it's a royal decree.
>>edit I share your sports intrests but I have to add team pursuit track cycling. Team pursuit is like watching a 40 mph ballet.

If you think Soviets dispensed toy-bombs - then your brain is a size of a walnut.
If it's a little bigger, like Homer Simson's, then you may think of why did Russians need this, especially because their main goal was to gain population support, and that they got it.

So your happiness was quite short :D
I am pretty much aware that USSR is no more and we finally don't have to feed all that countries. Your colonies fed YOU and starved themselves.
Olympic medals, 13th place, is the last thing you have left to be proud of. You are now an Upper Volta, an unimportant appendix to your former colony. Only fascists like Maggie you quoted above saved you from starvation, ration cards and a 3-day working week. LOL we collected warm clothes for you back in 1984 and you admitted you actually had no option then to wear them.
-
Wow, the Afghan's were really supportive...lol. Are you new to this planet? :lol
Tell me is it possible for UK soldiers there to leave their bases without permit and return back after good time with locals. No?! What a diddlying surprise! :D

Not a Brit, so I couldn't say, but then again I doubt the Afghan women are afraid of being raped and killed either as in a previous occupation. :rofl
-
Still, i know which army i'd rather be in. A battalion of british soldiers aren't topping themselves annually, unlike other nation's armies.... The UK is involved in 2 medium scale operations and Russia still has higher casualties.
-
Yep....it's guestimated we'll finish 12th overall
I think we already have enough golds to finish higher than 12th.
The best pre games predictions I've seen were from Luciano Barra, who said Britain would finish with 18 gold and in 5th place. So far the British team are 2 up on his predictions, so there's a possibility of 20 or so golds and 4th place.

The only competition worthy of note in Russia anymore is the vodka guzzling championships. :D

Yeah but since they started testing we dont get to see the hairy East German, and Russian man girls anymore. Haha, remember them? The chemical creations?

Based on recent history I wouldn't crow too much about how dirty the Eastern block women were regarding drugs.
-

and to think the 2014 winter olympics will be held in southern Russia... :uhoh

Sochi is the host city.
-
Based on recent history I wouldn't crow too much about how dirty the Eastern block women were regarding drugs.
Of the 80 athletes banned prior to the games, 4 were from the USA, 28 from former eastern bloc, 24 from EU + Turkey.
The EU was epecially hit due to 14 from Greece alone.
China had 10.

Leading in medals for wrestling as usual, and the freestyles are still to come. Have y'all ever made a bad showing in it? Still hoping for submission grappling at the games one day. I want to see something wild like Fedor vs Marcelo Garcia in the open division.
-
I wonder why everyone was always so excited by peasant girls like Sharapova or Kournikova.
Id rather roll over in the morning and look at those 2 who may not have alot than to roll over and look at some rich cow or dog.
-
Maybe Russia stopped doing as well in the Olympics when they stopped executing those who didn't medal?
-
Boroda's probably got a few days' ban or something.
-
Russia easily displaced Britain...
United States
- Gold 29
- Silver 34
- Bronze 32
- Total 95
China
- Gold 46
- Silver 15
- Bronze 22
- Total 83
Russia
- Gold 16
- Silver 16
- Bronze 19
- Total 51
Britain
- Gold 17
- Silver 12
- Bronze 11
- Total 40
-
Easily? Nope - Britain is still third. The rankings are decided by number of gold medals. 17 > 16 :D
I think we will come 4th to be honest. Which was the target for 2012 games, BTW. Team GB have exceeded even their wildest dreams and dominated some of the disciplines like sailing and cycling. And given the size of Russia, we've given them more than a run for their roubles.
-

Regardless....they are both infinitely better looking than Boroda is. :rock

For some reason the US sites are listing the table in order of total medals this time around (it certainly wasn't that way in 2000 when I lived in the US). I wonder why that might be...
-
lol Pei :D
-
Easily? Nope - Britain is still third. The rankings are decided by number of gold medals. 17 > 16 :D
Rankings are based upon whatever makes your team look the best.
If you completely discount the value of silver and bronze medals, then China has the best team, Gold 47, USA 31, UK 18, Russia 17
If you count medals all the same, USA leads China 102 to 89, Russia 3rd at 57, UK 44
If you give points for medals, 3,2,1, USA and China tie presently at 200 points, Russia 109, UK 93
If you give points based on the Formula 1 program(me), it's the same as the 3,2,1 technique.
If you figure points (3,2,1) per million population, the Aussies kick all our tulips at 3.74/Million, Cuba is in 2nd at 2.57, 1.53 to the UK, 0.93 to Canukia, 0.89 to Germany, 0.77 to Russia, a paltry 0.66 to the USA, 0.15 to China.
Aren't statistics wonderful things?

Like I predicted - we finished 4th. WTG Team GB! :D
