It has the best tank town.... Great GV'ing, Great Fights......
AND the HTC staff made it. :D
Who doesn't love NDISLES? :O
-
I love any small map because the hordes are rewarded for fighting each other rather than avoiding each other like the plague. NDIsles is pretty much a perfect map IMHO. The higher player density and the tank town creates a lot of very happy paying customers. The fight between 28 > 7 lasted 24 hours that I saw, see-sawing back and forth. It was the most fun we'd had in many months.

Only had I think 3 incidences where some idiot took one of the GV'ing base. 2 were bish incidences, 1 was rook. Sadly, the Knits were on the recieving time throughout the whole time.. :rofl

It gets high marks for being a small map, but not one of my favorites because of the transient cv battles that always seem to get cut short. Then there's that lull until the next cv fight starts, and you wonder where to go. Maps without water have more consistent fights; I can log off, log back in a couple hours, and find the same fight still going.

I love taking Tank Town. :rofl :aok

Small Maps = More fights = More fun.

So true!
-
Tank Town = T3h l337
But now Rooks are taking all of TT, already took all the GV bases :(
Shame shame... same idiots who always wanna take it too.

i agree its the best map we have.
i know you do Vans,
ive also watched you avoid the furball to vulch, and other such deeds.
your my hero

I don't really agree with that as an absolute. Yes I will agree the small maps tend to allow furballs to last a long time but on the flip side you can almost never find smaller fights. You either fly in the hoard or you pretty much sit in the tower because there are few sustained smaller fights to be had. If you do find one, it wont belong before either 20 green guys are there or 20 red guys.
Personally, I'm not a fan of having 20 green guys and 20 red guys flying all over the place randomly shooting what ever comes in their gun sights. With the larger maps the furballs are fewer and further between, but I can almost always find a small fight that allows for some 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 fighting. The down side is you end up with all the NOE base capture guys and playing whack a mole with them.
To say small maps cause more fighting IMO is wrong.. The smaller maps cause bottle necks and allow furballs that last for hours but they also cause the giant hoards that cause all the gangbangs and cherry picking. So it comes down to what you call fighting. Being part of the hoard or fighting in a more 1 on 1 sense.
It would be nice to see a mix of both.. the big furballs and the ability to find smaller fights on a regular basis.

I have never been in a furball where I did not go in, drag some out or run some enemy down on the periphery away from the maelstrom and get into small engagements. I must have done that 30 times last night alone. You have to work a furball into your favor, with that many willing enemy, you're going to be able to get the kind of fight you want if you put some thought into it.
The people I see who get frustrated in a furball are those that cruise in at a strata inappropriate for the type of fight they are looking for and feel obliged to fight the first con they come across, regardless of the tactical situation, without "setting-up" the fight more to their liking or seeking out bandits more likely to provide "their" fight. Of course even the best laid plans go awry sometimes against human opponents, but that unpredictability is half the charm and allure of this genre.

Small maps tend to get more NOE's imho. With big maps everyone's spread out and you can't get everyone together. On small maps the distances are shorter, but additionally it's a better chance the enemy will get the base because there's less ground to watch.
-
Is it just me or does everyone ask for large maps, praying and saying they will make everything better...Then when they get them they point out their flaws and forget that the small maps had flaws also, and now want them.
You all will never be pleased.

Large maps have more room for NOE'S. More maneuvering space for the group to evade detection, more fields not under attack already, smaller player density makes it harder for defender to mount a defence in time.

I asked for large maps and am happy they are back. The main reason I'm now asking for one MA having the large maps and one having the small ones is simply that I want to make as many players happy as possible ;)

It's to hard to vulch with a P51 i stick to picking on the out skirts of the furball. :aok

The red cons aren't the ones that irritate me so much in a furball, it's the green ones. The red ones I can typically choose to engage them or not and fight them how I want assuming I don't get suckered into their hoard.
The green cons on the other hand I can't do much about. It always seems like as soon as you get a con seprated from his hoard 5 green guys show up trying to gangbang some easy kill. The hoard I don't like is typically the green guys hence the reason I almost always go where ever there is a bigger red dar than green.
Nothing ticks me off more than working hard for a kill and setting up that one perfect shot with a single 30mm tatter, only to have 5 green guys come jumping in with their spit16's and Nik2's spraying everything they have at the con I'm fighting. Hence the reason why you often hear me say on squad vox, that I don't want to fly there because there is too much green.
It's also the reason if I am at a furball I typicaly head right past the green hoard and get out there to the danger zone with the red guys.

Now that I know you fly the 109K-4 your rants make so much more sense to me. ;) Been there many times myself.

I'm going to be really honest with you. I rarely have that problem for some reason. The rare occasions that happens it all seems to even out when a guy I raked with cannon 10 minutes ago gets finished off by someone else as he tries to run back to his base and I get the kill. In a furball situation targets are in infinite supply, if one gets popped, no problem, there's plenty more where he came from.
I'm not sure why we would have different experiences, maybe we kill at different speeds, it's an aim thing or maybe you're not pulling them far enough away, I dunno. But, I also get a lot of isolated engagements clearing friendlies as they are dragging guys away from the furball. Either they die as I am coming in or he has to break. A lot of great 1 vs 2+'s or 2 vs 2+'s begin that way. It's always great fun to clean house clearing a friendly who's leading a parade.

i dont know what you where in that day, but you were vulching just fine.

The age of the small fight is gone in AH. Its hording or nothing. Therefore, any map which forces the hordes to confront each other instead of being able to rampage through hundreds of undefended bases is a good thing.

Nah the Knights (of sadly I am one) took the Rook GV base at one point. Nobody's perfect.

Just a different kind of flying man... I like to get down and do the twisty stuff with the other con. I actually prefer to have a longer drawn out fight rather than trying for the fastest way to kill the con. The problem is you just can't do that type of fighting anywhere close to a furball, because either more green guys will show up or more red guys, but either way it's almost certain your fight will get interrupted.
Flying in a furball is totally different type of fighting than what I prefer to do. You pretty much have to stay fast and you can't really latch onto another con to really fight him. In a furball, you have to kill the con as fast as possible, because he will likely either run back to his side of the hoard, kill another friendly or get killed by someone else if you don't kill him fast.

yea, but that's rook. :lol

Well, you can kill slow if your pull them far enough away or a friendly does it for you and you come clear the cons off him. The trick is to stay very low so your cons aren't visible to higher friends and foes for miles around and keep out of radar ring range of either field. But, yea deliberately taking a long time to kill in a MA with hundreds of people could be a very frustrating endeavor..

Yup, there's not going to be stopping hordes. But, forcing them actually have to fight each other is a great start. Watch people like Kappa, Delirium, Lazer, Steve, etc. they have mastered the art of isolating single cons from the furball maelstrom. I wrote up a guide on how to do this in various ways. But, unlike yesteryear the "good" fights aren't automatic and taken for granted. You actually have to engineer them yourself and with your teammates in a very tactical and deliberate way.
