They resisted 400+ years of Spanish colonialism, 40 years from US, and a Japanese invasion.

The current goverment in Manila doesn't do any good for the Muslim community in Mindanao.

They were around before that term was coined for other things.. :)

Actually that's interesting, because they used to own the .org version of that name. Now I see they either decided to go into the pron biz or someone else got the name from them.

That article only covers one part of the story of course. Its not just about independance. It is true the philippines are full of corruption. What kind of rule do you think these guys would force upon the region of Mindanao? Id bet 30% would be killed outright. These same guys finance raids into tourist areas of the phils. They blow up bombs in the malls. They behead missionaries. Mindanao isnt safe. Make sure if you go there (and the U.S. Embassy will tell you NOT to) meet the provincial General and make sure he grants you a permit for automatic weapons and pay for an escort of armed guards. I recommend you listen to the embassy.
