Joe Biden
-
You mean the guy who plagiarized on an class paper. That seems appropriate.
-
Wow, the democrats do it again and put another northeastern windbag on the presidential ticket. :huh Maybe since it's the VP slot it won't be such a big misstep as Kerry.
-
I don't believe it unless i get a text message.
-
I thought it was going to be Putin.
-
yep
It's Biden.
It's all over the cable news.
-
I like Joe. He's clean and articulate.

We now know option #1.
Anxious to know option #2. McCain needs a smart, young, hard charger with mass appeal as Veep.
Could it be...

Man-crush.

LOL. The guy's been in the Senate for 30 years.... and this is the best you can do? Laughable. Did he pee his bed when he was in Kindergarten too?

Joe Biden
Good pick. Biden covers his weakness on foreign policy. To bad he can't pick another 6 VP's to cover all his other weakness'. (http://smilies.vidahost.com/kao/otn/pnaka.gif)
-
Whoopty frigging dooooo
Another windbag just like Obama. I am sure that McCain will choose some other appropriate DA to be his windbag as well.
just another reason I am voting for the less popular third choice...myself!
-
Darn someone said it was going to be Dick Cheney..
:D
-
obama is going to change things, so he picks a senator who has been in the senate for 36 years, some change.
-
Thank God for a new direction and Change. Biden is a truly fresh face.
Oh, wait. Graduated from Law School in 1969 and elected Senator in 1972. Pretty amazing, that. Five will get you ten he was deferred during VietNam. He's never really had a job in the US economy other than 3 years as a lawyer fresh out of law school. He is the pentulitmate Washington insider.
Voted for Iraq2 but voted against the surge. His positions were so popular he finished 5th in the Iowa Caucuses and dropped out of the race.
He does admire Barack though: "I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy, I mean, that's a storybook, man."
There's Change We Can Believe In.
This is as exciting as McC picking Romney.
-
The osama bin biden thing seems kinda dumb.. why not just give it to teddy kennedy for real "change".

If anyone needed proof that Yomama is a moron, here it is. He picks a well documented plagiarist for a running mate. I remember well when Biden was caught giving a speech that was later proven to have been stolen from a British politician. And don't forget his comment about convenience store workers and accents.
Why is it the dorkocrats have continually nominated such poor choices for president? Pretty much handing the office to Republicans again.
If you put any stock in the "polls", you are ignoring history, and that is a foolish thing to do. I seem to remember the dorkocrats being absolutely sure when they were running that traitor known as Kerry, that they had the presidency in the bag, just no way they could lose to Bush. Didn't quite work out for them now did it? I see a repeat of that this year.
Biden. LOL.
Fools.
-
I think democrats have an all or nothing strategy.. they are like women and are shrill and impatient... sure.. they nominate the most liberal socialist whackjob they can find every time but... if they ever get in.. all the loses will be worth it to em.
It can work... imagine pelosi even being on a ticket 30 years ago. Imagine someone telling you that you couldn't eat fatty foods or that you would lose your drivers license if you didn't wear a seatbelt or wear a helmet when you rode a motorcycle... or.. that you couldn't swim in lakes and rivers if you didn't wear a lifejacket.
when men were men.. these things would have been bad jokes.

we still are, it still is.
I guess Osama be just Biden his time now...

If selecting Snooze Control Biden doesn`t sink the YoBama love ship, then nothing will.
-
Biden is a pretty good, safe choice. He brings experience, age, and leadership to the ticket. Picking another young, relatively untested name would only play into one of McCain's few viable lines of attack. It's now harder for McCain to attack an Obama/Biden ticket as some sort of inexperienced rock-star celebrity pair.
Young, idealistic voters ready for a change are already sold on Obama. McCain has made no effort, and has no prayer, of catching them. Obama needed to pick someone older, experienced, and tested to appeal to more middle-of-the-road voters. Biden's worst negative is his beltway insider and Democratic old-guard status cuts away at Obama's "fresh new change" look, but the change voters are already sold --they aren't voting for McCain anyway.

30 years in the senate.
That's an immediate DQ for me. Anybody with that much experience in the senate has to be considered either crooked or ineffectual.
Yes, from either party.

I'm not disagreeing with your position. I'm extremely cautious about this one...way too long in the bear cave for me as well.
Biden seems to have his feet on the ground though. The guy did take his first oath of office in the hospital at both his injured sons' bedsides just after his wife and daughter were killed when a tractor trailer hit their car. Guy commutes home every single day on freagin AMTRAK, he should almost be "knighted" for that alone.... He hasn't shielded his son from deployment to Iraq (his son is a captain) like some in power have done.

I know theres going to be a chunk of Hillary voters that are PO'd about this.
I think he shot himself him the foot.

It's said that Obama wanted someone who can "challenge" his his thinking.

Fournier's analysis today was dead on. This is a sign of weakness and that Obama is now apparently listening too much to the snivelling little weazels advising him. He should stay on the course he set out on a year ago. Too late now. We're witnessing the self destruction of the Messiah.

Im guessing Biden's strengths lay in places other than Iraq [Biden]said yesterday that he believes top officials in the Bush administration have privately concluded they have lost Iraq and are simply trying to postpone disaster so the next president will “be the guy landing helicopters inside the Green Zone, taking people off the roof,” in a chaotic withdrawal reminiscent of Vietnam.
“I have reached the tentative conclusion that a significant portion of this administration, maybe even including the vice president, believes Iraq is lost,” Biden said. “They have no answer to deal with how badly they have screwed it up. I am not being facetious now. Therefore, the best thing to do is keep it from totally collapsing on your watch and hand it off to the next guy — literally, not figuratively
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/04/AR2007010401525.html?sub=AR
What Biden most often proposed, before success in Iraq became to large to hide anymore--was to slice Iraq up into 3 autonomous 'mini'-countries, something Iraqis universally dislike. I don't want someone with this mindset running our country

Anyone know how the title of the thread got changed without me doing it, and there not being an edit message in my OP?
I mean if Skuzzy did it wouldn't there have been an edit message?

The subject was originally 'Obama's running mate is...' or something like that.
If a message is edited within... I forget how many (I think it's 2-5) minutes after the message is posted there is no edit message under it.

Yeah but I had checked it within the 2 mins after I posted and it was still the same, it was changed well after the first 2min of the post, thats what makes it weird.
And the original title of the post was "Obamas VP is..."

Looks like Skuzzy merged my thread with yours and kept my cooler thread title.
Skuzzy is like a ninja. He leaves no signs he's been there unless he wants you to know he's been there.

Remember Folks,
Osama Bin Biden - er Biden was the guy who actually crafted/wrote the old Clinton Gun ban (aka Crime Bill aka Clinton Assault Weapon Ban).
A vote for those two clowns = a vote against the Constitution.

I wish there was a way to do a poll here. I'd like to know how many Republicans like the fact Obama chose Biden for VP, and how many Democrats like it. I really don't get the choice. As I remember the primary season started with Biden being called racist for his assessment of Obama as being "clean and articulate." As a Republican, I can't think of another person Obama could have chosen that would have made me happier ( other than his hut dwelling brother, George).
How do Democrats feel about the choice? I know in the end the VP won't make a difference, but do you think he could have made a better choice for his campaign? I really don't understand the logic behind his choice, i.e., choosing a person who described Obama unready to be President, voted for the war in Iraq, and said he would run on the same ticket as John McCain, supported the bankruptcy overhaul of 2005 (making it harder to claim bankruptcy, and putting Biden in bed with the credit card companies), a Washington insider, recipient of lobbyist money etc. It seems absurd.
I'm honestly wondering if Obama is as dumb as I say he is
-
Biden was a good pick for Obama, after what happened to John Edwards, Biden is the only person who can sound stupider than Obama

I think it's all part of a vile plot by a renegade sovereign fund to get Pelosi into the white house.

I'm fairly certain that "stupider" isn't actually a word. Merriam-Webster appears to agree.
-
I can't see how this choice is going to benefit the Obama campaign....two liberals on the same ticket. Biden only appears moderate when his record is compared to the man who chose him as his running mate.
With each presidential campaign cycle, the Democratic Party's candidate selection process becomes more radical and incoherent. They'll carry the left coast, or both of them actually, and every demographic group sucking the government teat, and wring their hands in frustration at their inability to make any inroads with the moderate working class.
In addition, the refusal of Obama's campaign to seriously consider kissing and making up with Hillary Clinton is going to bear bitter fruit....with the emphasis on bitter. Some of her supporters will deeply resent the fact that Obama was willing to forgive Biden's derogatory remarks made during the primary debates, but unwilling to do the same for Hillary. The revelation this week that her name was never placed on the list of possible VP candidates will reinforce that resentment, which has been festering since the end of the primary campaign.
Nope....this isn't a good choice....except for the opposing party.
-
On the other hand, Shuckins, Obama's polling numbers seemed to decline the moment he started pandering to the center.
Of course, there's only one poll that counts...
-
Well Sandman, Bill Clinton pandered to the center...and won. Obama's poll numbers may be sliding, but pandering to the center has nothing to do with it. His numbers are sliding because the bloom is off, voters are no longer looking at him through rose colored glasses...and are starting to ask themselves a hard question: Do I really want this man to be the next president?
Before that question can be answered, another must be addressed: Is he really what he says he is, a man who is going to be a different type of candidate? More and more voters are beginning to doubt that he is a genuine voice for "Hope and Change." Rather, he is beginning to be perceived, at least by folks in the center, as just another Party Man, giving lip-service to the notion of bipartisanship.
Regards

Well Sandman, Bill Clinton pandered to the center...and won.
Sixteen years ago. A lot has happened since then. I have my doubts that Clinton's strategy would be effective today.
-
The country hasn't changed THAT much. :D The working class is still the working class, and moderates are still moderates. The only difference between then and now is that the demographic groups sucking up government largesse see a chance in Obama to really clean up. They'll turn out for this election in record numbers.
However, the moderate voters will still have the greatest impact upon the outcome of this election, and two liberals on the same ticket is a great way to alienate many of them.
-
"moderate working class"
is a dying breed, their numbers dwindle every year while the dem numbers grow
if enough stupid youth go to the polls, with the black vote the dumbarsecrats could still pull it off in Nov
if the Republicans were smart, they'd have free all day concerts at all the major liberal cities on voting day :)
