Wow what is this game coming to, I got bashed this morning on 200 when I said ho is for people who cant use acm. Anyone can turn nose to nose to a target, what really takes skill is getting on someones 6 and shooting them down. Im not saying Im good because Im really not but atleast I fight and I know it willmake me better in the long run.
:saluteJunky

what were you thinking junky?
The HO was a valid tactic in WW2 and should be used in AH aswell. :aok
-
They're just made cause they got shot down. :salute
LTARadio
-
Yea i guess it was used in WW2 but I just hate getting killed while I dont have much room and E to avoid the HO.
:salute all those who ho NOT!!! :lol

Anyone got a good site I can load a video up on and I'll show you the best HO in the history of AHII

Bruv was being sarcastic ... don't buy into the "valid tactic" BS that some ignorant clowns will try to foist upon you. A "valid" tactic is one that gives you a reasonable chance at getting a shot on your opponent, without exposing yourself to a gun solution. For the most part, there's nothing "valid" or "tactical" about a HO. I can teach my 2 year olds to HO.
Also, ignore the fools that tell you "It takes two to HO". They're fools. It takes two to merge, only one to make it a HO.

My .02 on this... if you're gonna HO, use a plane that the HO was actually part of the ACM for, p40B/E, a6m, and KI's :aok

I suggest that HTC put up a filter and ban the nauseating amount of HO complaints. I would ban it from the boards and from the text chat within the game.

You probably ho everything you see, Wait you were that n1k that flew past me with guns blazing and didnt hit a thing :devil jk with agree to disagree?
-
It's always the same people in the same aircraft that HO and then complain about the results. <yawn> I saw one of your squaddies ho'ing everything in sight. Doesn't bother me since he doesn't whine about it.

I don't like the HO as I am not very good at it...but the HO is a subconscious act. It's much akin to target fixation....You get drawn into until your experience(time) overcomes the natural urge to get sucked into it. If a person would just listen, HO comes up every 30 seconds. I don't disagree with you one bit.
I guess the act of fixating on an approaching plane is just as natural as it is to complain about. If I am not thinking I get pulled into the HO. And occasionally I can't avoid it as a my usual response is to try a negative G and then I am pilot wounded or lost my rudder from a collision. Hopefully people will grow out of it.

I complained about getting bashed on 200 about it fyi Gav. I am in no way speaking for my sqauddies at all they pay their 15 dollars just like everyone else. But if we "campaign" for not hoing with these posts, maybe we will finally get people turning to our side instead of having a majority of people hoing :aok

Not gonna happen. So long as their are huge disparities in firepower or other aircraft abilities people will HO. For example, I take every HO shot possible against La-7s when I am in the 190F-8 with less energy than the attacker. I figure my chances in a knife-fight against the La-7 are worse than a coin toss with an airplane that is much slower, turns worse, climbs worse, etc., so the HO improves my odds of victory to ~50%. :D

The smartest thing ive heard all day. I agree 100%
-
A HO is actually a nose to nose and there is a plenty of tactics to avoid and reverse. I only HO when I actually have a shot. And that would be considered a snap shop. So anyway. :rock
-

Ok...What's the "rules"? Isn't anything after the first merge fair game? I would say 90% of HO's complained about are not on the first merge
Since the term "fools" is brought up: A reasonable person can't assume a person is going to "play fair" on a first, or second, or..etc merge, because that would be foolish right?
Fool you once, shame on me, but fool you twice shame on you. I say expect it and defend against it, so that the complaints can stop for once and for all.

After 3+ years, I'm starting to love HO threads. In the history of online sims, to paraphrase a famous quote, sort of... "never have so many, complained so much, about so little."
What people who complain about HO'ing are really saying is... "I had a different outcome in mind, with some dazzling ACM turning and burning on my part, and you following the script I want, to your untimely death. How dare you do anything to disrupt MY gameplay!"
It's very nice if two opponents decide to engage in a merge without resorting to the HO, but to expect it and then complain the other guy is "not honorable", or a "no skill dweeb" (which he may be if he's new) is the height of childishness. If you want fairplay and rules, go to the DA. Otherwise, you're in the best available aerial combat sim possible, which includes your opponent doing anything and everything HE decides he wants to do at the time. Your job is to expect the unexpected at all times, and counter whatever he does to beat him.
And, in certain situations, where least time to a kill may be imperative (especially when outnumbered), the HO may be the best thing going. Learn to know when to expect it, like when your opponent is in a 110, or an IL2, or a Niki, a 109G-14 with 20mm gondys, an 190A-8 with 30 & 20mm's, an F4U-C, etc, etc, etc.
My rule of thumb is, anytime you let your plane get in front of my guns expect to get shot at. I might not, cause HO is 50/50 proposition at best (maybe 55/45 if your in a big gun ride and the other guy isn't) and I prefer the odds to be more like 95/5 in my favor if I can work them that way. But sometimes I don't have the time, and sometimes the inclination, to work that hard. I ain't telling you when I will, or when I won't, so be prepared.

...what really takes skill ...
lol the 's' word again.
See my thread 'Ho Avoidance 101.' Its so easy to turn away...

Meh, I avoid 99% of ho attempts, maybe even more... it still doesn't stop the occasional lucky shot that gets your radiator. Gameplay tonight was sneak bases, ho, gang, rinse and repeat.

the bad part is that most are not sure what an Head On (or HO) is.... shoot a guy from the top they call HO.. shoot from the high side...Thats an HO as well to some. Shot some one from their 5 o'clock high and that was an HO.....

They just want an excuse to yell at you

I just find it comical when folks who scream so bloodily about HO'ing are the same folks who can quickly justify it if a "second" red con is within Icon range.
((Not directed at the OP or anyone in this thread directly, just an observation that even some of the most anti-HO folks will do it when "they" feel that it is justified.))

Shoot, I'll HO, I dont care, depends what plane I'm in. If I'm in a spit, I wont HO just to make a good fun fight, Jug... yea. Anything non-maneuverable, I'll HO...
-
yeah i don't have a plm with HO's there are times when it just might be the valid tactic that the situation requires.
i think most HO whines should be directed at those who make it their *only* tactic the majority of the time, but even then YMMV and it's a part of the game.
<shrug>

Mac, that was a naughty setup with the AI :rofl

Let me get this straight...first I tell the guy that HOed me he's a skill less dweeb.
Then he replies negatively <huge shock> so I come into the BBS and whine about it
some more?
We should have a procedure list for this kinda stuff

Same thing goes for picking. I get accused of picking all of the time when I am the only bandit in icon range. One guy even said "we all have our own definition of picking," therefore it's whatever I want it to be.

Can it Top Mensa's 262 vs my Spit 1 in the DA? He lost. :salute

You're simply playing chicken.
It's all fun and games until some one loses an eye.

LOL! I got a PM tonight for shooting a P51 that was dropping bombs on GVs. He claimed I was 'picking.'

I thought it was rather funny to see a load of planes not even try to dodge! :lol I flew in with them for my first mission, then encountered 'The Mighty HO'. Ever since then I fly 1K above them and dive in! lol

The old ho , well at least if I'm being chased down I will try and turn into the enemy especially if I'm in a plane totally inferior to theirs , but I NEVER cry if I get ho'd on , as I have been successful in the old ho mode myself , it goes both ways and besides you can always shuck and jive a bit in the merge. Hoeing happens , it is used by many , and is a tactic taught in fighter schools , I just live with it . its a game and a fun one.
Nutte
