Title: Controller Refresh Button
Post by: SectorNine50 on September 03, 2008, 03:38:50 PM
So, how many of you with laptops (or not) have gone into Aces High to realize that your joystick wasn't hooked up?  So then you realize just plugging it in isn't going to cut it, so you have to exit all the way out of the game, then back in again, pre-load your textures... blah blah blah.

Moral of the story, I want a controller refresh button in the map controllers menu! :pray

This way, you can plug it in mid-game, windows would recognize it, then you press refresh for the game to go and check for it again! :aok

I wasn't sure if you meant "IN" as in, in before the lock...  or like "IN" because you liked the idea...

I did do a search, didn't find anything about refreshing controllers, is there another thread already?

I'd be surprised if that would be possible without a ton of work (if it's even possible at all) because of the fact that DirectX is involved.

I haven't heard this request before. If this is at all possible, I would enjoy it.

I am quite surprised, though that HTC hasn't added this feature in the past. That leads me to believe they left it out for a reason.

IN

Why would you post "In" in a thread that has no chance of being locked by the moderators or even violating any of the forum rules?

As for the OP's original wish, I think it's a good idea.

ack-ack

In does not mean you like it, it means you're "In before the lock".

...Anyway...

Does anyone know how difficult this would be to implement?

It seems to me that they could just have the "search for controllers" line of code, that runs on game boot-up, run again when you press the refresh button.  However, I have no experience with DirectX.  I do feel like I've played DirectX games that automatically and instantly detected a connected controller no matter when.

It's not "all the way" back in, simply press Alt F4, plug it in, then re-enter game, it ain't that hard.

When you pre-load textures, it does takes a bit of time.  Plus I've had servers fill up on me by the time I got out and back in, a nuisance to say the least.

Fly in the other server, then. I'd have to say this is at the least of their worries now.

Not much fun when you know your entire squad was in the one you were just in...

Regardless, if it's as easy as it seems, it seems like a great addition to me.

Well, it's not HTC's fault that you forgot to plug it in now, is it.

Well it's not HTC's fault that the 262 is so much faster than all the other planes, but it got perked! :aok

However, I'm just saying that it seems like a very nice feature to have.  And this being a wishlist, seems like a great place to put it.

Where did the 262 come into play? (By the way, it is their fault, they control how fast the planes go, and their perk price. Just sayin. :) )

You don't have to restart your computer, you know. And if you preload textures, they should still be there when you log in again...

I was just making a point. :P (Wouldn't be too realistic if the thing only went the speed of a Spit 1 lol)

Yup, I know I don't have to restart.

But hey, I'm just putting the idea out.  If HTC decides they like it, they like it, out of my hands at this point. :)
