Man, isnt that convient? You're running in ROTC and you roll your ankle, possibly break something (Which didn't happen thank god) and then, you find you you tore a whole bunch of ligaments... Shoot, it's gonna be a while before I recover from this one.
(and I'm all trippy on meds)
:( :(

Sometimes sprained ankles are worse than breaks. When I was still skateboarding, I stalled on a pebble that was in a pool and came down on my ankle wrong severly spraining it. Had to have two operations to repair the ligaments and was in a cast for close to 6 months. Then to add to my rotten luck, a week after the cast was removed, went to skate the same pool, took a wrong line on the vertical, shot out about 9ft out of the pool and came down in the deep end landing on my shoulder dislocating the collar bone. Was in a shoulder cast for 10 months and had to have 2 more surgeries to repair the rotator cuff and nerve damage.

Yea, but I was running... :rofl
Of ALL the things I could get hurt from, it was that.... :cry
And what really blows is that to play aces high, I gotta walk up two flights of stairs.... err limp

You could have won 10k on AFV on that second one.

Oh, and after I rolled it, my ankle swelled up to the size of a base-ball. And I didn't even get my Vicadin and Ibprofuen till about 3 hours after I rolled it. It took me that damn long to get checked out of school and out of the nurses office :cry
-
Suck it up, puppie!
Hope yah feel better soon.
-
That sucks, get better.

Carry a sharpie and ask all the cute girls to sign your cast. If you're lucky, you might get a phone number. If you're really lucky, it will be her number, not the number to billy-bob's house of love.
-
Lost count of how many times I sprained my ankle playing soccer. I played from Age 3-14. I never came out of a game. Vicadin for an ankle sprain? It's overkill and unnecessary.
-
yeah.. but the scrip comes with a free skateboard certificate and plans for a jump ramp from the pharmaceutical company.

No man, I still cant walk on it, I'm on crutches and even through the cast, my ankle is the size of a base ball. And it turned out, I tore all the ligaments in my ankle. So... SURGERY! :uhoh
Plus, when you sprain your ankle, I dont think it's supposed to make that odd popping sound. The doctor says I gotta stay on crutches for I think 2 weeks :(
It depends on what happens after the surgery though. Damn, first time I ever had surgery, after really hurting myself for the first time... And of all the cool ways to hurt myself... it was RUNNING... :( :lol

You know what made the 2nd injury worse? I drove (in my old '63 VW 1300 Beetle Sedan) and had to drive myself to the hospital because my two friends didn't know how to drive a stick. Couldn't call an ambulance because we had to trespass to skate the pool as it was in an old abandoned hotel (El Cortez Hotel) in San Diego. Then the whole doctor exam was just as painful as the actual injury itself. They made me slide a bag of lead shot off the examining table using with disclocated shoulder arm. The last thing I remember when I did that was a loud scream, white light and then someone placing smelling salt under my nose because I had passed out from the pain. Also had to put up with comments from the medical staff about how a 30 year old shouldn't be skateboarding. Guess they were right, haven't skated in 8 years since, other than trips to the local store on my long board.

I hope you get to be on the mend soon :)
With 3 sons, I'm fortunate to not have any of them break any bones yet. I did take them to the ER three times one month, each time with split open heads. We've got our own little 'Staple Club' in our house. TxDad was in Iraq. They all proudly spread the hair on their scalp for photos to send to Dad while he was overseas. It was awful, actually... first time I ever saw anyone in shock was one of those split-open heads times. :uhoh

Rolled ankle while running?
GAWD kids are so weak nowadays...

The popping sound is the joint going in and out of the socket. I've never had surgery and have twice rolled my ankle in such a way that I saw the entire sole of my shoe.
A "sprain" is "tearing of the ligament".
-
Get it taken care of. My ankles got weak from repeated sprains, especially the right one, during the start of my military training. It never healed fully and they both roll over very easy now.

I'll second that one Maverick. First sprained it in high school, twice, one playing baseball and once playing football. Then about 5 times or so in the Marine Corps, 3 of those running, and it hasn't been right since.
-
I've sprained each of my ankles.
My left one playing Frisbee making a leaping catch and coming down my foot landed in that little ditch they dig around landscaping.
I felt it fold over (felt more like a fold then a roll) immediate agony.
I writhed on the ground like a snake with its head cut off for about 5 min.
Too much pain even to yell out.
Pain subsided to a semi tolerable level later on.
And other then an advil I never needed anything else
Second time My old dog (who was deaf as well as old) had gotten out of the yard one night.
I was concerned that since she could no longer hear. that she might try to cross the road and not hear a car comming at her.
I had a plane in flight in Airwarrior so I wanted to get her back quickly. So I ran in the direction I thought she went in.
realizing she hadnt gone that way I turned around and started to trot the other way. somehow I tripped and lost my footing and in trying to regain my balance I came down wrong on my right foot and rolled it.
Fell to the ground.
It hurt ALOT but nowhere near what I experienced with the other foot. At least not then.
Went to the hospital and also unlike the first foot where the pain kinda subsided. the pain in this one grew stronger.
Found out it was only a sprain and went home. complete with a brandy new set of crutches.
Middle of the night I got up to go to the bathroom.
I dont knwo if it was because of gravety that the blood was running back into my foot more or what.
But the pain grew ALOT worse.
So much that by the time I got back to the bed I was actually sweating and felt like I might pass out
Thing is. Between the two sprains. There was two different types of pain. Or I should say different ways the pain progressed.
The first one hurt immediately but subsided later on
The second didnt hurt as much but by the middle of the night felt worse then the first.
The first one the ankle swelled up alot larger and turned all sorts of cool colors as it healed
The second swelled but not as much. and didnt have nearly the bruising.
Oh and the first one now. I can crack. Like you crack your knuckles. Pretty regularly.
-
Vicadin?! For a sprained ankle?! Jebus fediddlein Krist we have become a nation of wusses.
Ice, rest, go to rehab. All those stupid exercises and stretching they make you do are worth it.
-
Well, apparently I got to have surgery :huh
So, I guess it was pretty bad.
I dont know how bad they can get, and this is the first time I have ever been hurt like this.
When the doctors saw it, they said "Wow, thats a bad break" Before the X-Ray came in.

... WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PLANE???!!!!

When I was a truck driver I drove a conventional for years. Went to work for a company that had cabovers. One night after driving for about 20 hours I pulled into a truckstop in Knoxville, parked and stepped out onto the fuel tank to get out. Uh, no fuel tank to step on in a cabover. I fell about 5 foot straight down on my left leg, sprained my knee and ankle. Took longer for my ankle to heal than my knee.

Yea, the doctor told me that the torn ligaments will take longer to heal than if it was just broken :huh

Got swarmed and shot down. Then went to the hospital.
Oh and the dog.
She was sitting on the front porch LMAO

LOL... see; irony adds to the story. Good one.. you had me laughing my bellybutton off... reminds me of when my cat managed to garrot my ankle, wreck my computer, nearly get me arrested and lose a bish war.
Pets.... *sigh*
:aok

Don't feel bad... A few months ago a buddy of mine tore his ankle up telling a story about snowmobiling. He made it out of the actual process of snowmobiling unscathed... It was the talking about it afterward that nailed him :)
We're gonna make fun of him for that 'til the day he dies :D

I tore my right calf last year at a BBQ. First time in my life I was EVER on crutches. Doc said "You're not using them right." I threw em down and hobbled out of the office. We still chuckle about that when I see him.
-
Crutches are okay. But by the time I'm off em, My right leg is gonna be flippin huge (because I usually only hop on one foot to get from A to B) and the way I'm supposed to use the crutches, I'm gonna be a lot stronger. Sad thing is, I think it takes like 6 to 8 weeks to heal :(

I tore my ACL at a taekwondo tournament last January. I had to have it removed until I could take the time to have reconstructive surgery. Physical therapy department tried to teach me how to used crutched high on morphine afterwards. It was not pretty. The sad part is I work at that hospital in the lab. I hear about it from them everytime I work. :cry

Man, it's not so bad until you wake up :O
MAN, it worse this morning than it did after I messed it up. :(

Sk8 or die dude! :aok
Glad to see there are more old skaters around. I was very active until 94 when i joined the navy. After i got out i didnt get back to it until this summer lol. Borrowed a board i saw and i didnt do an instant faceplant. I guess my balance has not completly failed me and it was fun. Dont think ill go down to the local skate shop any time soon though. :D

[hijack] What boards do you skate Nilsen? I skate Plan B (as of now, USED to skate) boards. They got the most 'pop' so you can jump over stuff very very easily.[/hijack] :aok

Plan B was not a brand that excisted back when i skated (i think) :lol
I skated when all skateboards had a different shape. Now they are all basicly the same shape and you cant tell the tail from the nose. Most of my boards were made by a company called Powell Peralta, and some from Santa Cruz.

man dude me and pesnic were running in front of u. after we got to air rifle range and saw you walk by man that thing was bigger than a baseball :salute
