Title: Killshots - Final Cut Released
Post by: ImADot on September 25, 2008, 07:04:55 AM
Ok, I forced myself to not fly last night so I could finish my second movie.  Thanks for the good feedback on my unfinished version...gave me the incentive to finish it quickly.

Hope you enjoy it.

Not much more to say from last time. I must admit though, it didn't seem different. So your preview had more of the action than your final product. However its still a very good film. :aok

I'm not sure what to say...I didn't remove anything from the preview - and I added three more minutes of action.  I was thinking of re-tooling a couple of scenes from a different perspective to add to the emotion that I wanted to convey, but the limitations of the film viewer's shot setup utility would have made it too tedious for my attention span.  ;)

Well. I feel if you want viewer opinions you should get the truth. I may not have been paying as much attention to the film because of my reaction to the music. I'm not a fan of soft, female singers with what sounds to be Back pipes and Egyptian chimes in the background (I prefer soundtracks, no lyrics involved.) Yet its still a great film because of the different camera angles, shots, and movements.

Great job.

I always welcome (and expect) honest opinions and criticism.  I take the good with the bad; it helps me grow my skills and my thought processes.  I don't ever take things personally - life's too short for that.

I'll take a closer look at my music library for the next ImADot epic adventure.   :D

With the plane's skin, I did kinda lose it a couple of times with the terrain.  I know that you can't help what skin is in the film because it's whatever you use in-game.  That's the only thing I had a small problem with.

BTW, I'm looking forward to meeting that Spit V with my Spit IX in MW when you guys come over.

Well, for combat, having a skin blend into the terrain helps keep you alive for the very reason you stated  :lol but it does kind of suck for cinematography .

Can you make your Spit IX some kind of glowing neon pink or something?  That way I'll be able to find you and know it's you so I can either HO you or run away  :t

Yes sir, that's why I normally choose one that's suited for the terrain, but now that I'm making these little movies, I've been faced with a dilemma.

You sir, know that you don't have to HO or run away when you come up against me, but I'll let you know which I'm in.  BTW we'll prolly be in MW tonight. :noid

I figured it was Celtic. Yet I'm no music expert, and wouldn't want to insult anyone by trying to push what some might see as horrible music into their treasured genre.

Thanks for the complements, guys; I'm really starting to like this movie-making thing.  Now I have to start thinking of a storyline for my next one.

As far as the music goes, I like the somber melody of the Celtic piece that I chose.  I thought I'd try a little juxtaposition between the fast action of air combat and the mellow music to try and convey an emotion of people "killing and dying" for their "country".  After all, isn't the point of making a movie to stir an emotion in your audience?

He actually isn't. I agree with him, to an extent. Since I don't care for music but for soundtracks alone. :)

I enjoyed the movie and I thought the music was a great match.

The only criticism I have is like lowZX14 I found it hard to track the aircraft at a distance while looking down against the terrain. Could you take some portions of those sequences from a different angle, maybe looking up against the sky?

overall, nice job  :salute

I'll be working on a squad video next, and will take everyone's suggestions under advisement.  :)
I've also got lots of mp3's and CD's to get re-aquainted with for the next soundtrack.  :lol
I also set up a YouTube account, so will start posting there instead of my photobucket account.
Here's a link to the YouTube version:

I think the one scene that's the hardest to see is the one that starts around 1:52 where I'm coming up under a zero who's trying to shoot one of the "good guys".  I might redo this for a later movie.  Here's a screenshot of a possible angle:

That would work.

Perhaps set it up with a camera shot so the camera extends towards the right in a backwards motion.
