I'll bite.

Do you really think that someone with the IQ of a special ed student could become a Governor?

By your estimate of Palin's IQ you must think GWB's IQ is hovering around the low 70's.  It must really irk you that these people of well below average intelligence have outsmarted your people for the last ten years or so.  What does that say about the IQ of the average lib?

Then we found out both Kerry & Gore's grades were even worse.  :rofl

I am guessing she would score in the above average range
She is a very intelligent person, she just sucks at verbalizing, it is a very common trait, many of the great writers and philosophers in history were the same way. She is ruled by her emotional side of her brain, she -like many people- if given the chance to think about the answer, instead of off the cuff responses, would sound much more intelligent. I tend to trust people more,  who hesitate to respond, and act as if they are thinking, more than those who quickly come off with a retort. I recommend it highly to everyone, it is a great barometer that is taught in many schools of business. She would appear wiser if she was able to just say - I really do not know, but I will know by the time it is necessary to know- people appreciate honesty, and there is nothing more honest than saying - I'm not 100% sure, and i can admit when i am wrong.

I agree with Nwbie. She is much smarter than folks are giving her credit for.

The VP debate at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, will start at 9 p.m. ET and be moderated by PBS's Gwen Ifill.

I wish all politicians would do that, instead of running off at the mouth and pretending they know everything., like they do most of the time.

Name a great philosopher that was bad at verbalizing.  Your suggestion cuts against the entire western-Socratic tradition.

91 is considered average, actually average starts at 90.  I was therefore not bashing her, just saying I find her to be average, albeit low.  Now, she may very well have a higher IQ than 91, at least I'd hope she does. :aok

She sure doesn't hide her ignorance of some topics very well.

About your signature-

Nietzsche is a complex and provocative thinker, but he is a clear advocate of the role of solitude in every level of human activity, from philosophical and psychological to creative and societal. He was profoundly insightful of human psychology, in part because he was not engulfed in society or ideology, and could see clearly and in a detached but engaged way. His fearless clarity and willingness to explore topics to their logical endpoint makes his contribution to the concept and practice of solitude unique, valuable,  and enduring.

Of course I had to look into the question. What I found, albeit sparse, is that it's suggested to be in the low 100's. Maybe as high as a buck and a quarter.

Then I try to see how it compares....

It looks as if among the most recent crop of candidates Ron Paul and Hillary are considered the front runners and I found one source to estimate Obama's even higher. But only one.

It looks as though among postulated I.Q.'s (most don't have published test scores and many couldn't have been evaluated by current standards) the intellect does not necessarily signify an estimable presidency.

Palin's IQ probably isn't too shabby. But the under-estimation is helpful.

Palin can be expected to be ignorant about many past supreme court cases, and ignorant about foreign policy because she is not a lawyer, and she is not yet experienced on the international issues.  These are not her strengths.  her real strengths are hidden from the light-weight dems who are being trained by media to have contempt.   but the smart ones are very worried.

Whoa bro. I'm sorry.... I can't back you here, in either case.  Expected to be ignorant about supreme court cases?  That's pretty impressive.... I guess the high schools in Alaska don't teach the biggies... Marbury v Madison,  Brown v Board of Education, Dred Scot v Sandford , Plessy v Ferguson,   OR she could even have known...oh i dunno... Bush v Gore...MAYBE even Baker v Exxon which she gave a governor's comment on  .  This question Couric asked was the softest softball Palin got the entire interview.... and she wiffed.  I asked an eighth grader (a relative) who attends a public school if she could name any cases.... and she named three of the above, in maybe a minute.

Ignorant on foreign policy is a big one.  She's up for the #2 job in the country.  Funny, when the commander of NORAD in Alaska shoots down her "Putin raises his head" response.  He went on record saying, that no russian a/c have violoated our airspace in the 15 years he's known, directly contradicting the VP candidate's answer.

IQ tests aren't very useful for measuring intellect as they are biased.  I think she's not as dumb as she's looking right now... at least I hope.  I'll give her credit for around 110.  Although, maybe she is good at random pattern recognitions.

And yes, I'm worried.  The bar is now so low, for her, that she doesn't have to do anything great tonight, in the debate.  If she doesn't curse or vomit, she's got a very good chance of appearing like the winner.  And, honestly, if you care about this country..... that is scary.

I think she was asked which supreme cases she disagreed with...

anyway, she would be a great VP, and because I believe she would be smart enough to listen to her civilian advisors and her generals, as President, she would do just fine.  I prefer McCain Palin by far over the lasting damage Obama Biden would do to this country.

the problem was the liberal democrats putting up such poor excuses of competitors.  thats what allowed bush to slip throught the cracks and wind up in the white house not just once, but twice.

A point that means much to me is the supreme court coming fourth and affirming for all the right to keep and bear arms as an individual right and that it always has been.  Thats a legacy of Bush appointing right thinking people into the top court of the nation that I will always be thankful for.

Lastly, its a big mistake for you to blame the president for all your woes while giving the congress a apparent pass on everything "he" touched.   Congress and the President are partners in government and for the most part during the Bush tenure have worked together.

moray..  I don't think you are stupid on this..  just "out of touch"  no one has used the term liberal to describe the kind of free thinker and lover of individual rights you show in decades.

The new meaning of the term is liberal socialist.   Just as a JFK democrat is nothing like a ted kennedy democrat.   Just like democrats would like to forget that they were, only a few short decades back.. the party of racist ideals.

Party-line is what's wrong with the people in this country. Not all can be good in a party and not all can be bad in another.

Paline is NOT smart, she's a prop, she knows nothing of what she speaks, and every time she speaks is shovels out half-truths and down right imagination gone wild.

But to say she's still smarter then any liberal (Dem) that's just way out there and way off. And it's a red flag arguing politics with you is fruitless as you will avoid all truths to stay party-line. To be party-line it requires you give up 50% of your mentality and that requires people to act stupid.

8 years of reps is something this country just couldn't handle, 12 years is suicide.

Whoopdeedooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANOTHER freakin lawyer. We've already got about 400 of those in D.C. screwing things up, all we really need is to promote one.

Let's be serious here, what makes you think you HAVE to be smart to be a lawyer? I've seen dozens that couldn't find their way around the corner. And I grew up in a courthouse. I KNOW what lawyers are like. My sister IS a lawyer, my daughter starts law school in less than a year, once she graduates college. Being a lawyer doesn't impress me in the least.

So what were your opinions of Kerry and Gore losing to "W" both times?   Seems like the Democrats are the Morons of the Country, no?

Osama is a crappy public speaker.   He doesn't write his own speeches or he wouldn't stumble when his teleprompter fails.   Problem is they both fail.

Lets see you pass a law course.

I suppose you missed the part where I said my sister was a lawyer. My IQ is as high or higher than hers, she'll admit that. And I've seen the content of the courses, I studied some of her books. And I grew up in a courthouse. I can pass a law course. But can you fly a jet and dodge missiles?

I stand by my earlier statement about IQ.

The following facts can be verified in the book "The Reich Marshal:  A Biography of Hermann Goering" by Leonard Mosley.  I used that text as one of my sources for a paper I wrote while working on my MSE in History.

In 1945, an army psychologist named G.M. Gilbert conducted an IQ test of the top Nazi leaders being prosecuted in the Nuremberg trials.

Hjalmar Schacht                               143
Arthur Seyss-Inquart                         141
Herman Goering                                138
Karl Doenitz                                     138
Franz von Papen                               134
Eric Raeder                                      134
Dr. Hans Frank                                  130
Hans Fritsche                                   130
Joachin von Ribbentrop                      129
Wilhelm Keitel                                   129
Albert Speer                                    128
Alfred Jodl                                       127
Alfred Rosenberg                              127
Constantin von Neurath                     125
Walther Funk                                   124
Wilhelm Frick                                   124
Rudolf Hess                                     120
Fritz Sauckel                                   118
Ernst Kaltenbrunner                          113
Julius Streicher                                106

The results delighted Goering, because it showed that the Nazi leaders were far from the illiterate boobs many in the West believed them to be.  The average IQ is about 130.

Ergo, IQ is no guarantee of ability or wisdom or moral strength.

Ergo, IQ is no guarantee of ability or wisdom or moral strength.

I would like to cite the U.S. Army study that related performance and ability *directly* to intelligence.  The study separated recruits into three different intelligence groups : low, average, and high.  The three groups were given various military tasks.  The efficiency and effectiveness of how they accomplished the tasks (as mentioned above) was directly related to IQ.

91 is considered average, actually average starts at 90.

average IQ is 100, by definition. 68% of a population is between 85-115, 95% between 70-130, 99.7% between 55-145.

the problem was the liberal democrats putting up such poor excuses of competitors.  thats what allowed bush to slip throught the cracks and wind up in the white house not just once, but twice.

Sorry but our supreme court is really fouled up . When it says the government can take property from one private individual and give it to another private individual the are rewriting the constitution thru judicial fiat .
