I have been playing this game for about three months now. I am not as good as i want to be but i DO practice a lot and i played AWIII back in the day for over three years.
Since i have been playing AH, I have been invited and joined two different squad (Muffin Munchers & Black Aces) within a few weeks the same thing happened. The squads are disbanded and i am NEVER informed! one night i log in and POOF! No squad. What the heck is up with that??? Maybe its my selection but The Black Aces are a great bunch of guys an di had a blast flying with them and then all of a sudden...Nothing. \
Maybe i will just have to be more selective in chosing my squad. One of the main reasons i joined AH was to be in a squad. I was a member of the AIR PIRATES in AW and NEVER left the squad, They never disbanded and we had over 40 members! If someone can enlighten me i would appriciate it very much. Thanks.

I suggest not joining a squad until you fly with them for several weeks or more. Get to know them before joining a squad.
-
What was your name in AW3 ? I started about a month before you and flew AW for a lil over 2 years .
-
Try flying Knight on 144 with Precision(+)
We have about 25 members and do FSO, ESO, arrange scrimmages to fight other squads, have meetings, ranks, promotions medals, a great web site and mercandise . If anyone asks you what you are doing say I invited you to try out. :aok
-
Never heard of either squad so that should tell you something.
Fly solo for awhile and watch what squads you see often. Hook with them asking what you can do to help on a mission. Fly with them for awhile and ask what they do, when their squad nite is, etc.
Then ask if they are recruiting. Simpatico.

Air Pirates split and one group went to WWII online and the other came here and became Airmegeddon. They disbanded about a 2 years ago. APdrone is with the nightmares currently. They have been around about 11 years counting AW days. They aren't so active in the MA but are more involved in FSO's. If you are interested in the the nightmares stop by Nightmares.org. If you are more interested in doing it all please contact Bonz, Dadsgun, DCboss, Falcon23, or any Rolling Thunder Member. Currently Dadsguns is recovering from surgery and Falcon is rebuilding his computer. But they will probably be back this weekend. Still DCboss is on almost every night.
PS. I think I remember that name Ghostber. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions.
-
as has been stated, fly with squads and see wich are active, which are not. get info, ask for a squad invite, yadda yadda yadda. If your lookin for a squad, pm J0KER, if the squad and him say yes, well invite ya on vox, put ya on a probation period. J0KER is on evey night, for a while usually, and many f us would be more than willing to help ya get back in the groove. anyway, as i said, pm J0KER if your lookin for a squad (.p J0KER text). :salute hope ya find a squad you like!

Patience is key with finding a good squad. Other things to look for:
1) Personalities
2) Scheduling <if they aren't up when you are..well>
3) Styles <some are regimented, others just go with the flow>

Yeah - just make sure you check out the squad first, make sure you check the squad out first otherwise you might be in for a shock when you join and find out there's a squeaker at the helm. Or in fact any amount of squeakers typically ends in a bad way.
Just make sure you check out the squads for their style and gameplay, some squads are good at one area and lack the rest - for example my squad Wings of Terror don't do much base taking, we furball and fly around together. If you try to join our squad for base taking you won't be to happy.
-
fly with the prospective squad, to get a feel for what they are about, dont "accept" just to be accepted.
-
I know the feeling. When I first started playing I joined a very good squad and then one day it basically just died. After that I gave it some time and joined the LynchMob. I've been with them for almost a year. The Mob has been together for around four years. Great bunch of guys to fly with. Makes the game much more enjoyable. There's alot of great communication within the squad during a fight. We also believe in looking out for countrymen. There's nothing worse than getting shot down and having multiple friendlies around and no one says a thing.
You're more than welcome to wing up with us anytime. Get a feel for the Mob. I think as a squad we have a very good reputation as team players.
We're on a world tour right now. Currently we're flying Rook, last month we were Knights and next month we're going back home to Bishlandia. It's been a blast so far. Met alot of new people and shot down some that we already know. We also get involved in FSO.
Check us out at thelynchmobsquad.com
Good luck finding a home :salute

We have been going through and cleaning up the game ID database, and a side result of that is a squad could be disbanded if the CO of the squad is no longer a subscriber to the game.
Simply reform your squad under an active CO.
This could have been the reason.
-
You didnt shop around for a good stable squad. My squad **THE LYNCHMOB** has been around close to 4 years We have approx 40 members and growing and we arent going anywhere. I have to much time invested in this squad to just dissband it because im bored. There are several squads that have been around along time each have their own recruitment rules so dont be disscouraged just do alittle shopping before ya join.<S> :salute

If you're looking for a squad just go to squad forums and look for something reliable. spy on the leaders posts to make sure he's not a sweethearty.

Haven't been able to hear any oinks, it's just been loud squealing then a smell of bacon as an erratically flown plane goes down in flames! I spose pigs don't fly too well having no opposable thumbs... or fingers for that matter.

I flew AW for well over 5 years and stayed with the same squad. I came here last year and have been with the same squad I joined after a few months here. I have always enjoyed flying with the squads I have been a member of. Here is how I chose each squad.
First off when I started each new game I spent a few months just learning how to do it and what the community in the game was like. Figured out what I liked and what I didnt like about the game and the community.
Then I started flying with those players that were IMO decent people. Over time I was invited to several squads. With each perspective squad I spent several weeks flying with them and participating in whatever they did. Eventually in both games, AW and AHII I found what IMO is a good squad that was populated with decent people that shared my style of play for that game.
In AW I flew with VF-63 Hellcats and here in AHII I fly with the SE's. IMO both are great squads and great people and a lot of fun.
I would recommend you try a similar approach and be patient until you find the right group of people to run with.

Whatever you decide, don't get suckered into joining Army of Muppets. a bunch of juvenile behaving, foul mouthed drunks. There's no serious squad cohesion at all. All the Muppets want to do is goof off and have fun, no organization whatsoever.

excellent advice. there is nothing wrong with not being in a squad. there's some out there that'll treat you as one of their own, regardless of your status....as long as you're decent people.

I can remember flying in a squad, and we were damn good.Does anyone remember JUDE. Lol. anyways seasons change. Cohesion online is no different then in the real world. Married couples don't stay married. Familiarity breeds contempt. just be carefull who you deal with.
-
Thanks folks...Good advice all. i have flown with Killumanati and with Jokers jokers. Both squads rock and would be honored to be invited. i think i will take the advice given and fly solo for a while.

In AWIII I was known as lowfly. Or Low for short. The Air pirates were a great bunch of guys and we were well organized and it was a lot of fun. i miss it but i will try to be more selective in who i chose to flyt with from now on. Thanks again for the advice

In the end it's all about having fun, and hanging out with good people.
People have different reasons for starting squads or being in them. To each his own.
I think the hardest part is avoiding taking yourself and your squad seriously. I also believe that some squads get too big, too fast and implode on themselves when the personalities start to clash. Part of that is it's easy to get fired up about the latest and 'greatest', as well as belonging. I look at the old 475th of which I was a part as a classic example. It was great fun, then we started getting serious and thinking we mattered. keeping folks happy got tough, friction started to build and boom, we imploded. You'll find the remnants scattered among the 80th, Muppets, 39th and elsewhere. All good guys, but it took that to remind us we just weren't that big a deal and having fun is the key.
It is after all just a name after your ID. Getting to know folks from all the countries and all the squads is not a bad thing. Take your time, fly with different groups and find out what crew fits for you. Gotta have fun with it :)
-
best advise is to play the game and learn the best squads, ask them if you can tag along or ask them if you could be a one night member to see if you like there ways or not.
check the squads back ground like i did to see if there long lasting or not, with the L.T.A.R.'s theres even a WIKIPIDIA page on us here at
http://www.aboutus.org/Ltar.org
here with the LTAR's you need to be well rounded in knowledge with most rides to do well in what you know, there kinda strict but its a family nun the less and we have fun joking around but when we get togethere and do something, we do, or die as one but we have fun doing it, maby you can be LTAR if you work at it. or another squad but keep trying and playing, youll get there and find the best squads to join in time.. just look at what there is to offer you and your talent.

Sorry to here about your squad problems....There are plenty of squads out there that are great..I am the CO of the Wobblin Gobblins :D We have a great time but we are training fanatics with a real time command structure.. This does not suit a lot of gamers ,and I understand that..You need to figure out what kind of squad u want to be in.. We are a new squad established JAN 2008. The 412th is a great squad.. Aces and eights.. LTARS...Unforgiven, and lots more out there :aok I have a bad memory so please forgive me..Do not get discouraged there are squads here that have been around for years..Good luck and.... :salute
-
The 412th is a great squad..
Thanks for the kind words and I'll pass that on to SkatSr and the rest of the 412th :salute
-
Many times squads start up and jump in too seriously. Folks join and play for awhile but as the new wears off they realize it is too much work because everyone is too serious. The squad then implodes.
Good "rule of thumb" fly with the guys some to get a feel of what they are trying to do. Watch how they interact before making a choice.
-
Good advice all! The interesting thing about what happened to me was that with both the Muffin Munchers and the Black Aces....The guys i flew with were AWESOME! Very friendly, older flyers that like to fly and joke around while doing it.....(WeRborg...I shall never forget you serenading me during the NOE bomber run!). They didnt ever strike me as the kind of folks that would just disappear. From those two squads i only see three guys flying on-line anymore. It is just weird.
To the point of starting my own squad. I would love to do that but then i have ot CO. I am too new and too lazy to do that. If i did that then someone would be on here complaining about MY squad imploding...LOL I wouldnt even know how to start a squad. Hey.....How DO you start a squad???
-
In the end it's all about having fun, and hanging out with good people.
Yep, which is reason why I've stayed in the 479th for going on 10 years now and others in the Raiders have been in the squadron since it was created in back in '96.
ack-ack

Play MW4 mercs much? I worship my machines ;) You know who we are.
-
Actually i have never played MW4. I have played Battletech and this is where i get my love for the mighty ghost Bears!
Now......Back to the squad thing. I guess i will post what i am looking for in a squad and maybe one of the ones that i have flown with in the past two to three weeks will pipe up and let me fly with them on a trial basis.
Here is what i am looking for........Please do nto be offended by these...i have reasons for most of these and i feel that they are valid.
1. Sunday night Squad night - This is really the only time i can get online long enough to play for any length of time.
2. Training, Training, Training - God knows i need the help with this game!
3. Loyal to the mighty Bish - I have flown with the Bish side for the entire time i have been on AH (all of three months :rock) and would like to continue to do so.
4. I do not like GVing, I am not good at GVing and do not really wish to learn. The only time i get in a GV is to shoot down base attacking airplanes.
5. I can bomb but i am not good at it at all! i am willing to learn but it isnt as enjoyable as flying fighters.
6. Must not take yourselves too seriously. I will follow orders on squad nights and during missions but when you chastise me for cracking a joke on vox i will have a problem with that. I am here to have fun and cracking jokes with my squaddies is one of the more enjoyable things i do. When it is time to get serious i will be the most serious, focused flyer on the squad but we play this game to have fun and i will do that to the best of my ability.
7. I also curse....if you have a problem with cursing on vox than maybe i am not the person to be in your squad.
So....There you go. Any squads that think i might be a good fit i would love to hear from you. I have flown with quite a few good squads (Killumanati, Jokers Jokers, Rolling Thunder, Death from Above ETC) and enjoyed it very much.
-
If your into flying hellcats and anything else that blows things to hell, check out the VF-31 TOMCATTERS. We fly rook now, RATTFINK is the person you want to talk to. We are a group of older crazy dudes and enjoy the game for what it is. Check us out sometime............ :salute
-
Back in AW, i was with a few squads, I was even an original Chawk. Here i was in one squad for a bit, Drunken Monkeys. Nice guys, but i just prefer to do my own thing. I was never one for squad nights or "taking orders".
Just make your own squad, do your own thing, fly with anyone yah like, any country yah like. The key thing is just to have fun, thats what this game is all about.

Hey Ghost,
You are always welcome to fly with us Jokers. We have been a little more relaxed lately with Joker in the process of moving and RL taking over most of our free time, myself included, but we normally have anywhere from 5-10 players on nightly and more on the weekends. We stay Bish so that fits your needs and we will do out best to help you in any way possible. Alot of our guys enjoy GV'in and bombing (i do not normally), but there is always air support needed and fun to be had for all. Cursing is not a problem as long as it's not directed at me all the time...lol. Anywho drop us a line at JokersJokers.com or we will see you in the MA's.

Ghostber, do you Remember Hoagi from AW? He's in the Jokers squad too. Go ahead and try the Jokers but give Rolling Thunder a shot too.
-
Ghost, you're welcome to come check out the 353rd as well. We've been active for at least a year and a half now and are still looking to grow. Ultimately though, it's your decision. Just keep in mind there are several top notch squads out there with great reputations and established longetivity. The 251st, AK's, 325th, 327th, LCA, and JG11 come to mind as we 353rd guys have flown with and against them, and they regularly participate in FSOs. They also have known reputations of being quality squads.
Good luck finding a home! :aok

GHOST,
My advise to you would be not to hold yourself down to one country when looking for a squad. All the things your looking for might be in a different one and that is more important to find than what chess piece you play under.
Look into the Tomcatters. Contact Ratfink...or even the LCA to name two that I know of as being good. The birds of prey are also good. I think they're bish also.
