The Ray players deserve the fall classic. However, the Ray fans don't. What a bunch of bandwagoners. That place was a ghost town all season long despite the fact that they had a good team. They don't deserve to be happy.
P.S. I'm not a Redsox fan. Just an objective observation.

You are exactly correct. The TB Ray's have had a HUGE tarp covering a good portion of their seats due to the horrible turnout to their games.
WTG RAYS!!! tisk tisk to the fans. I hope the Ray's get a better turnout in the coming years.

I agree, and I think that winning the pennant will hopefully create more of an interest in this team. This team is still pretty young, and has a lot of good years ahead.
-
I was thinking the same thing, talk about fair weather fans.
-
It seems to be that way with all Florida teams though, except college.
Either way, as a RedSox fan, it was sad to lose, but the Rays definitely earned their bid in the World Series. Good Luck to them.

Red Sox and Rays are good teams. But their fans aren't the same! Maybe they need more COWBELL. :O

don't really care what kind of "fan" some think I am LOL
baseball bores me - fell asleep during the game last night
still excited for the team and the community
from last to first is historic - hope they go all the way

I am a big fan of the Rays. Yes, tickets are cheap ($13 for outfield seats), but I have RL to deal with. Besides, who wants to go to the park and pay $7-9 for a stinkin beer and $4 for a dog after having to pay $20 to park. For two people, it can get pretty danged expensive. The only times that I have gone this year, was when someone gave me tickets. Don't jump on the Rays fans like that. There are many other teams out there that cannot fill a park either.
You also have to understand the sports climate in this area. The Yankees have there spring training headquarters in Tampa. Have for a very long time. They are a large draw to the park when in town. The Red Sox have their spring training in Fort Myers which is only about an hour and a half away and are another large draw when in town. Tigers here in Lakeland. The Rays have only been here for ten years. They needed something like this season to draw the fans in. You will start seeing more fans in the seats next year.

Glad the Rays made it, Matt Garza's Dad is a Seargent Major in my unit. He is one proud father today. WTG Matt. :salute

Yeah I love the fact that all those so called "rays fans" come out of their holes when their team does good. A true fan would support the team through thick and thin.

Yeah, like the "Patriots fans" of late. How many of them were "die hard" when Tony Eason was their QB? We both know the answer. Boston LOST, end of story, leave the "fans out of it". Otherwise it's "sour grapes".

Wtf is up with the fish tank that is an intended target for home run balls? :huh

Those happen to be rays. Hence the name of the team. Kind if like a living mascot. Money is donated to charity for every home run hit into the tank. Besides, who wants to have smelly old socks as a team logo. :lol

The Diamondbacks stadium has a pool in it...went to a game out there. Heck of a stadium, the football stad is state of the art as well.

One thing I think people are forgetting is that the Rays are a small market team thats only 10 years old. There isnt much tradition and little reason to follow them up until now. The other thing is Florida is the retirement capital of the world. Most people come from other states to retire with other teams on thier ball caps. Many of my baseball oriented friends go to watch the Yankees or the Red Soxs. Most of the fair weather fans you guys talk about probly rooted for different teams thruout the year. The core group of fans attended games no matter what the season record was. The people that were born here and live here I think have always been fans. The Rays had 40+ games with attendance of 30,00 or more. Clearly even before September they had a following.
If you count the metro area Id say you might have 1,000,000 people within reasonable driving distance (for a week game anyway). If you were to sell out every home game that would be around 3,500,000 seat days. Do you see your favorite team 3-4 games a year? Do most people? Can many afford it (more so now than in the past)?

I only have enough passion for one sport. I hated to see the Red Sox lose, but oh well. I dont follow baseball, too many games.
BTW..GO Pats!

Rays are fish. It looks like cow-nosed rays they have in there? I don't know, to me the gimic is bizarre. I used to work at an Aquarium in California, and I can say with first hand experience that having animals open to the public is challenging enough without alcohol and home-run balls to worry about! :lol We had a similar species where I worked, and they were very amenable to captivity and public interaction (minus long-fingernails), but I'd hate to see one get plunked! :uhoh
