What's up with these stupid map re-sets anyway? I mean the way they are handled after the war is won.
Here's what brings it up: Last night I had about a hour and a half or two hours to play. During that time i decided to take a set of AR234's on a strategic bombing mission. I got to and dropped on my target and had a great drop. One of my best. I turned for home and was on final approach when the Bish won the war.
Here's the first stupid thing: The base I'm about to land at changes from Bish to Knight. Who's brilliant idea was that? I was just lucky I wasn't touching down or the ack would have lit up and I would have lost the perks for 3 AR234's. KEEP THE BASE OWNERSHIP THE SAME AS THEY WERE JUST BEFORE THE MAP WAS WON!
OK, so back to my story... So the base I'm approaching changes. The one just to the North is still Bish, so I turn and hightail it north on the deck. I'm watching the minutes count down. 4 minutes to re-set... 3 minutes to re-set... 2 minutes to re-set... I can see the field. I slip those 234's hard trying to get them to slow from full speed in almost no distace... 1 minute to re-set... I'm down to flap speed lined up on the runway... Host Connection Lost!
Now, I have to say that in the past I have used this to my advantage to just stay in flight if I hadn't recorded a kill so that the sortie wouldn't count against my K/D, K/S, etc. I've also found places to ditch when I knew I couldn't get "home" (whatever that means when all the frigging bases are changing from one country to another) so that I'd get full credit for the sortie in terms of K/D, K/S, etc. with just a minimal reduction in kill points, but those were always in fighters. I wasn't about to ditch 3 AR234's and lose the perks last night.
So in the end, I spent almost an hour in flight and my sortie counted for 0, as if it never happened because I was still in flight when the map re-set. That was over half my available gametime for the night lost. There has to be a better way to allocate this stuff when the map is re-set; Give everone credit for a landing. Allocate based on a player's camp history relative to landings, deaths, etc. Anything but nothing! My vote goes for GIVE EVERYONE CREDIT FOR A LANDING.

i dont think you lose perks if your in flight and the map changes
-
Don't fly on a map when the odds are greatly against you. However frustrating this might have been for you, there are plenty of arenas to choose from.
I have been in your position before and lost perks, etc.
-
i dont think you lose perks if your in flight and the map changes
I know that. The point is I lost an hour of play for nothing.
maybe one way to deal with it is anyone who's been on the same sortie for over 30 minutes (or some set amount of time) gets credited with a landing. That would take care of the buffers and those who are on a roll continuously re-arming.
-
You should be glad you werent on the rearm pad of one of those fields.
-
Lets get rid of the 'war win' altogether and scoring of any kind.

:aok i concur

Yeah I know how you feel. I was on a bombing run and had spent what seemed like forever and about 1 minute from target, map changed, max number of players went from like 400 to 100 and I got kicked out. That is a gross oversight by the devs and I hope it is addressed soon. Please give some kind of 30 minute warning timer or something before kicking me out so I don't waste my time.
-
Did you have fun during your hour in the bombers? That's all that counts, score is secondary to having fun (at least most people think so). Sorry you didn't get anything added to your score (but I bet you did, just not maximum perkies or anything).
Map resets are the way they are...no use whining about it.
-
Fly offline, I've never seen a war won yet there. You say you've taken advantage of it before and now it 'hurt' so it evened out.
It's your choice to change the hour you flew from 'fun time' to a 'waste of time' on your perception of how it ended. Maybe the perception needs adjustment.

Everyone gets kicked off during a map change.

Honestly flying a bomber is only fun as you drop your eggs and try to get home. I don't think most people have fun climbing for like 30 minutes just to have a message that says host disconnected or whatever. The game is pretty fun but I think that could be tweaked a bit.
-
If you are climbing for 30 minutes, you won't see any action.
If you're going to bomb an airfield at 20k, you might as well do it offline. No living opponent will bother you at that height.
-
I guess I am really really unlucky then. I must have a sign all the way up to 20k that says free target practice lol
-
Would this have anything to do with score or points?

wtf is score :(

Nahhh, I mean, that would have been like 200 points or so. No one would make a big deal about that, would they? :devil

Are you saying that because YOU don't like it. that YOUR idea of fun MUST be IMPOSED on those that do like the play/fight/win (or loose) aspect of aces high?
The Politburo has decreed that furballing is the ONLY acceptable form of gameplay to be tolerated in the Peoples Republic of Aces High as enumerated by Comrad Delirium, Chairman of the Peoples Committee of Air Combat Flight Simulations.
Long Live Comrad Delirium!!

Excellent! Now we can get some things done. As minister of propaganda I would first like to say that there was never a war/land grab. The rumors were started by the war . . . . errrrr Imperialist pigs trying to create a division between furballers and the alleged land grabbers, that to be clear one more time, never existed to begin with.

Look at it like this, people who look for the furball are "fighter" types. I myself don't get bothered that folks want to take a field here or there, but try fighting them and they run like diarrhea. Who wants to log in on a fighting game and chase run twits for an hour or two, while they avoid any resistance whatsoever? :aok

Sounds like most folks are so busy taking some sort of uber-cool "score? what's score?" stance that they're missing a perfectly valid point the bald has brought up here.
I haven't been on for too many map resets. But, Saturday? I was on when one of the other teams won in Late War. I was up, winging with a buddy. He had re-armed and had been flying the same plane for at least an hour. I had about 30 minutes in. Suddenly we get the "War won by..." and all of the bish bases turn to the other team.
My first thought was, WTF? Ok, fine, the other team won the war. But why am I now completely unable to land anywhere? Forget kills or score...now I have a choice of augering in some manner, or flying around in circles waiting for the map to reset.
The reward for reset? I get disconnected and the game shuts completely down.
Baldeagle is completely right here. There has to be a MUCH MUCH better way to coad the war reset than to kick the player to desktop. I don't focus on score, but the way it is now, it's like all the flight time never happened.
Maybe argue on the merits of his point than trying to be the uber-cool no-score guy (tm). It's a good point worth discussing.

But if it kept their names off the main page for another tour... LOL

Considering you can pretty much show that the decline in game play started with the Top Tour Score potato of the Month Award contest HTC ran a few years ago, I say Del has a great point.

You should be glad you werent on the rearm pad of one of those fields.
I was on final with 12 kills when the map reset hit and changed the base to un-friendly. I was only a little bothered by it yet at the same time it was kind of funny.
IMHO the bases should not change when the war is won. I don't feel strongly enough to stomp my foot about it, but this is my opinion..
-
Was once flying around in a 262 unknowing that we had 1 more field to get. I had 6 kills and was on final for a rearm. Touched down and as I was slowing near the end of the runway, we won the war. I throttled up as fast I could and put my flaps all down while I was at 100 mph trying to dodge ack, trees, and hedges. I made it out with dual engine oil leaks, a PW, missing left flap and missing elevator. Luckily my PW lasted longer than the map reset time, or else I would have been 270 perks in the hole.
-
I've been involved with the war winning base take a few times. I think it's funny when the base you just took suddenly turns to an enemy base and it's even funnier when it turns into a totally different country base than what you just took.
Trying to re take the base in the limited time available is also very challenging, unless a second goon or M3 is close that is.
Best of all it's after losing the map and watching the guys try to scatter from a de-acked and completely vulched base from tower. :rofl

Im with him.
Then al lthe twits would stop hording and fight more

Not so Delirium, many times I've been at least that high, and recently too,
I look behind after a drop and here comes at least one or two "Desperados"
hard on my tail. I usually make sure they pay the price too.

I see this sentiment about the decline of gameplay lamented by many ack-ack... Decline how? and by who's standards, the megahour a month furballers that have no other life? I fail to understand the "furballing is the only valid pastime" crowd and their disdain toward all that might not have 1000 hours a month to perfect the "art" of the perfect pick. The great thing about Aces High is that there is room for the toolshredders, the land grabbers, the GVers and even the furballers, even though there is a furballing only arena (DA). If "your" crowd despises all the others that MIGHT like to spend their $15. doing something beside furballing, there is a Dueling Arena available that caters specifically to the furballing is supreme mindset.
Personally i enjoy doing all the options available and not limiting myself exclusively to endless furballing.

Ah, there's the rub...they can't get their names on the HTC homepage at the end of each tour if all they do is fly in the DA, since there is no such thing as score and rank in the DA.

I agree BaldEagl that what happened to you is very unfortunate. The bases should not automatically change sides when the war is won. I hope you only lost some of those perks and not all of them because it was a "disco" right?
-

You have a point...
I agree with BaldEagl though... why does the map revert to the original base alignment before the terrain changes? I was once in a 262 and was "disco'd" by a reset and couldn't land kills, so "B.E." others DO feel your pain!
-

I imagine if one played to get their name in lights on the main page then the DA is not the arena to play in. Since I, along with quite a few others, think rank/score is meaningless and do not factor it in our game play.

-
It's not about getting my name on the front page. Heaven only knows that will never happen with me.
This particular instance is about score though. Other than watching the text buffer fill up with all those damaged toolsheds it's about the only thing that you get out of an extended bomber mission. After about an hour of flight time it's like I was cheated out of the only real gratification that I could get from that sortie.
It's like going to a really great movie and having them shut down the projector just before the end and then booting you out.

I guess it's something you really won't understand unless you were here prior but I'll try to explain because from your reply, you're assuming I'm talking about something else entirely.
I'm not referring to Furballer vs. Toolshedder, hord vs. non-hord, angles fighter vs. energy fighter, etc. I am referring to a decline of game play that I've noticed since the contest. Since then, the game play has decidedly shifted into the "play for score/rank" style of play which breeds timid behavior. Let me preface this by saying that score potatos and those that are timid have been around since time immortal and will always be, they were in AW, WB and in this game. However, since the contest, this sort of playing style has become the norm and it has had impact on the game play.
People can also say that the commercials have also had an impact besides drawing in more players. It can be argued that it also attracted a more casual gamer that isn't as inclined as the more dedicated gamer to learn how to dogfight, which breeds a herd mentality (i.e. the hord) and will usually readily engage in head on situations to get a kill.
It's that type of decline of game play that I am speaking of, not a mine camp vs. your camp kind of thing.
ack-ack

I agree. Just think of all the problems having a score and rank system breeds. Shade accounts are the first thing that pops in my mind. Guys going to empty arenas and taking bases when no one from the opposing country is even logged on. People putting in 18 hours a day in the game just to bomb factories etc.,etc. :salute
-
I agree BaldEagl that what happened to you is very unfortunate. The bases should not automatically change sides when the war is won. I hope you only lost some of those perks and not all of them because it was a "disco" right?
i believe they change back to what they were when that particular map came up.
-
Yeah I don't want to step on any e-peens on here since I've only been playing about a month and a half. I like the game. I like all aspects of the game. Sometimes I sit on a carrier and just shell towns, or bombing an undefended town and other times I like furballin'. All I am saying is if some country won, great! Take the servers down at a predetermined time to change the map or something like that.
-
I agree with what most everyone has said, and I too have been hit by the "you're now at an enemy base" hammer. It does bite, but I get over it. I can't imagine it being very difficult to not have the base ownership change until the map changes and the server resets the arena. I mean, we're not even getting the same map after the reset, so what's the point in changing ownership at that moment?
From what I hear, once the map is won, ownership changes to what it will be the next time that map is used in the rotation. If that's true, then why do it the instant the map is won?
-

I understand your point of view ack-ack, but having been around since the towns were little and there were no drones attached to your Buffs, it seems remarkably the same with a few exceptions... I took about two years off and must have missed the "contest". I know from listening to some of my more talented squaddies that are usually top 5 in one category or another that scoring has become a bigger motovation than it once was... I personally hover around 300-500 pretty consistently, so being concerned with being #1 doesn't "rank" high on my list of concerns. There are those (some fly F-18s for non existant naval units) that are IMHO overly concerned with scoring, and will rant for hours on 200 if someone shoots them down! Ya gotta laugh!

Unless they've changed it ... you Don't lose Perks if your inflight during a reset .
The Country move was done due to " Reset corner " and is built into the game .

Problem is remaining in flight for those four minutes when the base underneath you suddenly reverts back to its previous owner while you are low slow, flaps and gear out, coming in for a post sortie landing.
I agree with the OP, very frustrating.
