I'm hoping to get the B-25B that's configured to launch from a CV.
From:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doolittle_Raid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doolittle_Raid)
On 1 April, the 16 modified bombers, their five-man crews and Army maintenance personnel, totalling 71 officers and 130 enlisted men,[15] were loaded onto USS Hornet at Alameda. Each aircraft carried four specially-constructed 500-pound (225 kg) bombs. Three of these were high-explosive munitions, and one was a bundle of incendiaries. The incendiaries were long tubes, wrapped together in order to be carried in the bomb bay, but designed to separate and scatter over a wide area after release. Five of these bombs had Japanese "friendship" medals wired to them - medals awarded by the Japanese government to U.S. servicemen before the war. [16] To decrease weight (and thus increase range), the bombers' armament was reduced. Each bomber launched with two .50-calibre (12.7 mm) machine guns in an upper turret and a .30-caliber (7.6 mm) machine gun in the nose. Two wooden, simulated gun barrels mounted in the tail cones were intended to discourage Japanese air attacks from that direction, and were cited afterward by Doolittle as being particularly effective.[9] The aircraft were clustered closely and tied down on the Hornet's flight deck in the order of their expected launch.

I'd like it as it would work very well in taking a town down especially for cruiser-less task groups.
:devil

I agree as long as it can only launch 170 miles before you intended to.
Then after you drop you have to ditch in enemy territory and not be heard from for months.
-
heh long time we didn't hear this one.
The loadout is the same than a TBM, and a TBM is faster :noid
you know what they say ? no field mod !
-
Whilst I recall hearing that HTC has said that they won't do this, I would nevertheless like to see it.
However, it would/should probably be perked, and even then it might be very difficult to take off from the CV (and don't forget that you probably wouldn't have any drones either).

I can get off the CV in fully loaded lancs, 24s, and 17s...I think someone can get off in a B25 ;)
-
The Doolittle raid happened because in early 1942 that was the only way we could get bombers in range Japan.
The raid was a one time deal more for moral purposes and shock value than anything else.
B-25s are never out of range of enemy bases in AH, there's no need to put them on CVs in the sim.
There's other carrier aircraft that would make a better addition to the sim than a CV capable B-25 like the B6N, D4Y, Sea Hurri, SB2C, Barracuda, or Firefly.
-
I would rather see a B25J with formations than the B25B.
-
they took all the guns out and put broom sticks in their place to save weight, no thanks lol.
-
I think if we needed the B25B model for a scenario... couldnt HCT allow us to launch from a CV. IIRC, they've done with it with other planes.
So... there is no benefit to adding the B25B to the game for MA use, imo.
-
Sure, a TBM is faster (by 1MPH?) and has the same load-out, but if that was the logic, then why do we have a hurri1 and spit1? It doesn't have to be always about better and faster planes, but if the Doolittle raid was a significant turning point in the war, it should nevertheless be honored and remembered by integrating the B-25B ingame.
Wouldn't it be awesome to commemorate the anniversary next year, April 12 with this mod? Imagine upping a B-25B mission, NOE to an enemy base. Just like how the Doolittle outfit did it!
And just to clear things up, I am not putting this wish thingy to the exclusion of your choice aircraft. The way I see it, the more choices we have in the game, the less boring it becomes. More maps, more planes, more GV's. AHII is a WWII immersion game, and completing the registry of weapons(at least major ones) would be awesome. The V1, V-2 rockets are also part of history, but judging by the aversion to new weapons this community has, I doubt it will be integrated.
And for what it's worth, those brooms in the rear would more than likely be enough to deter Shifty from getting on my six.
-
how about it's only available 1 day a year on the anniversary of the raid. Other wise its a . . . .NM
-

I disagree; certain very vocal individuals in the 'community' have such an aversion, however there is a far larger not-so-vocal group of people who would welcome the option of adding many new features and planes to the game.

The Doolittle Raid on Japan was a one time deal and was planned as a sneak attack but they were compromised before they reach their intended launch point because of Japanese picket ships. They still launched and had a successful mission in releasing their bombs over Japan but they still didn't have enough fuel to make it far enough into inland China where they could meet up with friendly forces in the area. Although some did make it to friendly forces not all of them did. I doubt HTC will add this version of the B-25 because it was not used multiple times during the war.
-
So, the only difference beside the B25B and the B25C is the armament...?
I think that we'll be fine continuing to run the Doolittle raids with B25C's.
-
well would be nice but there are better thing to up with than that...Hmmm.. Like a heavy corsair :rofl

Quite the contrary, at first, the Japanese people were thinking it was going to be yet another public display of Japanese military power, a 'show' so to speak.
The ack-ack gunners were in shock, scrambled to their guns, and shot piss-poorly.
They were almost spotted by a flight of japanese planes along the coast, but the "kamakazi" (Holy, or Protecting winds) storm with the low laying clouds covered them. It was quite lucky actually.
I think that on the anniversary of the attack, for one day, it should be enabled on CV's. One day a year, like the Christmas thing. :D
-
I agree with trigger and whiteman. 1 day a year!
-
the Doolittle raid was a significant turning point in the war
lol no it wasn't - it was a PR exercise for morale. if this gets in I want an extra option for the C47:
1. GV supplies
2. Field Supplies
3. 10 Troops
4. Vera Lynn/Glenn Miller (reduces downtime of troops/supplies by 50%)
:D

It shouldn't be perked because it shouldn't be added to the game. This wasn't a 'naval' variant of the B-25B, it was a one off deal for one mission and that's it and that alone should preclude it from being added to AH.
ack-ack

No, we are only advocating planes that will bring something to the game, you and your ilk on the other hand want to add any plane you see on the History Channel.
ack-ack

No... no... no... no...no...NO!!!!

Two things:
a) I don't watch the History Channel.
b) What do you have against me?

There is a Catch 22 comment in there somewhere.
I think much of it comes down to folks always wanting one more thing. We have the 25C and the 25H. Considering how few of us actually fly the things, adding another bird, for a one off mission where every last one was lost, seems silly. The argument is that it would help take the town down quicker by launching off the carriers off shore. Well that wasn't ever done for real, the Doolittle birds launched so far out they ran out of gas and ended up wrecked, ditched or interned. Is the guy who wants to launch his 25B 400 yards off shore, willing to instend launch 700 miles out? I kinda doubt it.
If you are a 25 fanatic, fly the 25C or H. There are enough birds the game could use long before the 25B. And if folks want to memorialize the Doolittle Raid once a year, the 25C looks just the same.

I agree with most of what you're saying, however I would like to add that IMO the more variety there is in this game, the better.
Also, my original post in this topic was based on the premise that adding a B-25B would require very little work, assuming that it is very similar to the B-25C (however here I have to agree with what you say about the -C looking like the B version).

No problem with variety. Just gotta remember that the Doolittle raid really is the only B25B mission. It was C's an D's to the MTO. C's and D's to the PTO. There just weren't that many B25Bs and in terms of combat flying, the Doolittle raid was it for the B model from everything I've read, or can find on it. There were a total of 119 B25Bs built and almost 4000 C/D models.
If you wanted to push for variety I think you'd be better served pushing for the Navy/Marine versions of the 25C/D or the later C/D with modified waist and tail positions.
Then again I think we're doing ok right now, but I'm a 25C strafer fan myself :)

that film by kermit was AWESOME!!
download time really was slow though, but worth the wait!!!
wish i was there for the scenario..
-
skribetm,
The film was not from a scenario.
Kermit came to myself and another CM with an idea. The three of us convinced the others to spend some time with us, allowing Kermit take after take after take. We spent hours, days, weeks, then he spent more weeks editing it.
Being CM's, we used the SEA and did all the set up per what he wanted and how he wanted it,
Kermit is working on another one now, based on BoB (Battle of Britian, but it is going to be much shorter.
