...Even if I loose both arms in an industrial accident and have to manage the stick with my teeth and the throttle with...well, you don't want to know. :D
Seriously folks, what is with this spate of quittings? Not enough action? I always find enough bandits and then some. Too many gangs and HOs? Look at it as a challenges to be overcome with strategy. Game become too easy?...Well gee chief, good for you!
Maybe try dogfighting in a Stuka...WITH the 1800 kilo bomb attached? (Honestly, game looks like it is fairly easy for Steve or Shawk, etc and you can't keep 'em out of the MA with a stick...I suspect the number of people for whom the game is actually too easy would fit in my living room.)

BnZs did you change your forum name from BnZ to BnZs? If so, why? If not, why not?

Would "Trotter" by chance be related to the William Trotter who wrote "Frozen Hell" (about the Finno-Russian war)?
If so, why? If not, why not?

From Library Journal
"This history is a well-balanced blend of narrative and analysis. Trotter's overt sympathy for the justice of Finland's cause does not blind him to the justified fear of Nazi Germany that led Russia to demand a buffer zone in front of Leningrad. Similarly, Trotter's admiration for the Finnish army's fighting power does not prevent him from presenting its limitations as well as achievements."
Fair enough.

Good book, enjoyed it a lot. The author is obviously sympathetic to the Finns but doesn't let that get in the way of the story -- and its an amazing underdog story. Worth the read....

Honestly, I think many are quitting due to real life issues. It's tough to justify an amount of time spent on a computer game when the mortgage isn't payed.
The others, well, many vets remember how it was. When there was honor and fun to be had by all. You know, you used to be able to rearm without constantly scanning for a single 190 diving down from 13K to vulch the rearm pad. I had three people try that in the past week alone.
People used to let damaged birds flap their way home.... now 5 guys are killshooting themselves to nail the one guy who's wrestling his joystick to keep it level.
The community used to police itself, and mold each newcomer into the honor code that was the game. That is long gone now.
I seriously wish HT would take away the kills announcement. So many of these new guys are just trying to get a "SYSTEM: IdiotMoron landed 3 kills", and not learn how to fly and fight.

Probably a lot of truth in what you are saying. I know time is a serious issue for me now. When I do get a bit of time to log in, it's easier to get frustrated quickly when your choices are up into the crowd and get clobbered, or spend your time grabbing from a further base and use up much of that time. And I would agree that for many, any kill, regardless of how it's made is more important than any kind of challenge in a fight. I had the same guy hovering over the fight last night, pick me 3-4 times and each time I was in with a couple of baddies at the time. I never saw him even co-alt. He landed lots of kills of course :)
Bottom line is it's still my problem to find the fun. But I think a lot of vets are having a harder time finding that fun, for the reasons stated.

I'm kinda hoping they do a sub special for the 'bad economy'. Maybe lower the price for 6 month subs to a much better rate than what it is now?
THAT would keep them coming. :)

Time is a factor. That's why I liked playing in the free 8 player arena. You usually had a choice of either a small 2 country base capture map or a 1 country free-for-all furball map (instant action). Unlimited ammo, fuel..... No rules, anything goes and no score. What fun "games" those were. Had a lot a friends there, most were Aussies and New Zealanders. I usually play at 3:00 a.m. CST. Most of them didn't make it over to the MA cause of slow connections. Anyway it would be cool if some sort of arena could be set up similar to the old 8 player option. Paying for it isn't problem either.

Well, you're in luck. :aok
We want to bring back the old 8 player H2H but expand it both in the number of players and with additional gameplay capabilities.

Sure sounds great. Then when HTC reverts the fee to its true rate, 48% of the playerbase will say that he is for the biggest rate increase in history [/politicsoff]
MORAY, you are right, but also in a sense the fact that the community is diluted by ACM dullards makes the bond between those who know how to fight that much stronger. I have no evidence to back this theory, as half the "good" pilots I fight will either PM or 200 smack talk me afterwards, but I like to believe the capacity for comraderie is there. In the old AvA I fought batfink once F6F to Ki84, fight went on for more than 5 minutes until I was oil leaked and out of E. Batfink's F6F slid behind me for what I thought was the final blow, until he held his guns and pulled alongside, wagged his wings and escorted me home. Me and him did not know each other ingame at all, but the fight alone generated the respect that he gave. I'd like to think that capacity for respect is still there among the ACM playerbase.

Last evening, BnZ and I flew a series of duels in P-47s. I have to complement him on how far he has come in a relatively short time. BnZ is a formidable Jug pilot. <S> Bud! It was great fun.

I fly the night shift of most here so I find that I can find a good fight(for my ability) most of the time. For this I am grateful as it has helped me out with learning. When I do venture out during the bulk prime time I find that I get face shots quite a lot. In saying this I have also found that in general with most sticks if the first pass is an attempted face shot and I don't bear arms (and survive) then a good fight follows. I sometimes get frustrated and have a little bleet on 200, but then I have to sit back and think well that is what is out there I will just continue with how I go about things, adapt and try to overcome. From this I find that my next meeting, on occasions ends up a cold guns merge (not always).
Hmmmm I have just sat back and read this and man I go on. Basically it is us as individuals that have to change the mentality. Berating a relative newcomer constantly without some form of help just adds to the Kaos. I know if I see a team mate who is newer than myself merging in a manor that will cause grief I will chat and say maybe try this next time, much the same as if there is too many guys on one con. This is because I was helped in this way so I feel it to be as pay it forward type of thing.

<S> and thanks for the kind words Wide, but I know I'm not so hot. And it was just basic-training type low-altitude stick-honking fighting, not something a little more advanced and realistic like E-fighting Messerschmidts up in the flight levels. I wouldn't have stood snowball's chance against you if you had been flying any kind of 109 I don't think.

Had that last night in the Midwar. Didn't want to waste what time I had climbing from a further base but wasn't having much luck against NKL5 and AKAK orbiting the field. Was worth it when I could get a couple thousand feet away from the field to at least get a few good merges. Had a lot of fun against someone that was probably more on my skill level named badazz or something like that.

At ~2500fpm or more it takes less than 5 minutes to get to 10k ft. It sucks when life doesn't give you time for recreation, but if you have time to log in don't you have 5 minutes to get some altitude? What's more, if you do get some altitude in order not to be instantly ganged or picked, you'll spend less time climbing out in the long run because your sorties will last longer. Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to be a jerk. If little time for recreation causes you to fret over the time it takes to get some altitude, you might actually save time in the long run by spending an extra 5 minutes to do it.

Not sure how old you are.. And please don't take this the wrong way...
Many of us have other responsibilities that only allows us to use a rather small
chunk of time for recreation before reality kicks back in..
For some people, 5 minutes is 5 minutes.. It takes away from the 1 hour (more or less)
that one would have time to play.. Taking 5 minutes to climb to an altitude where
you'll still have others diving on you is pointless for the most part I believe..
All that does is set you up to run and probably get caught by 5 other guys above you,
or try to fight those 5 guys while they gang-rape you..

You can check my age on my profile page. Again, my point is that 5 minutes climbout can save more than 5 minutes later on.

Furball lake is a pretty good solution to the low-time, want a quickie situation. It gets bad rap, but I find you can throw yourself off the 5K cliff and scoot to where the planes are in less than minute. Now, you WILL get gang-picked to death more often than not, but you can usually get some fast-paced t'n'b style fighting in first.

My results from spending 5 minutes to climb to a reasonable altitude are different from yours, that's all.

What is your flying style Gavagai? We generally dive into the red against overwhelming odds, and as a result spend more time in transit because we die often. If your flying style is different and you get more time in the air, that's fine. We just enjoy different things.
-
Yeah, I was just trying to be helpful. I try to look for fights where neither side is clubbing the other, e.g. the fight is somewhere in the middle of the two opposing airfields, though sometimes I end up on either side of that equation. As for flying style, I'm usually in some kind of 109, like the K or the G-6, so I make use of its climb and try to get to above 10k ft before I go looking for trouble. I can be fairly cautious early on in a sortie just because I don't want to get into trouble and have to go climb out again, but once I've got a few kills or have burned through some gas I get lower and get more aggressive. For my part, I'd much rather get shot down with 25% gas than with 75%.

Just call out over 200, to meet you somewhere at some alt and you can punk me up and down for a while or donate 38G parts to the landscape corky, NP

Been a victim of killshooter now 3 times in 1 day, it usally takes me a while to get into a killing shot position as I'm still learning the 109, so just as I have the guy saddled up along comes a crate whizzing by me and flying in front as I squeeze the trigger, really annoying to be honest, takes me a lot of work and then it's gone in a flash and I'm nursing a sick bird home due to killshooter.
But that's been when I'm around on the deck and at that alt then it's normally a free for all anyway, so what can you do? I know what I would like to say on range channel but that would probably get me muted......

Good memory! You earnt the respect in the fight. I just remember thinking (on many occasions) 'This guy earnt a chance to make it home'. In the MA very rarely does a fight develope where a player can earn that respect in the fight and thus be granted it on losing.
