if all of those of you that insist on pushing a ceritain persons buttons are thinking very far ahead?
we all come here for our own reasons. some for a laugh(lowzx14 made me think of this just now), some to learn, some just to chat on the bbs, about the game, and about things in the world. regardless of why we're here, we're all guests. period.
the problem here, is that there were some new rules made. in hindsight, we brought these rules on ourselves, because we couldn't hold conversations on certain subjects like grown adults.
some are posting topics, and when they get locked, they wonder why. some post, knowing they will get locked, and laugh.
well.......it almost seems as if the fuse is almost burned out. we're probably gonna lose these boards, if you guys keep it up. is that what you really want? i know i don't. i learn in here, as i'm sure many of you do. they serve for good humor(sometimes) while on lunchbreak(like right now). there's some good ideas shared in here too.
what it comes down to, is before you post something you KNOW is gonna piss off a mod, put yourself in his shoes, and decide what YOU'd think about it. and don't forget(for those that just think he's bein an arse) it's most likely not his descision on what to lock, and who to suspend. this stuff probably comes from higher up.
i;m not innocent of stirring on occasion, but i do know when to back off too, and i think we may need to.
not trying to soudn self rightious or anything, but i enjoy these boards, and don't want to see em go away.

I seriously doubt that they'd kill their forums just to spite a few people they could easily ban, or by adding an ignore feature. This isn't life or death, it's a gaming forum. Anyone getting too butthurt over it, or cancelling their accounts because someone made fun of them, wasn't going to stick around very long anyway. They should focus more on updates and so forth, so that people are more inclined to actually play the game than talk about it, which seems to be the situation at present.
-
Except for one problem hubs.
When the new player comes to this pig-piling stye, you think they are all hot to trot to jump in?
This attitude about the player having to be able to take abuse or it is their fault is nothing more than people not being able to accept responsibility for thier own actions.
This game is supposed to be about having fun.
And you are right, we will not shut down the forums, but there are days I wish it was closed so I could get more work done, on other things, as opposed to having to babysit it.

i understand that, it just seems that there's been a need lately for them to keep an eye on this place, which i think would take away from their being able to work on more important things.

I see that a lot of them are. And I'm not saying that we should be able to attack any and all new players at will, but those who go to lengths to seek attention, should be prepared when they get it. Did any of you folks log in to the MAs around the election? This isn't Disneyland anymore.

I see your point CAP and Skuzzy. We are a little quick to dog pile on people and poke fun at them or take it to an extreme.
The post I made earlier was meant to draw some laughter. I wasn't trying to belittle or berate or keep poking the fire, it was just meant to make people lighten up a little and laugh. The object/subject of my post could just have easily posted some goofy picture up there and said something about me, and you know what I would have done? I would have laughed as long as they said it was all in fun. If something is posted in a malicious manner I can see the reason for getting rid of it, but when the OP says that it's a joke and we have to worry about people getting upset over something as stupid as a little picture, then the mood is just so somber that nobody is having any fun. I normally have fun reading the bbs and even some of the spirited debates. As I said on my former squad's forums a little while back, as long as you have 2 or more people expressing their opinions, especially of one another, you will always have arguments and fights.
Now I do understand that some of the behavior would turn off would be players and that we should be promoting the game and community in a good light. However, I have seen very few people that have posted that they joined the game because of what they read about it on the forums. I'm willing to bet that most players join from either advertisement or word of mouth. I can see where it would cause someone who just joined to not want to play anymore.
Actually what is put on the bbs wouldn't make me quit, it would make me quit reading the bbs. However, if someone said something in game, then I would be more inclined to either ignore them or find somewhere else to spend my money. But, once again, I'm just here as a guest as this is not my site, and will try to abide by all of the rules from now on. I appreciate the work you guys do, and the chance to have a place where the community can come together and communicate.

Gotta spit shine the game and BBS for the big Holiday marketing push starting next week :noid

Yea and participating in the forums is entirely optional. People who cancel their accounts over the slightest dispute seem to be highly instable individuals anyways. What pulling the trigger on your stick has to do with someone disliking you on the forums is beyond me.

hey low.....wasn't taking a shot at your post. i thought it was funny, and the things i said there while eating were meant in jest.
i only mentioned your post due to your reply to me....about comming here for a good laugh.

like i said...i generally enjoy reading here. i;m also glad skuzzy mentioned they won't close it down.

I vote: close the boards.
They are a waste of time. Nobody ever bothers to understand or try's to comprehend what you post here. I'd say 85% of the threads I have started, some "General Blowhard" logs in and works incredibly hard trying to "NOT" understand even the basic concept I am stating, much less the fine points of what I am saying. I say shut it down!

Yea, shut the boards down because your threads haven't turned out well...
Don't think you realize that squads have private forums on here... If the forums don't suit you then stop posting here instead of making ludicrous requests.

YES, but SAPP has equipped the p38's with only the highest quality of blenders.

It has nothing to do with my threads. It happens in everyones threads. I just used myself as an example because I could give a good estimate of the number. In my experience many posters put more energy into not understanding what the post is saying then seeing the persons point. Your post is fine example of this. Instead of discussing comprehension, you mention private boards. Instead of discussing a lack of understanding, you tell me to leave. In 3 sentences you make my point pretty clearly.
The reason I think they should be closed is because of one simple sentence I read today from skuzzy. Where he stated that: he could be doing other things instead of baby sitting the BBS ....that's pretty powerful testimony counselor.
So unless you are willing to pay the salary for a new employee to take over this burden, then HTC will continue to waste resources on the BBS, when maybe they could work on new Toys for us to play with. I'd trade this board and everthing that goes with it if it meant more improvements.
Private boards are squad issues. Little or no work load for HTC. Squads can boot players for nonsense. So have all the fun you want. Better yet run your own board! I did it for years.

Gonna disagree with ya on this one Helm. One of the best parts of the boards are when folks are sharing information, whether it be on how to 'fly' in AH, or talking history of aircraft, pilots etc. I think there are a lot of folks who try and bring some fun to the boards as well. I'd like to think I've tried as have a lot of others with joking about how we fly, how to 'land' 38s or whatever silliness we find.
I'd like to believe that those kinds of posts far outweigh the negative stuff.
-

Your post was ludicrous. Plain and simple. Your vote to shut down the forums because they're a waste of time when we have thousands of important posts and not to mention private squad forums. You say people go out of their way to not understand what peoples posts are saying.. practise what you preach then. Personally I disagree but if you're going to exaggerate then don't be a hypocrite at least.
Also the forums arent just a recent batch of general section threads... have you even looked at the other sections?
-

Here's the proof! Them blenders are on fire!

Don't wanna be that guy, but if AHGD closed down, I bet this would dramatically decrease.

I enjoy reading your posts. The reason is because you actually to take the time to understand what the other person is saying. Then you have the intelligence to actually discuss the issue. Negative stuff does not bother me at all. It's the lack of understanding between players points of view in the discussions that seems to be a waste of time.
There are many good points to the BBS. I am actually a big fans of many folks writing on these boards. You, widewing and many others really discuss the issues. Sadly most discussions are people talking "AT" each other rather then talking "TO" each other. To me that is a waste of time.

Unfortunately, we need the forums to encourage what community we have to flourish. There is too much gamer mentality with a complete lack of regard for history in here and without the forums and scenarios, this game would be a lot less satisfying to many of us.
Keep the forums, just use the temporary and permanent ban-stick more often.
-
I don't like your tie.
It's dusty...... been hanging on the coatrack for years.... :)

... when we have thousands of important posts...
Unfortunately, even important discussions become so bloated with extraneous BS that they are almost impossible to read. I used to link posts with useful information from netaces. I provided a general table of contents making it easy to find threads about most common subjects. Unfortunately, almost every thread now becomes so full of conflicting information and purse fights about who is right or wrong on something, I decided it's not worth doing it.
If what you are about to post has already been said or isn't making a contribution to the game or the community, it probably isn't worth posting.

Hammer

i actually find about the same amount of good threads, as bad ones. it's human nature though, to remember things that bother ya more than anything though.
the boards shouldn't be closed. i was glad to see skuzzys post saying that. on the other hand, though, there has to be some way that we can police ourselves, so these guys can go back to development.
not only that, but if the "button pushers" would knock it off, we probably would be once again given the chance to discuss some of the banned topics.
i find nice info in here. a lot of humor too.

those are the kinds of posts that some of us like. sometimes, even if it's stuff that you've previously posted, it's not a waste of time. it may get seen by those that've not seen it before.
i enjoy WW's posts, although i find myself going to read the ones that interest me more than once, so as to digest all the info.

from the perspective of someone who has gotten piled upon in these forums, me :D
i know it takes all kinds to make the world go round, it would be a pretty damn boring world if every one thought just like me, i never once thought about quitting these forums
i certainly don't come here to learn, not saying that there are not learned individuales here, but...
i come here because i truly (hate to say it)love Aces High, and yes there are many very cool people here in the forums, that i respect there opinions even if they are not my own
but ST lost out by leaving, he should have stuck it out. to quit over what took place just seems silly, but again it takes all kinds, i have a feeling he will be back, these time much more under the radar.

This game is very supportive of new people. The materials to learn the game are very good, folks bend over backwards to help in the forums, tech help, game help, anykinda help. The trainers are excellent and available. The squadrons are many, supportive, and outstanding. The boards kinda sorta polices its ownself.......sorta.
Sorry, but I dont buy the game or the people chase new people away. The occasional two week shade maybe. But generally?? The assets and support are available to get up to speed even during the two week trial and the forum is a big part of it. I know some good people helped me a lot.

It's ok to disagree, if people could just keep it civil as if they were in the same room as the other person it wouldn't be too bad.
after all this is just a game.

correct. if we kept it civil here, then the forbidden topics would not have been forbidden in the first place.....and quite possibly we may be able to have serious discussions on said topics in the future.
disagree on the "just a game" though. it(as stated in another thread) is my escape from reality, even if only for a few moments at a time.
