Title: Your greatest fight in AH
Post by: Gwjr2 on December 03, 2008, 11:18:56 AM
After looking at the 3 on 1 post got to thinking about a few fights that were my personal best.

One that sticks out was a blast in a FM2, a few of the old squaddies were holed up in a VH in and in danger of being stomped by an 110 with 2 nik escorts for CAP. This was the most amazing fight Ive ever had 1 on 3.

Out gunned, numbered and on a what the h#ll run I got there just in time to take out the 110, then for the next 5 Min's of reversing and baiting (a move Furball taught me) I was able to knock down the 2 N1k's.

As i taxied to the VH the engine sputtered, coughed and quit no gas, but had 3 in the bag. Right there after that flight was when the light clicked if you put the basics together it could work (allthough a lot of luck helps too).

So what was your most memorable flight?

Well the one that has been sticking out in my head is.  I upped a 109 (which I never use) to intercept the rook bombing mission.  Climbed for like 15-20 minutes to 25-30k and started searching for bombers.

Low and be hold I find a straggler.  I spend the next 10 minutes setting up to get a nice wing root shot or something close.

It was nice and quite,  just him and I....  I start to close the distance...  His plane has not even twitched an inch.  I thought great...  This is going to be easy.

As soon as I am 400 out my finger starts to depress the trigger....  and...  !!!BANG!!!  his rear gunner killed my engine in two maybe three shots.

So I float down for 10 minutes and land.  I was to say the least disappointed.

You know though,  I was pretty immersed and my blood was pumping during the set up.  Just wish I would've won that match up.

My first adrenaline pumper in Aces High was with Baldeagl.  I was RTB low fuel from dropping ords on a troubling V base.  I was around 3-5k feet and stretching the fuel in my Hellcat.  I saw no red dar, so stupid me got up to get some munchies.  I was gone for no more than a minute and I pull the headphones back on to hear my squaddie UH60A hollering "Way watch that 190!"  Now the blood is flowing...  I cranked up my RPM's and throttle and turned up into him.  I got him to blow his first pass so I figured I have very little fuel so I have to convince him to turn with me.  Which he did.  It went back and forth round and round, up and down for a good 4-5 minutes.  Both of us landed some hits, but no kill shots.  I was actually 2-3 notches of flaps at times trying to husband my gas and keep it slow and inside his radius.  Well the next thing you know I hear the sound we all hate.  Nothing, as my engine runs outta gas and spins down.  I nosed down going for a ditch.  I was gonna land it, but I thought that this fellow (whoever he is) deserves the kill.  He agreed (LOL) because the last thing I saw before the tower was a 190 bearing down on my position guns blazing...

theres one for me that stands out, a fight in the DA.. Me, trundling along in my hurri when 7 rooks closed in on me... Went on the offensive and managed to bag 4 before I ran outa ammo (im a rubbish shot), dove to the deck looking for an escape route with the remaing 3 (a spit, a p38 and something else) on my tail, twisting, turning, scissoring and runing for my life, deseratly dodging bullets. For a moment I thought I might make it to some kinda safety untill I began to run out of control surfaces and I got chewed up...Hitech(THE hitech? surely not?) got the kill eventually. I was buzzing off the adrenaline afterwards, even tho I know I made a lot of mistakes and was probably lucky to do as well as I did, and I was blessed that the hurricane can soak up such punishment and dish it out so well!

i dunno how great it is, but I find it somehow oddly satisfying to be made to look like a complete idiot acm-wise... (greebo has done it to me most recently -- co alt nik vs f6f --  1 turn I'm dead.   :uhoh   "wha happen?!?"

A while back it was me against 6 109's in the AVA when they first switched it over from the old CT arena.

I was in a Hurri 1 climbing out from my base when I spotted two 109's co-alt and coming in fast. I dove under them and after several reversals we were on the deck. By the way they flew I knew they were coordinated so I worked at getting both of them out in front of me at the same time. At this time I spotted another pair of 109's inbound, and thought to myself, well I'll be in the tower shortly.

I gained the six of one 109 while his partner worked to get on my six and the other two closed in. Got within 200, turned on the sawzall, and the 109's wing departed the airframe. The second 109 was now closing on my six and I dumped my nose, stalled my engine, and forced the overshoot. I pulled the nose up as he passed over me and managed to remove half of his wing. As he fought to regain control of his aircraft I removed half of his other wing. In he went, two down, two to go. At this point I was amazed that I had not only survived, but that I'd gotten two kills.

I was low and slow as the second pair came in. Thankfully they weren't as coordinated as the previous pair so I quickly managed to get them in front of me where I could work on gaining their six.  I'd been taught early on to aim small, ie: don't aim at the whole airplane, but at a piece of the airplane, such as a wing root or the canopy. The third 109 died in a crossing shot when I filled his cockpit with lead from 8 303's.

I believe at this time the 4th 109 pilot was getting a bit concerned as he seemed rather cautious in his subsequent attacks. As I moved in to work on him I spotted two more 109's inbound, most likely the first pair of pilots I'd encountered returning for revenge. I gained the 109's six and removed a wing with my little sawzall just as the fifth 109 pilot dove in on me. I jinked right, he overshot, and lawndarted. I jinked left to dodge his partner and slammed into a freaking tree.

I had to get up and walk away from my computer I was shaking so bad from the adrenalin. I've had some other memorable fights since then, but this one stands out in my mind as the best one.

SADS vs myself.   I still mention it to him every now and then and he remembers.    Class fight, class guy and not a single excuse.   He shot me down to boot.

<<S>> Sads, I wish you flew more than you used too.

Cant recall on that I havent posted about yet.. A good string of fights were winged up with Urchin, him in 205, me in 202. I think the best of these that we did tallied about 17-20 each.

I was in a pony vs. pony fight last summer. I upped and started climbing. I got to about 15k I guess and this other pony showed up on radar. We moved to engage each other and we got into a turning fight. We were on the verge of stalling out, with 50% flaps at times. I managed to get a few hits on his wing before he misjudged his altitude and crashed into a mountain side. We saluted each other and went on our way. Another fight I like to recall is when I went searching for bombers in my F4U-1A. I flew across the ocean on the map that I was playing on and I found a formation of 3 B-17s. I proceeded to shoot them down in a conservative, smart manner and I returned to base with three kills and no damage.

Recently, Soulyss and I had a nice Spit1 vs 38 fight. Far back...I was in a Spit16 vs P40D40...me in the D40. Was a stall fight and I had my gear out the whole time bouncing off the ground. In the end we both actually ran out of gas.

mine almost all happened in the DA vs Creton or Nomak.  The one from the AM that stands out was against RumbleB(ki84) with me in a K4 (may of been G14)...quite a fight and surprised it was allowed to go on.

Can't recall the name but I had a great fight versus a Spit16 in my 190A5 one day defedning a base.  Was a looong 1v1 that came down to a collision (was very surprised the other guy didnt fire on the Head on before we rammed each other).  The fight lasted almost 6 minutes on my X52 timer.  (And NO it was NOT a BnZ fight either.  It was a low and slow TnB, flaps, throttle, whole shebang.)

had many great fights but one always sticks out in my mind was against eagler's 109f4,

My spit9 usually laughs in the face of 109's but this one was well flown,  we started by both getting snapshots at the start of the fight his oil, my remaining fuel tank,    As we went around each other a couple of times both of our engines quit around the same time and we floated a good 5k to deck still fighting until my spit gracefully pulled out at the bottom and his 109 had to ditch   :D

I somehow ended up behind a noe 110 mission whilst in a tiffie.

I simply flew flat out through the group and took out 3 110's and 2 goons before departing ahead of them.

There have been so many its hard to remember.

Like the time 2 squadies got jumped by 4 enemys, I arrrived just in time to see the last squadie die, leaving me with 4 enemy's. I made it back home and they didn't, but I couldn't tell you how I did it.

Or the time I made a fighter sweep over an enemy base, and ended up with 4 air to air kills, then added 5 vulches to that score in a c.205 before returning home to land, out of fuel, ammo, but with a big grin.

Or the quick sortie yesterday where I upped an A6m5 in midwar, had a couple of quick tussles with a pretty good pilot. Some verbal sparring to go along with the action, and returned to land a pair of kills. Just in time to see my respected opponent land 3 kills. <S> btw

Or the night I got a 5 kill sortie in an FSO frame. 3 GV's and a pair of air to air kills all on a single loadout without reloading in the Yak9t.

Its a long long list, and I have much to be thank full for.  <S>

best fight was with my squaddie, hamblue, in AVA.  I was in a 109 and he was in a spit.  he got on my six and took out my tail. The result was my 109 flip around and a took a shot at his spit, he when poof.  lol. he thought i came down on his six at the time he took out the 109, which was me, but had no idea it was me in the 109.

I've had many great fights, many that I have lost too lol. The best sortie I had was probably when I was flying the YakT - I end up getting about 10 kills in one sortie, which is something I haven't been able to do since then mind you lol.

I haven't played in about three, almost four months and I deleted most of my films without even looking at them but managed to keep at least two since they were titled 'vs'.  One fight was with Red959 in his 109; That was great fight, then the other was against AirFool in his 109 (that started off at him vs me then it end up 2 vs 2) which again was great fight.

I look forward to returning to the game, even fighting and dying against LAs  :lol

Getting  good fight in the MA is harder and harder to find, you either come accross the usual spit 16's who gang you then proclaim the uber flying skills to one and all, or you get bounced by some dudes in perk planes.

Sad but true. Today I was fighting a spit16,La7 and IL2 with a seafire and every single time they went for the ho shot. And when i'd saddleup on one of them, they'd run straight to ack.I'd break off, they'd turn around, and we would do it all over again. I gave Lucine 3 or 4 kills because I tryed my damnedest to avoid the Ho shots, but he went out of his way to go for the ho.And this is a guy that should know some ACM by now. Once I got him 1 on 1 he easy pickens  :D

Hard to pin down the most memorable fight but here is one that was fairly recent that I will remember for a long time.

A squaddie and I decided to go to a base that appeared to have a nice furball close to it, only to find that all the friendlies disappeared or got killed just as we were arriving. As we got closer we realilze that not only are we alone but there are almost 15 air cons of varied type and alt. After about 2-3 minutes of constant maneuvering I get 1 proxy and squaddie gets a couple of kills too. In the end we both made the quick trip to the tower (aka died). It was lots of fun though and I do not for 1 mintue wish we had not stayed.

Here is a copy of the film though.

Greatest fight wasn't really a fight... for them.

I was in a P-47D25, first time I had flown the thing in a long time. Got ganged by 8 planes, shot down 7. Was pulling to the 8th one when I augered. I had just a plain wing on my left. No Aileron or flaps. No flaps on the other side. 5 of my 8 guns jammed. Pilot Wounded, engine oil out, Fuel leak... I was a mess...

Happened sometime back between June and July. Was great :)

There has been so many over the years that its hard to find one that sticks out.

Top spot would prolly go to one of the scenarios where i was in a G14 as scout and after reporting the HUGE buff formation with escort i was running out of game time so i entered the fight. Never expecting to survive i actually did and landed my 109 with more holes than i could count and a dead engine. I belive i got 4 bombers and 2 p51s plus a love for the G14.

I've had some great fights the best ones are when your never expecting them i remember a series of great k4 fights in ma with platano i was upping from a heavily capped field and spotted a k4 not joining in with the vulchfest and made a beeline for him once we were a bit away from the field he slowed down and let me climb up too his 6. At this stage i was thinking easy meat  :lol I caught on pretty fast from the way he started flying he was no amatuer  :rofl then we went into rolling scissors for like 5 mins gradually losing alt after that fight we met up for about 6 or 7 more away from the main fight and if anyone jumped in the other disengaged. Plats a great stick with an excellant attitude  :salute
More recently the fight againest blshar k4 v p38 was of truely epic proportions really got the adrenaline going  :D grea stick and one of the nicest guys you'll meet  :salute

those were fun grizz S!, too many night like that to remember. I think my most enjoyable fights have mostly come from dueling friends in the DA. Some from the MA get lost in time. One i do remember well is my p47 vs Vudak's 109, a long time back. It was the first time we met in the game and ended with repeat fights in the da for the hell of it. Nothing could be the greatest though, as that would only take away from all the other great fights.

today in LWO. i was defending a base in an il2, had an M3 in town, and couldn't quiet get there in time... anyway, RT Bish horde took base, and i got into a fight with a spitfire (Wingnutt, <S> sir, nice flyin btw) and saw an FM2 jump in, i reversed Wingnutt, came around for the Fm2, and sure enough back came wing. they both saddled up my 6, i dumped full flaps, pull into a barrel roll, watch em fly under me, i come down and see 2 cons right in front of me. couldnt pop em though...saw a F4U1D come screamin in...had to make him overshoot...same deal, full flaps and barrel roll. lost sight of wing for a moment, and he came in and popped me. <S> Wing, FM2 and F4U1D, fun fight!

Yesterday in MWP, got into a fight with a P51B, got his 6, and a p38 came in, reversed 38, another rook came and popped the 38, then the P51. P51 was Steel. Steel and i met again bout 3 minutes later, got low and slow 1-1, finally he gave me a nice big profile;finished him there. <S> Steel, another fun fight sir.

Bumped into DanoDano whilst flying an F4U-4, and he was in a Tempest. After a sweat drenched 4 or 5 minutes where we actually gained alt, I landed a canopy snapshot and got a very gracious salute. I was then bounced by 4 (good) guys who'd upped to help Dano. They slowly dragged me down to the deck and I picked them off one by one, all the while being given PMed warnings and hints from Dano about my gangers intentions. I've never been on my game to that extent ever since. Not have I ever received that kind of old school consideration since. Dano could have picked me at any time.

One of the best/most intense fights I can still remember was my War Mission #7 on 08-Oct-2002:

http://www.virtualpilots.fi/LLv34/dbman/db.cgi?db=ah&uid=default&view_records=1&name=BlauKreuz&ww=1&stamp=%3E1&sb1=3&so1=descend&sb2=4&so2=descend (http://www.virtualpilots.fi/LLv34/dbman/db.cgi?db=ah&uid=default&view_records=1&name=BlauKreuz&ww=1&stamp=%3E1&sb1=3&so1=descend&sb2=4&so2=descend)

Wmaker, Camouflage and Snefens who were flying that same mission seem to agree in their reports :) (small red links)

What made it memorable was that while in fight we were almost sure none of us would make it back home, but in the end we all did rtb.

There have been so many great 1v1's that I can't mention tham all as I would miss someone I'm sure.

2 big finds that stick out tho...

BatfinkV and I were winging one night in HurriIIc's and had a brand new 2 day squaddie with us in a spit. We were headed to a base and ran into 12 Tempests and a NIK. Our new squaddie died first pass. (Hoing a tempy is NOT smart)....meanwhile Batfink and I killed 11 of the 12 Tempests and the NIK and the temp that got away was smoking.

SYSTEM: BatfinkV landed 7 victories in a HurriIIc of 71 Squadron RAF Eagles
SYSTEM: RedTop landed 5 victories in a HurriIIc of 71 Squadron RAF Eagles

Another was when Batfink and I were RTB from a fight...both having a couple or more pelts. We were in D40's and were low on fuel not ammo. Our Base was flashing and we decided to check before landing. Low and behold we came across an NOE 109 raid. There were about 15 109's. We killed all of them except for 2 or 3. I can't even remember the kill totals....all I know is we were both banged up...zeroed out on ammo counters and barley landing on fumes when we finally did.

I've fought the best pilots in the game....and lost almost everytime. Alot of them though were some of the best fights ever even tho I lost.

I second that! He was a beast in that K4! I have had some excellent fights it's almost impossible for me to narrow it down to a few!
Some of my best however have been against both Agent360 and Airfool, but the one that sticks out was a 15 min duel Vs. AirFool Him in a 109F4 and ME in my Emil 'O Doom form about 10K all the way down to flying to under tree canopies and in between the blades of windmills! what a fight! the Little brother (Emil) Prevailed over its newer sibling but not without much struggle!

yaknow?

i didn't have an answer to this one. look in the midwar arena thread. it wasn't long, or very special, but it was me in a 38G vs snaphook in an SBD. i lost, for all intents and purposes, but i won at the same time. i managed to limp my crippled 38 back to the runway, and almost crashed on landing from the PW.
what made this fight memorable, was hte 20 minutes of chat on open channel afterwards. snap, very nicely, took that time to explain to me what i could've done differently, how he managed to get me the way he did, and never once put me down, or trash talked me. THAT made that a memorable fight.

some that really stand out is:

  • a KOTH final round fight in C202's vs ManeTMP
  • a fight while I was winging with NB ( NoBaddy ) me in a F4U , NB in a C205 and we were fighting NathBDP in a 109G series & couple others if I remember correctly
  • winging with DmdDano in the 2vs2 dueling ladder that sourkruat(<--spelling) used to host for the Aces High community
  • fighting Balsy's F6F while I was in a F4U-1 on the mandanoa map
  • whole bunch of fights flying with Damned Squadmates in numerous scenarios/FSO's/regular arenas

I am sure their will be many many more great fights to come and fill my memorys..........

Right when the updated F4Us first came out we got into a pretty good, very tense looping fight my 1A vs your 1D. Flap dumping, rudder flops, a couple extensions out to around 800yds or so to look each other over. Surprised the hell out of me when I finally got that one good shot in and saw who it was.

Had kind of a funny fight about 3 camps ago. I was in an F4U over our radarless cv looking down for bombers. Just circling and circling. Darn me I almost ran smack dab into another enemy F4U4 looking down for uppers. He was less than 2k away. We must have seen each other about the same time. We got into then! Yanking those sticks diving, Skidding. Doing zero G ACMs. I pinged him a hair but not enough to take him out. Apparently the puffy ack got him. Puffy ack loves perk planes. Heck my own puffy ack about took my perk ride out. If I recall correctly I believe it was Nicet.

:rofl That was classic! I augered near the runway avoiding one of the last critters. you made it down with at least 6.

Best 1 on 1 I had was a few years ago, one of the first times I flew the '51B. One of the Finns (I've flown beside and against him many times, but his names eluding me) caught me in his 109G2 in a climb out to sea, and we commenced to zoom, turn, merge, dive, and repeat for about ten minutes. He got me in the end, but I got to try out just about every trick in my book in a plane that ended up being one of my favorites, and I also got to see what a 109 was really capable of in the hands of a pro. I wish I still had the film, I did for a long time but lost it when I had to reset my seystem a month or so ago.

I had one while escorting bombers in a mustang, against another mustang. We were evenly matched and the fight went on for minutes from 23000' to the deck where I eventually got a snapshot of his wing on deflection, this after both of us both won and lost advantage numerous times. Afterwards there was a <S> on 200 and a gentlemanly discussion of the fight. I forget his name but he was a great guy.

Those are my best fights. 1 on 1s with folks who know how to talk to each other and show respect. Some of these clowns on 200 talk like pimped out gangsta wannabees.

Best fights I've had are with Coprhead (5.0) in his P40 and me in a Mossie.  We prearrange to meet in a quiet place and we go at it.  I love turn fighting him in this match up.  It makes for some really long tough fights.

I've also dueled him while he flew the P51 and I flew a mossie.  Oddly enough I win these fights more often.

Coprhead... Where are you bud? You haven't flow for a while.  Hope I seen you soon.
