Title: The Classless Sooners
Post by: CAVPFCDD on December 08, 2008, 11:51:57 AM
I am a die hard Gator fan and can't wait for them to be national champs, and there is nothing more I'd like to see than them running up the score on OU.

That was the worst display of sportsmanship i have ever seen in my life. The Sooners deliberatly ran up the score so they could A. Hopefully get the #1 bcs standing and B. Score 60 points to get a record for most 60 point games or something like that.

In the 4th quarter with around 2 or 3 minutes to go they have their heisman candidate throwing bombs? I mean come on, that is just classess and I hope that not only as a gator fan, but as a fan of sports that florida juts runs the score up on them for such a tasteless showing against missouri.

I don't care if you're a sooner fan, you should be dissapointed too, that was just wrong, I was just foaming at the mouth watching that game.

GO GATORS

Don't worry there notorious for choking in Bowl Games... WVU Routed them in the last Fiesta Bowl 48-28.

OU is 2-4 in BCS bowl games...They are 4-5 under Bob Stoops in bowl game appearances. Given those odds and the BCS appearances they have had for the last two seasons I would bet on Florida winning...BUT I need some more time now to take a look at the game up close and personal.

Well, let's not go too far here. I actually am a student at OU and even though I love the team I still think it is funny that we are the most hated sports program in America. Yeah, it has been that way for a long time now but I guess I have grown used to it. The current vibe around campus is that Texas probably did have a better claim to the title than us but it was the decision of the BCS that gave us the chance. As for Mizzou, I really hate Chase Daniels and love to see that fat headed ego maniac get destroyed every time he plays. As for the rest of OU fans, I would say about 25% actually went to the university or have sent kids there. The rest simply saw the t-shirt on sale at Wal-Mart and jumped on the band wagon. Trust me, we don't like them either.

So, please don't hate all Sooner fans, just most of them! :aok

I can't stand this Bowl crap! Get a playoff and let the players settle it on the field, Not by votes!

Oh for those of you wondering what the University of Houston (My school  :rock ) has going for them, check out these stats from our SOPHMORE QB Case Keenum...

don't hate the fans at all

stoops is a classless piece of garbage for what he did

you don't run up the score to jump to 1st when you're assured the national title game already by winning

and you don't run up the score to make records

that was just all in horrible taste what he did, as i said before, you don't have your heisman candidate in in the 4th quarter throwing long balls when the game is won, he shouldn't have even been playing the 4th quarter, heck they had the game won by the second quarter really.... just classless coaching

Yes, that was an odd choice considering Bradford was scheduled to have surgery on his throwing hand the very next morning.

Oh well, I just want to see an actual "fun-to-watch" National Championship this year.

yeah, but not in that manner, if they're winning big tebow comes out and all the 2nd stringers go in, and they just happen to score more, they aren't activly trying their absolute best to score, as oklahoma was the other night

Spurrier also became known for his gamesmanship while at UF, doing such things as giving much-derided Georgia coach Ray Goff the nickname of "Ray Goof" and intentionally running up the score against not only lesser teams, but also conference rivals such as UGA and Kentucky.

Yep, that's some real 'class' right there.  I don't care if it was 10 years ago or 10 months ago, Gators still ran up the score.  Can't have it both ways.

Actually it's his left hand that got surgery. So we're still good. I am a diehard Sooners fan. I was raised that way. My Mom's an Okie from Okmulgee.

As far as any of these poophouse critics goes. Too bad. I think some of you need to go back and look at scores from the entire college season and see how many games were loopsided. I don't Stoops would have done that if the Mizzou players hadn't been running their mouths to the media. I would have done the same thing, but I would have been smiling at the little bastiges the entire time.

And to all you texas fans, you'll always have next year. Oh wait! you guys get a bowl game too. what's that one called? Oh yeah. the Fritos Siesta Bowl :lol

(note: can you believe spell check actually thought there should be a Capital T in texas?) :rofl

Maybe I'm wrong here but I always thought the point of playing a game like football was to get as many points on the board as possible in the time allowed. If OU scored 60 points it's not their fault, it's the other teams fault for letting them. That's what defense is for, and evidently they didn't have a defense.

OHHHHH WAIT!!!!! I forgot, this is the new PC area of sports where everyone is supposed to walk off the field feeling like a winner.

Give me a break. I hope the do the same thing to Florida. I'd laugh my butt off and I'm not even a serious OU fan. I'm an OSU fan myself. Stillwater is a much better party town, at least it was 18 years ago. Norman just sucks.

first of all they wont score 60 against florida

2nd you havent read any of the posts to see why i'm complaining. It's stupidity to run up the score with all of your star players in when you're basically already going to the national championship game. It is their fault they scored 60 points because they tried their very best to score 60 when they didnt need to at all, they could have let the 2nd and 3rd string guys get some playing time.

Last year Urban had Tebow throwing bombs in the 4th against Tenn and Florida State, when the game was already decided.  Does that make him classless also?

thats just not true, i was at the tennessee game, he was out half way through the 3rd and florida state i'm not entirely sure but that was a slaughter and since thats the thanksgiving weekend game, I'm sure he wouldn't have been risking him so late in the season

It doesn't show any long TD passes, but I'm sure there were some long ones just not for TD's.  And Urban runs the score up the same way most of the rest of them do, he knows how the BCS game is played.

well i have a crummy memory then, florida state is slighty acceptable  because it's the rivalry

tennesse i really didn't remeber, but you did high light a 5 yard run, and not a 30 yard pass like OU was doing. Listen everyone does it, and i know it, but in the national spotlight, with the national championship already locked up, doing it JUST to get their little record and to sort of "cheat" the BCS to get to first, i thought it was a little rude. (yes i know its not cheating the bcs, its just the stupid way college football is setup) I dunno, isnt anyone going to agree with me lol, I thought it was of poor taste given the situation.

I think that all of it is poor taste, but I don't blame them because that's what you have to do.  I'm not an OU fan, I'm not a Florida fan, Texas all the way.  Am I upset they didn't get in, of course, but oh well, I know Florida is going to win and that's fine with me.  I was taught growing up not to run the score up that it is bad sportsmanship and a disgrace to the other team.  I highlighted a 5 yard run because 6 points is 6 points, it doesn't matter if it's in the air for 30 yards or on the ground for 5.

WHY is it bad to keep scoring if your able to? The game is played to win, and if a team can't stop the other team from scoring, that's their fault. Why should the winning team stop scoring then? To protect the "feelings" of the other team? We're talking full contact college football here. The days of everyone leaving the field feeling good about themselves is OVER. There is a winner and a looser, and if a team is able to beat the crap out of anouther team by 60,70,80 points then they should DO IT!!!! If the loosers feel bad, well tough, that's life, work harder so you don't suck so bad next time. If they were humiliated, they deserved it.

There is no such thing as running up the score. There is winning, and loosing. A good team, and a crappy team. The score only tells by how much.

What if Texas would of ran their scores up a little more in one or more their games?   You can think what you want about Stoops, bottom line is he is a great coach and is doing what he has to do to prevail.  OU has to damn near have a flawless season to be even get a chance.  Look at what we have, #4 picking off so called #1 and their in the game?  A little insurance isn't such a bad thing when considering the BCS BS.  Don't ya think?
Title: Re: The Classless Sooners

hornet your really not getting my point at all

Stoops went beyond reasonable coaching logic and risked all his star players getting injured in a game that was won in the 2nd quarter, a game that since they had won, would take them to the national championship game, where one would assume you would want all of your star players. It was just a stupid move on his part. When you win, your supposed to win gracefully and with class, thats what sportsmanship is.

are you kidding me, be glad OU doesn't play in the SEC

SEC is EASILY the toughest college football conference

And I wouldn't be getting cocky already, I don't think either team will blow the other one out, it's going to be a very good game, I'd say similar to the Bama v Florida game, which is one of the best games I've seen in a long while

SEC is EASILY the toughest college football conference

blah, besides two teams the SEC took a whooping from the ACC.  The SEC is not the end all be all of college football.

Quote
An "elite team" does not make an "elite conference."

Here are the final regular season results in games involving teams from the BCS leagues played against each other or Notre Dame.  (There are no OOC games next week played between BCS leagues)

1-  ACC 15-8

2-  Big East 9-7

3-  Big12 7-8

4-  Big10 6-7

5-  PAC10 6-8

6-  SEC 6-9

(Notre Dame 4-6)

Do you think this year is a fluke?

Here are the results of all the leagues since the inception of the BCS in 1998.

1-  ACC  126-120

2-  PAC10 96-92

3-  Big10  117-113

4-  SEC  101-101

5-  Big12 93-99

6-  BigEast 96-110

(Notre Dame 59-53)

Top-to-Bottom...The ACC is the toughest league.

It is the ACC, that "beats up each other" in conference games...not the Big12 or the SEC.

Please notice how the ACC this year played 48% of their OOC games against teams from the other BCS leagues. (23 of 48)

The Big12 and the SEC only played 31% of their OOC games against teams from the other BCS leagues (15 of 48)

Maybe, if the ACC played a few more easy OOC games, then they also would have 10+ win teams.

The ACC has 12 teams...4 of those teams went 5-3 in league competition.  6 of those teams went 4-4 in league competition.  10 teams played 500 ball in a 12-team league.  That folks, is the epitome of being the best Top-to-Bottom league in the country.  Especially when you factor in that the ACC played 7 games above 500 against teams from the other BCS leagues, and 4 of the 6 BCS leagues, couldn't even break even, in a limited number of games.

On to the Bowls...

Borrowed from a random sports forum.  ACC ftw.  :D

Again, your wrong.  Your "powerhouse" teams played the weaker side of the ACC and came up with only 4 wins.   :rofl  SEC is so overrated its sickening.

There were 10 games this season between SEC and ACC teams.

The SEC was the team with the higher league standing in 7 games.

The SEC won 4 games.  In all 4 games the SEC team of higher standing.

The ACC won 6 of these games.

2 games were against a team of equal standing.

4 of the ACC wins were against SEC teams that had a higher final standing.

The 2 SEC teams in the championship game played 3 of the games against the ACC.

Neither of the ACC teams in the championship game played against the SEC.

6  Duke                       3  Vanderbilt               SEC Higher Conference Standing

How different would this season look if the Higher ranked ACC teams had been playing the lower ranked SEC teams?   :aok

As much as I hate Zero U, I can't blame them for running up the score. It's not their fault that the system in which they are judged endorses running up the score. And consindering they had that 3 way tie with the Tea sips and Sand Aggies, I'm sure they did everything they could to hang a hundred on every opponent since the Texas loss.

The Sooners normally place the Band members an a mixture of the Cheerleaders in on the 4th Quarter just to make you whine and cry.

Gives all of us Okies and Bob Stoops a chuckle.

If you can't deal with College Football there's always the Chess Club.

Well that's just, like your opinion man.  :D

Look at the records of leagues for out of conference games.  You'll find the ACC dominating.  ACC used up all it's bowl eligible slots and still had other teams, such as my NC STATE Wolfpack going to a bowl.

ACC > SEC   (and we have Duke, arguably the worst NCAA football program ever)

Oh lord bongaroo, all I have to say is Duke is Puke, and Wake is Fake, but the team I hate is N.C. State, Go Heels, Go Heels, lol

Friends don't let friends go to Dook.  Wake Forest has never really bothered me, they are a tough conference team in both football and basketball.

As far as Carolina goes...

We're the Red and White from State
and we know we are the best
Hands behind our back
we'll take on all the rest
GO TO (H E Double hockey stick) CAROLINA
Dukes and Deacs stand in line
Red and White from  NC State

GO STATE

:D They get a special spot in our fight song.  Remind me how the State v Carolina game went this year again?  Wasn't it at UNC too?  :D

Ok, I know where it is.  I used to work in Roxboro and live just above the state line.  Matter of fact I have to head down to Streets of Southpoint on the 21st.
