Group Commanders
If any ROOK squadron commander whose group has expertise in
operating the venerable P-51D in both an interceptor role and
a ground attack role is interested in commanding one of
the 3 designated fighter groups, please let me know asap.

The best way to let me know you are interested in assuming
such a role is to go to the LCA's website at www.lcasquad.org (http://www.lcasquad.org/)
and use the V-Mail form to contact me.  The last thing you will
need to do is register on our forums so you can be granted
access to the MoM planning area.

j/k, good luck, sounds like a lot of fun and wish I could be there, but I won't be able to make the early flight time.

You are right Babs.
Since this is a simple fighter mission I
am going to push the times back an hour
to give you West coast guys a chace to play.   :aok

Thanks for pointing that out for me.  :salute

Looks fun, but two things:

a) you put the date as 2009, not 2008 in the title

b) if I just want to be a regular pilot in this, do I need to sign up in advance?

I fixed the date while you were posting Yosarrian. :)

There is no signing up in advance for MoM Missions!

Thats what makes them different from FSO or Scenarios.
You only have to be in the arena when they are scheduled
to roll, join the missions when they are posted ,and then
just listen to the instructions given you by your group
commander.

So watch the country channel for the mission posted
announcement and then join one of the posted missions.
and most of all...HAVE FUN!

Good question...thanks for asking!  :salute

Awesome, thanks!  :rock  I should be able to make that (pending traffic, should be on sometime between assembly and launch).

I'm a Nit atm, so I'll likely switch to Rooks for this mission.  I'll consider bribes from Bishland though. :D

Delta, you list 8th AF fighter groups and have an 8th AF patch, but your 51 is a 325th FG, 15th AF bird!  False advertising! :)

That's a big 10-4 good buddy only.....
I didn't list the 325th FG in our order of battle.

I have the 352nd Fighter Group, the
"Bluenosed Bastards of Bodney"
listed in our TOE.

Its okay though.  And don't worry..they have

I think what Guppy was trying to tell ya was your picture of the P51, in your awesome looking bannor, is a 325th FG that flew in the 15th Air Force.
It's also not from Aces High.
 :noid

Very creative though 96delta.

Oki dokie then!
I stand corrected.   :uhoh

Thanks for the heads-up Guppy and Kermit. :)
I wanted things to match so I went ahead and
changed the graphics.  Its now an all 15th AF show!
(besides, the 8th AF got all the attention - need to get our 15th AF
heroes in the mix here!)

As it happens, [MoM #4] was already planned to be a 15th AF
affair (currently in the  planning stage) so 15th Air Force fans
will be well served!

Thanks again for the correction...ya want some of my dyslexia pills?

Oh yea, you're correct, the image isn't from Aces High.
I don't have much good in the way of dramatic screencaps
that I could use so I went the easy way and hunted down something
from another source.  If anyone has any decent screenies of the
various planes of AHII (P-47, P-38, B-17, etc.) please send them
to me.  I'd like to use AHII art in my promotional graphics...
if I have them.

This time, I will be likely not get involved.

I fear this many 51s, without being chained to something like bomber escort, will turn into a horde fest. How are you going to handle it, Delta?

Terms like "horde fest" are ambiguous at best.
Could you clarify the definition of the term so I can reply?

From what I've seen from alot of these pony drivers they'll run back to base at the first sign of trouble or dive straight to the deck into a nest of spits and LA7s. It'll be interesting to say the least.

I'm not sure 3 packs of 50 P51s will run into a whole lot of trouble. Even if 10 of them do, the other 40 will protect them...

And that's it in a nut shell. Once they find the 51 is not the same bird at 25 or 30K they'll drop to 10k and be ripe for the picken. I strongly suggest you pony drivers practice at 25k or so with heavy fuel load for this fight. This won't be a easy mission. :salute

Ah, but they won't be able to this time, I'm assuming they'll be waaay out of range of the usual horde of 16's and lgays at 2-6k circling like vulchers hoping to feed of the scraps, As such they wil have to fight or die, I'm willing to bet there will be proxies a plenty as the ponies all compress in thier frantic attempts to escape to preserve thier score.

As a general rule, I don't do missions. I'm a renegade by nature, I guess. If the crowd is headed west, I'm going east. Nonetheless, I may just take up a P-51B and tag along hunting for high altitude Luftwobbles to abuse.

I ran clinics for high alt fighting. Above 25k the Luftwaffe hardware is out of its element, Up at 30k, it's worse. Much worse. 190A types are worthless against fighters. 109s are only somewhat better. P-51Ds are very good up high and P-51Bs are even more capable. A P-51B can do 443 mph at 27,500 feet.

I'm sure they'll greet us with K4s,152s and jugs. All three are better then the ponys up there. I never said the 51s aren't good up high. The point I was trying to make is that fighting at that alt against better aircraft takes a different skill set then is used at the normal 1k to 15k MA fights. At least that's been my experience anyway. I have no doubts the mustangs will hold their own, but to be successful against better performing aircraft we're going to have to be thinking a couple moves ahead.  :salute

Well flown P-47s can be trouble at 30k. 109K-4s aren't much of an issue. At 30k they're well above where they shine. Ta 152s are no problem either. The P-51D is dead equal in speed at 27k with the 109K-4 (440 mph) and the P-51D does it WITHOUT WEP.

Think about this... The P-51B is about 12 mph faster (441 mph) than the 109K-4 at 30k and out climbs it to boot. At high alts, 109s cannot afford to push the nose below the horizon without throttling back. Their controls get very stiff in a blink.

IMHO, the four most dangerous fighters between 25k and 30k are the P-47N (476 mph at 30k), F4U-4 (452 mph at 27.5k), Spit14 (444 mph at 27.5k) and the Spit9 (only about 406 mph at 27.5k, but it is very agile up there with great climb rate).

What pilots need to realize is that stall speeds are IAS.

My regards,

Widewing

Widewing,

After reading your thoughtful and informative posts
I have half a mind to make one of the P-51 groups
consist of P-51B's.

NOTE: I changed it.

My only problem with them is their reduced number
of guns.  It's an issue for me at least because my gunnery
is weak and I need to get all the wallop I can
out of my guns when (and if) I connect with my prey.
That is, before I turn into his prey!  :huh

Thank you!   :salute

Now who can I get to command the P-51B
group?  ;)

I'm really not at all sure Del.

I planned to take a look at the map on Tuesday
and then, in conference with the various group
commanders, decide how best to deploy our forces.

I seriously hope that since I have given the Bishops
a heads-up that they will be the target, as well
as our launch date and time, that they
will organize some kind of resistance to make this
a serious brawl for control of the skies.

My initial plan going in is to support the area where
the Rooks have momentum.  That can either be
to close enemy bases in the area so as to
isolate enemy bases from support, a fighter
sweep to deny the enemy control of the skies
in the area of operations or to attack strats
with the 'stangs and then support base
capture missions.

Its all kind of up in the air until Tuesday until
we have our chat and can assess where best
to strike.

Not in the game according to http://gonzoville.com/ahcharts/index.php (http://gonzoville.com/ahcharts/index.php).

If only the P-47N didn't depend so much on WEP for its performance I would say it's the best high altitude fighter in the game, but it's certainly among the top 3.

I was wondering why you hadn't responded Talon.

I hope we have a good turnout for this.
Would be awesome to see a 300-plane furball tonight!   :O

Don't think my FR will take 300 planes in the same vicinity. Uh oh.  :O

I hope I'm just being overly optmistic myself.
I play on an older PC and I have problems
with stutter on some 1 v 1 engagements!

Still, even if my PC crashes, I hope that alot
of guys elect tp participate and have a lot
of fun.  Its what this game is supposed to be
all about.  ;)

I don't think the switch from the 51-B and 51-D will be an issue. I flew Pony-D's, 47's, A-8's, and all kinds of other guns-a-go-go birds, never hitting a damn thing.

But when I up a G6 or an FM2, somebody's gonna go down. And it ain't me.

(BTW, I love when spit dweebs try to out turn an FM2. Their rear stabs fall off so nice. :rofl)

From what I could tell it was overkill, wasnt enjoyable to see 150+ planes killing so many fields with little opposition in a critical area of the map.
