Title: Return of fso?
Post by: ELD66 on December 25, 2008, 07:42:54 PM
I was just wondering when FSO will return. I probably missed it somewhere but I figured I could ask here.
Thanks,

Not another Pacific event.  It has been a while since we have had a Mediterranean Theater in Italy.

And what does that have to do with me making a remark about your negativity towards the PTO?

Another event like the Rangoon FSO would be nice.  I do hope the developers really really really think about the planes they choose to ue for substitutes.  If a plane is not available, the sub should not be BETTER than the real thing.

Case in point: Battle of Britain and the Ju88's.  Far too many Ju88's were used.  An almost perfect sub He111 would have been the B25 w/ 250lb bombs, but instead they elected to go all out with the Ju88's.

I'm hoping whatever it is, a good mix of US and Aussie/NZ/British aircraft vs Jap.  Maybe even some mainland stuff away from the US Navy's reach.   :)

So far everything in the PTO over the last year has been either early war (Guadalcanal, Midway) or late (Okinawa, Tokyo). How about a nice late-43/early-44 setup (1As, P-38Gs, P-39Ds, etc).

The bounty was for you saying you didn't want to see another PTO setup, NOT as payback for being shot down.

B25C is a terrible sub for an He111.

Too fast!

We really just need the Heinkel, the Blenheim, the Betty, the Nell, and a number of other early war bombers. We just need less gaps in the planeset!

Better yet, don't do scenarios that require major substitutions.

Amen!

Now the NZ/New Guinea arena with USAAF, USMC v IJN, IJA would be really SWEET!

Oh okay, you can toss in a couple of those squid types too.

I have!!! It was the invasion of Japan one maybe 8-12 months back. I remember seeing -C and -4 hogs. I was still riding with 347th back then.

My squadron first joined FSO last November for Okinawa, so it would have had to be sometime before then.

Any word on what the January setup is yet, beyond that it's PTO?

The only thing I have seen about it is that it's Bougainville, which as a Marine I will definitely love.  I cought the last frame of Oki I think and it was pretty cool.  I was sitting there looking at the map pointing out to my wife where different places on the island were that I used to go to when I was stationed there.

Does that mean another early-war PTO scenario?  We just had Midway... :uhoh

Oh, forgive my ignorance!  I just checked and it seems like a '43 campaign.

Yep November 1943 is when it started, I guess that's what this one is set up for.

Awesome!  If it is Bougainville, that means there are B24's (what Grandpa flew), Japanese shipping/fleets (Grandpa's main target), and Aussie P40E's (he was only ever escorted by Aussie P40's during that campaign and never saw a Jap plane).  I heard my G'pa speak of that campaign more than once.

I'm looking forward to the "slot" map, too.  SCHWEET!
