Give us one or two of these for each country on an MA map. Tie in the strat so that THIS is the thing that you have to take down at least 75% in order to slow refresh times.
I'm saying get rid of the 1-tile "factories" that have no realism being set in the middle of 8K box canyons, or in deserts 100mi from anything.
Give us this, and at least we can have FUN bombing stuff in the MA. Bombers get more to bomb, they also know what they are bombing is helping, but that they ALONE cannot take something out. Due to the sheer size it would take concentrated efforts by any one country to take down the strat of another, but dangit if it wouldn't be a blast to try!
Bombers get to enjoy their aspects of the game, fighters get to escort, or intercept them, and GVs get the fun of trying to drive through these things shooting buildings or other GVs.
Why is this in the wishlist? It's just custom tile items, you say? That's true. However, HTC won't accept MA maps with custom object tiles. Give us the CT bombing strat in our everyday MA and I'll for sure be bombing a lot more.
It's just not so fun bombing a 1-tile square.
As for the practicality, make down times the same, or divide the "object" (aka the city) into grids so different parts affect resupply of troops, dar, ack, etc.
-
Kind of like the idea, but I have a small suggestion/modification.
Use a large city for each strat, but let the factory portion "spawn" randomly within it when the map is set. Leave the rest of the buildings as useless clutter.
Why? To simulate the real-life problem the USAAF had of identifying the proper target on their "precision" daylight bombing runs.
Leave the message as "building destroyed" for any building hit, but only factory objects affect the strats and generate score/perks. So, the only way to tell if your bombs did anything of use is by checking the perks afterwards.
-
You didn't only have to hit a single building to stop productivity. Wiping out the entire city around a plant was proven in WW2 to be quite devastating. The people there are killed or their lives put on hold while they dig out their rubble and rebuild their homes.
I like the prospect of having MORE targets, not hiding the same small target we have in a haystack full of similar-looking objects.
-
Love the idea but it may cause a bit of lag when flying over.

While true, factories were always the main targets. The other buildings that were hit were collateral damage, and while I'm sure it did slow productivity, the goal wasn't to kill innocents.
-
I really like the idea but i think pope is right that it might cause a lot of lag :rock

burning down Tokyo worked so why wont it work in ah :devil

At least in the bombings of Tokyo, the reason why the residential centers were targeted wasn't because of what you described but because there were a lot of cottage industries operating in the residential areas that were vital to the Japanese war production. By destroying those cottage industries and killing the workers that worked in them did great damage to the Japanese war effort. I'm sure the same practice was done in the ETO as well.

"WOW”!!!! Just think of the armor battles you could have in the streets and alleys of this town.... Place spawn points nearby.. Not only would GV's have to worry about other GV's, but the occasional squad bomb run that could wipe out blocks at a time.

FIREBOMBS
That is all.

CLUSTERBOMBS
They'd work better.
:aok

It would be nice if the factory targets were a little bigger than a "stick & plum" town.

I say you can have that, if we get to have PTO maps that actually LOOK like Pacific islands. Where the frell did the islanders get all them windmills?

Maybe those islands are part of the Dutch East Indies...

I'd be in a jeep going past 60mph through the factories and buildings trying to avoid bombs going boom! :D
I like this idea. :aok

Make tank spawns into it too and make it a real fun town :devil

Post war studies on German citizens proved that philosphy wrong. Many German citizens fell into a state of fatalism. They continued to go to work at the factories simply becase many of them felt that they had no control over life or death, so they tried to continue their lives normally.

I like it.
-
It would make large bomb runs alot more fun. Have a lead bomber and drop salvos like they did in real life. Right now the strat is so small that its hard to do.

:rofl milk running on a MASSIVE scale. I'd love to hang out over that in fighter mode :devil

If stuff like this will promote fights, it ought to be a lot of fun. These factories ought to be producing something immediately critical for one side to defend it and the other side to attack it.
-
Id love to see this!
-
:aok I really like this idea too.
-
I like the huge city! A city that large needs to be strategically valued, not just a big bomber target with no motivation to defend or attack it.
-

if we get this towns, i want a road map for my tiger. i gues its realy hard to drive in this city with out a map hehe.

where is hooters,? do they have tiger parking?

I say we just get rid of all the other factorys and city , and just adopt this one or two big massive citys that would affect the countrys abiltys at somthing
I dont know what

T'would be the true tank town.

T'would be the true tank town.
Aye, t'would.

I dont think it would be that bad for lagg, because we fly over armys of trees constantly, and this huge city might be the same as those trees
-
GVs wouldn`t get all that much of a guarantee for great fights.. There`d be tons of ground attack planes egging away with no regard for how good and fun the gound fight was before they interrupted it. I would say it'd encourage more fighting overall, though.

It could be a good catalyst for creating fights.

That, and supply convoys. :noid
-
I would like to see bigger cities in the MAs aswell. There's some real cool ones in some AvA Maps
-
I like it. It will be fun to hit with.....
the 350 Perk Point B-29.....
then follow up with the ME-410...
It would be a blast :aok
-
I just want to see how much damage a flight of lancs with that big honkin bomb (4,000 Kger I think?) can do to that. With MA hardness settings, how many buildings would that knock down?
And then the secondary run with the 1,000 Kgers... :t
-
the 350 Perk Point B-29.....
Now see, a target like THIS would be a worthwhile reason to add the B-29 (NO N00K). Restrict it to one of the uncapturable airfields in the back, and require it to be a large airfield. Man, imagine the fun of escorting and intercepting a long-range B-29 raid on an enemy's giant city.
-
AYE!
I'm down like Charlie Brown for this idea.
-
This should be the city at every base you must destroy to capture the field.

Best comment of the thread.

To all the people who complain about lag, Take the C64 you are playing on and throw it out your window.Go to wal-mart buy a decent machine, Gut it and return the empty case to the Marxist company. Bam you have a game worthy machine with almost no cash spent.

and make it so you need at least 50 troops to capture the field.

I think the B-17 would fair better, with 24x100lbs bombs! I doubt it would take more than 100lbs to take down a building?
-
They should put the HQ in there, too. Would make it a lot harder to take out if you had to hunt for it in all those buildings, or would require a lot more planning and studying of the strat maps to know how to set up your bomb run.
I kinda like this. Put all your strats AND HQ hidden in one city.

:aok

This would be brilliant! I'm all for it. :aok

Would be fun of some sort. Strats in or near the the towns with a little bit of wind would make bombing more fun.

Noobs would never find the map room. Or troops are running it will take about an hour or so.

so should these towns have massive amounts of puffy ack if strats are located in/near them?
-

Oh heck ya! Let's not make it an easy target by any means.
-
Put an airfield at the edge of town. Now that would get a fight going.
-
More oil refinery! More Ack! More trains! Airfields all around!
I shall call him "Ploesti"... :t
-
my dream is that Hi tech reads this and likes it
right now the strat system is useless because no one is using it
might as well try this
-
tie strats directly into the win the war equation then they'll be worth hitting and defending. I've only been here 2 years so it might be a really bad idea :).

According to what is in writing, http://www2.hitechcreations.com/ahhelp/map.html, they are. Still, it needs something more.
-
What I meant was strats having to be knocked down to a certain % along with capturing 40% of the other two countries bases to win.

Now that I like. It gives bomber nuts like me something purposeful to do. :aok
-
I like to up some days and just Jabo, would make flying to strats more worth it. Also like Treize69's post
"More oil refinery! More Ack! More trains! Airfields all around!
Maybe even have a way to capture these huge cities as a way take the zone strats.

Really fire up karelia <sp> map watch as your frames drop. Now add ac..gv..fire...smoke... tracers.
-
Add an Ack tower in the center of the city, and any surrounding bridges that access the city could be bombed with a sufficient amount of ords until they spawn back up or are accelerated thru repair via re-supply. Just think as a last resort to defend your town from the hordes of enemy armor, you must blow your own bridges to slow capture.." Oh great gods of ones and zeros (Hi-tech)”…!! Please grant our wishes for a massive town of perpetual game play ......

The more I think about this the less I like it.
I do like the idea of it graphically but the downside is that no one would have to learn to calibrate for a bomb drop in a buff anymore. Any dweeb could carpet bomb this city without bothering to learn to calibrate.
To offset that there should be targets of "importance" throughout the city which would need to be hit for scoring purposes, with the "standard" town buildings giving no score. This would still allow for potential GV battles throughout the city, would still allow for the graphic eye candy but would also not dilute the bombing "skill" required in the game. It would be more akin to hitting strategic targets within a large city as was the case IRL.
-
with the amount of lan-stukas, dive bombing B-17's and NOE B-24's is it really going to be different. I think it may at least get these guys to fly at altitude because of the greater chance of hitting something. add a small amount of wind to make it a bit more challenging.
-
Also, if there ARE a lotta folks attacking, you DO have to aim, or you plunk your bombs down square on the patch of buildings that's already been bombed out before you got there ;)
-
Too bad the dead buildings look the same as the live buildings from 30,000.
-
If you've ever bombed strats, you'd know you can tell the difference through the bomb sight.
