Title: no ammo? no problem
Post by: Shane on January 11, 2009, 07:51:37 PM
Situation:  Temp in's on my lala, I reverse, ping (smoke him) and watch him flee.  Being curious I turn on film to ID him if he got away.

I sprayed my last few rounds trying to make something happen.  Now ammo-less and still in pursuit and closing around 600 yds.  I decide to see if I can get him to collide with me by flying under him and coming up in front, risking myself in front of the 4 hizookas.

It worked - he ran smack into my "tow-target-self."  Shows one minor flaw of the collsion code, but then again he could have avoided me, right?

It occurs at 3:30-3:40.   For bonus footage you can see me basically own a niki  right after - hoping to fly him into the ground, but, meh...

saw you going at it with him on 200... thought it was funny. I knew exactly what the situation was. No ammo ect... I seem to remember a film similar to this one you threw up probably 3-4 years ago now.

Cause that's what people used to do a long time ago in AH. Saddly there's just a few left who realize that even with out ammo, you can still "beat" the other guy even if you dont shoot him down. Oh yeah and the cool thing about getting shot down, you get a pretty new plane right away.

I thought intentional ramming was frowned on.

me in a p39 vs a p38..i was trying to kill a panzer(which apparently a p39 isn't good for?), when he inned on me. at first, he kept his alt and speed. next ya know, we're in a nice turnfight. i got a few hits on him, but nothing fatal...i think i smoked one of his engines. i ran outta ammo, and was well within range of my base to run away......but it was just soooo much fun trying to simply stay saddled up on him. i still don't know if he ever realized i was empty.....but it was a blast.

Temp should have attempted to fight, he didn't.  Ya, generally ramming is looked down upon, but there is a time and place for everything I guess.  That temp had no intention of fighting despite the fact shane had no ammo, despite the fact he is leaking oil, despite the fact niki in area, despite the fact shane gaining on him.  Actually, shanes risky attempt to ram is the only chance that the temp had of getting a kill on shane...he's actually giving him the temp a chance to "win" a fight.  If he had ammo left, outcome would have been the same anyway.

well review of the film shows the temp was leaking oil, had pilot wound and who knows maybe he was out of ammo also.

I think it was a pilot with VMF-124 during WWII who, out of ammunition or with all his guns jammed, flew up and chopped the tail off a Japanese plane with the propeller of his F4U. I remember reading a similar story by a pilot who flew at Guadalcanal chopping up the tail of a Japanese floatplane with his F4F's prop.

Don't recall him doing that. The guy with the vision problem did ram a betty though. He died......

I've stayed in John Carrol's home before when I was a kid. He's the guy no one liked in the movie. lol

he still should have turned to fight, unless he was just praying that someone would happen to fly over them and bail him out.  I prefer to attempt to do it myself.  Odds aren't good, but neither are the odds of flying straight with a dying engine, dying pilot, with an la7 gaining on your tail..... especially an la7 without ammo :)

Giving the context of this situation, I find this rather funny.

Now it's Vets that are being idiots, as well as newbie 13 year olds?

Tempy had an oil leak and a pilot wound in the film, turned for home.  You decide that's not good enough.  And ram him using a known quirk in the collision model.  Like another poster said, all respect gone. And you Dweeb it up even further by posting it on the BBS.

This wonderful game is finished, it's only a matter of time now

You wouldn't have been out of ammo if you could hit anything, BTW.
