Would like to see shore battery usage based on rank. Too many times a CV is hitting a base and someone is in SB and not firing. I do not want to say it could be a spy but could be a noob. Please make it like CV control rank.

Not gonna happen.

I think this would be a good idea

:aok
spy
-
No thank you.
I think seeing their name would be enough and perhaps a voting system for those in, "Range" to cast the person out of the battery would be sufficient.
-
Now that.... IS A GREAT IDEA! Have an icon at the gun. At least then we can see who is messing things up!

Ironically, I was against that motion in the past.

SB and the guns on the ship? just my .02

I say no to the rank idea for shore battery use. Rank is gameable, therefore not a good judge as to whom would be better in the gun. However providing icons above shore battery would help tremendously. If it is an inexperienced gunner, then you can at least help them aim/shoot. If it is something else then you can shame them as they deserve.
-
atleast put name icon above the battery. too many times I have been at bases and the shore battery(ies) were occupied but no rounds were going downrange and nobody answered when the " who is in the shore battery ?" was asked..

Multiple times the gun is occupied with NO GUNNER. Asleep at the wheel perhaps? A ghost or spy? Who knows. A CV can be taken away with rank why not the Shore Battery to take out a CV?

It was already stated why. Rank does not mean that the person taking charge of the battery is more experienced. It simply means the person stuck around striking particular targets to gain a number next to their callsign. I'd prefer a voting system available to those within the, "Range" of the battery which determines if the person is ejected from the battery and the person who started the vote takes the place of the individual ejected. And if that wouldn't work, simply place the callsign of the player within that shore battery above the battery.
-
No for voting as well. Remember what happens with .report before HTC strikes back?
Ever if some particular player utterly suck in SB he have same right to be there as anybody else for his 15$. SB isnt only way to sink CV after all.
Icon would be ok though, imho.

No. We should not limit players ability to use things in a game. Thats why there is the perk system. :salute

Voting may get kinda political and some "jerks" would vote someone out. I don't think that would be realistic. Maybe an idle timer to end sortie. No shots for 5 min, bingo.
Does Hi Tec actually look at these ideas?
-
The Player ID over shore battery and idle timer would be brilliant.
Yes, Hitech and Company check out these forums rather frequently.

I like this idea too!

I understand what all the hoopla is about here but many times I think the absence of rounds being fired at CV is the fact that it is not in view of the SB. I have many times sat in the SB knowing that in 5-10 minutes it will be inside the view and will stay in the SB while I go to the bathroom and get a fresh beer from the frig.
To that I have now that maybe 1% of the time it is a spy and the icon might help with that but then the guy that is trying to learn and not hitting the CV or having trouble getting range is likely to be barrated for it.
As for the booting out of it for not firing a shot in 5 minutes, I could live with it but again I don't think it will solve anything. The person will simply fire the gun any where but the CV every 4 mintues.
I personally haven't witnessed many times that a cv was within reach of a SB and not had someone in there firing it, of course I may not be paying close enough attention to it either.

A person in the shore battery may not be able to get a solution on the cv, and is just waiting for the cv to come back into his line of fire. Those guns only turn so far.

Its always funny when the cv comes in close to a base, nobody can ever get in the shore battery to take command.
Example from last night Titanic map:
CV is well with-in range and turret angle, shore battery is manned with an unknown player who will not shoot. CV proceeds to circle in same spot for over 1/2hr. in front of SB. Amazingly who ever was in the shore battery was not answering. Simple name tag will work wonders.
And you know for sure he wasn't shooting? Perhaps it was a new guy who was simply not adept?
A squaddie once started ranting and raving about not being able to get into the shore battery, that the goofball in there wasn't even shooting, how unfair that was, etc. etc. Went on for about a good five minutes. It was quite comical . . . especially since I was the one in the shore battery, and had gotten about six hits on the CV while he was ranting about how I wasn't even shooting.
Now, it may have been better for us if I had gotten out and let him sink the CV, but how am I supposed to get any better if I don't practice? Besides, it was fun to hear him sputter . . .
