Why would I want to win that thing when others that actually have 3 monitors are trying to win it?  It would be funny though. (Win it and put it on eBay!)

Ok, I'm entering now  :t

You can take screenshots in offline mode, or in an offline mission.  You don't need to go online to enter.  If you're using somebody else's screenshot or film as your source material, you need to get their permission.

With my new system coming, I may just get into this as well.

I wish HTC would post what they are looking for, if they are looking for A2A or something that shows as much of AH in one screenshot as humanly possible.
Title: Re: Screenshot contest
Post by: 1pLUs44 on January 19, 2009, 01:25:41 PM
I'm sorting through my films getting as many screenshots of what I'm looking for as I go through this. Also it's a great motive to fly more and get more screenshot material.

LOL I so can't enter the first catagory.  My computer so bad your screenies put mine to shame.  So maybe I'll turn to catagory 2 and blur the hell out of the picture.  Maybe poor quality can win? Doubt it.  I'll give it a whirl but I know I'm defeated.  Wish this was put out a month ago.  Been off work for a month till today.

Quote from: From the Main Page Rules:
Artistic entries can be run through filters to achieve any of a variety of artistic effects.

Suggested effects include black and white, graininess, photorealistic shading, speed blur, etc. to achieve an artistic interpretation of the screenshot.

Use any filters you like, I figure.  You just need to submit the original along with the end result.

I would assume the "using someone else's screen shot as your source material" would mean that you somehow manipulated that screen shot in an artistic way in order to enter it vs. taking the screen shot in question and just entering it.

I think the highlighted portion in the following statement that you made is what Pyro was referring to:

pyro can i use someone elses screen shot if I edit it? or if i have there permission?

Maybe I'm wrong....

I have gained permission from Blade. (the original screenshot creator.)

this is the screen shot of his permission. :aok

Here’s the thing.  I’m about 95% sure that Mr. Weazely is going to blow any screen shot I enter out of the water, they are that good.  But he doesn’t have the game downloaded, he doesn’t play the game and he doesn’t pay the monthly dues. He’s borrowing somebody else’s screen shots. So how can he or others like him enter into a competition against paying members of the community? Doesn’t that kind of defeat the purpose?

*I mean no offense by this post and I am not stating this because I’m super competitive. Just something that I think should be considered.  Weazely I’m not singling you out for any reason other than I know you don’t play by your own admission.

EPIC FAIL !!

Quote from Pyro "You can take screenshots in offline mode, or in an offline mission.  You don't need to go online to enter.  If you're using somebody else's screenshot or film as your source material, you need to get their permission"

The underlying game content that the screenshot is based upon cannot be changed, i.e. you can’t add or replace the underlying content of the screenshot

Biggles is really good at putting another games image onto a backround...None of his shots were with anything from AH2.
(but yah they were amazing!)

Jappa52- I dont need an active member ship to enter this contest.

I know that the backgrounds are inserted ... I was more making note of his talent ... he can probably make a real screenie look amazing too.

Email a copy of your screenshot(s) to screenshots@hitechcreations.com.

Include your name, address, phone number, and Game ID. You may submit as many entries as you like in both entry categories. A subscription to Aces High is not required to enter the contest.

File Format: High Quality JPEG (32 bit color)
Minimum Image Vertical size: 768 pixels (1024, or larger, is recommended)

I would think that "Game ID" would mean a paying game subscriber ... no ?

I know he has talent :aok.... I am just saying that the screen shots he makes are against the rules and me using Blade's screen shots is not.

Also there is only so many things you can put a AH2 screen shot to make look decent those filters alone arnt going to turn out grade A quality shots...(meaning graphics wise)

Been off work for a month till today.

choker you can try running the film viewer with maxed out resolution and graphics setting. The frme rate may be awefull but you will get a good still image out of it.

THE screenshot for me.  Nothing fancy, but it shows a moment of the absolute best of Aces High for me.  It was all down hill after this.

DGS Scenario, November 44 and 20+ P38Js and Ls of the 474th FG are on their way to rendevous with the B17s of the 3rd BD enroute to targets in Germany.  My flight of 4 in the foreground.  Shuff in front of the lead flight in the background.  Probably SAPP's finest effort as 38 drivers from all over flew the 474th in that scenario.

I was with a bunch of great people and good 38 sticks, all with a taste for the history we were pretending to fly.  The conversation was amazing as some of the guys were talking about family members who served in WW2.  Crims mentioned his Dad who was 2nd wave on D-Day.  Someone else was talking about grandpa who survived Tarawa and Saipan as a flamethrower operator.  Del mentioned a relative who was in the Pacific and later China postwar and what he'd seen.  It went on and on.

The word gets overused in the game, but there was a 'respect' in the air for what we were representing.  The radio chatter got intense as we defended the bombers. The flak bursts, the Luftwaffe fighters racing in, the bombers going down now and then, the winter terrain, the accurate skins on the planes.  All of it just fit and this screenshot will always remind me of that time where Aces High was at it's best for me.

No problem I love your stuff!!

what programs do you use?
I use Gimp,  Photofiltre, and twisted brush, all are free but I have to use them all, some are good for certain filters, but not so good for other things, I want to get Photoshop, but money is tight enough.

do you use "burn"? and "dodge"?   these are tools that I used on a trail version of Photoshop, but its not a choice  on any of the free image editors I have :cry

Again I think your SS are great!!

Gentlemen,

FWIW, and IMHO, I think the best chance of winning
will be a screenshot that features an Axis vs. Allies
matchup (or no combat at all).

While I love the Spit vs. P-51 screenie, I doubt it will win.

Why?  Look at the promotional videos that HiTech
uses to advertise the game.  Both Sanjini's video and
the current one both have something in common.
Anyone notice what that is?

Focus your efforts on getting a WWII combat screenshot
instead of a non-historical one and I think you
will improve your chances of winning.

Not that I know anything.  I'm just looking at
the evidence and drawing some conclusions.

Just a suggestion...

...

I thought about that too and do have a few I'm submitting like that but IMHO the Spit/P-51 screenshot really captures the spirit of the MA's (plus I think it's a really cool shot).

I've also got some awsome Spit V vs Spit V shots from the DA.

... and let's not forget GV's.

Nice work!  I like the 3rd one best.

which reminds me. It would be nice if HTC put up a place..or thread where we couold see all the entries. It would be even better if they chose 6 finalists and let us vote for the winner....but nah, guess not.
Title: Re: Screenshot contest

I actually think voting wouldnt be good because they started this contest so they can find something they want.

I do like the second one the best, and the B25 one. The KIs were nice, but the 109 one was absolutley the best.
I like the idea that all unedited Screenshots should go to the screenshot page, for an updated list. There is a way of doing this, HTC should leave this email adress open, screenshots@hitechcreations.com, and like the skin submissions, they will take a look at which one's Should be posted. Keep it updated and looking good.

I think there should be another for videos as well, maybe make another challenge and they get somthing like Sony Vega for winning.

Pyro posted the deadline for entrys is February 8th.....but at what time?

is it midnight 12:00AM 2/8/09. or is it 11:59PM 2/8/09, or whatever?

I am still going through my screenshots and figuring out which ones I want to send in for entry......

I am thinking ( we know what assumptions will get you! ) that it should be 11:59PM 2/8/09 for your particular timezone.....

just to be fair.......

in the rules it is posted that the deadline is February 20th for all entrys must be received.......

Pyro/hitech/Skuzzy/Sudz/Superfly/Carrie   ? could one of you please respond quickly with a absolute to this question please?

BTW TC, I'm sending mine in tonight just to be sure.

heck I would love to win but sometimes you just know,

sometimes you just know,

Thanks to everyone who submitted screenshots for the contest.  We received well over 600 screenshots.  We are still going through the process of sorting and judging but we expect to have the winners announced this week.  We will also post as many of the entries as we can in the screenshots section, but because of the sheer volume we will only be able to put up a fraction of them.
