I went to the DA tonight for a bit and seen a dot on dar coming the long way around to our airfield. It was Charger1 in the F4U4 trying to vulch. I killed him before he could :devil Then I look down and see a tempest hoing any and everything within his gun range. I killed him too :devil Figured I seen enough of this crap and landed my 2 kills and logged off. Jeez there's some real aces in there
-
should stick around a little longer. not everyone in the DA is like that....charger however is and there are others. there are a few decent sticks in there.

I guess if you can't hit a Mossie with a blacked out pilot from dead 6, then your only alternative is to HO.
Bat, what's your secret to getting everyone to fly right in front of you at the same time?

:rofl I have to try this some time!

Main point being that if had not taken the HO shots on the F4u the two spits would have never died so beautifully. Just an example of when i dont feel bad for ho'ing. 3 on 1 needs to become 2 on 1 quickly or it will become 3 on 0 even quicker....If you are probably going to die anyhow the '50% chance of losing the HO' stat becomes less of a deterant, and just every once in a while you might just kill all three of them.
I'm not advocating HO shots in general, but there is a time and a place for everything.

BATFINK OWNS THE MOSSY :rock :salute

Another HO. (http://rapidshare.com/files/190591056/film69_jinkHO_0101.ahf)

I generally liked the throttle control that Battfink was using. Impressed me a litte bit, but that was a nice pass on them. :aok :salute

Well just to show my nerves of steel I went for the Ho on this deadly TBM. Dang, could swear I heard bugs hitting the windscreen. I'll clean those off when I land. :rofl :rofl

So you could not outfly him and get on his six??
-
Come off it shuffler, that's a bit too 'elite'...It's a damn TBM. Everybody HOs bombers, especially if they have ord loaded.
Well done Getback, youve added to the list. Acceptable times to HO.
1. in a 3 on 1
2. Vs a bomber
-
Elite?? ahh ok I see yalls thoughts on Ho's now. They are ok as long as your forward firing guns are better than theirs. I'll write that down... and throw it away lol.
-
Shuffler, Shuffler, Shuffler.....Did you even watch the film in the original post? Methinks you fail to see the point. Are you honestly trying to tell us you've never taken a head on vs a TBM? :rofl
Watch my film and tell me I should not have taken the shot on the F4U.....

-
I never watch the films :)
I never shoot any plane in the HO position..... unless they open up first. I much rather floing around in the air and fight. Many times when they HO I still never shoot. The best are when merging and you hold fire and so do they. Then you know this is some fella that enjoys the fight and is not just thinking kill kill kill.
If I have someone come in and actually want to fight and I am lucky enough to get the upper hand, I'll pull off and wish them luck on making it back to base.
Now if this post is all a joke about something funny that happened in a film then haha. Pretty amazing what some can do in a TBM BTW.
As for your elite statement..... I'm nowhere near that.... I'm just lucky more often than not.

Oh I expected the backlash from folks like shuffler. No problem there. Look at the scenario here though. If I do the turn thing I get 3 cons on my 6 and probably more. It's a TBM, not a mossie or a 110 a TBM. It's possible that the TBM could have done some damage too. Just a second prior to this shot I ducked a HO by an F4F. He got a light ping on me but no damage there either. BTW, as soon as the TBM exploded I did a split S because I figured that was when one of the higher cons would come down and I was right. An AM6 dove on me but since I had E I pulled away but barely.
I posted the screen shot in jest.

meh... HOs.... in the arenas, i'll take whatever shot presents itself and i work for a guns solution, but i won't have guns on 1k+ out and joust (if i can help it).
:noid
-
It is my opinion, if one is constantly annoyed by HOs it can mean one fails to recognise when a ho is the only option in a furball, and expect too much in thinking those three dweebs ganging one guy wouldnt murder their own grandmothers to not get the assist.
-
Bros before hos, yos.
-
boats n hos boats n hos

If you have a vast firepower advantage and not much else going for you, then why not HO? If a 110 bounced by a Spixteen can convince the other flyer to HO, good for him.
It is the situation where HOing is M.A.D.ness and there are other options that annoy me. Alot of people out there depending on the other person trying to do the "right thing" and dodge the HO so they someone can potentially *win* the fight, instead of causing both parties to loose it. Then the love muffines get to talk about "front quarter shots".
-
Yeah, thats where the grey areas creep in. People start abusing consideration or what a ho is, or when they can bend the line to fit their motives. At the end of the day, it would be alot worse if HO were turned off somehow, and you couldnt fall back onto a joust when you really could have done in real life.
This isnt a thread to promote head on attacks of course but it does illustrate how survival can sometiems depend on the quick descision to ho the ho'er back before he kills you. If you hesitate youre going to die and be pissed off abou the way you died.
-

He flies just like that....................trust me...and he kills most of whatever he meets. He is just flat out good.
-
May I add that the TBM adjusted to HO me as well.
-
Ever notice how hard it is to HO bombers? Maybe it's just me. Doesn't help any that they do not cooperate by turning straight into your nose as you approach.

Why does HiTech Creations have the HO enabled? Do you ever think about that? Have you ever asked HiTech? The HO seems to be the Samual Colt of Aces High. It's the only equaliser a 2 week newbie has to make them feel good enough about thier own game play in light of hoards, picks, vulches and uber aces to become a paying member. If HiTech ran this game strictly by most of your rules, the game would not attract new membership moslty due to the nose bleed high standards and depressing guantlets of aces they would have to struggle uphill against. You would turn the MA's into super DA's.
The HO is the only factor that randomly removes the sure bet that elite players in the MA will slaughter everyone else.
HiTech Sir, is the HO fair game play in YOUR game?
-
no no bustr, youre arguing the same point as me :O
read it again, i am saying the same thing. It would be terible if HO shots were disabled, and very unrealistic too.

Maybe so.. but do u think 90% of planes (in WW2) HO'd on 1st pass putting there life at risk just to kill the other person 1st or do yo think they would avoid and kill them with some skill either in a turn, merge or pick.
Dont get me wrong.. i HO.. ive been playing 2 years and ive learn if you dont HO you will die basicly because people will line up on you and just spray there balls off at you.. why not .. its a game they dont actually die.. but yea i HO or even just dodge and turn.. but it always ends up with a kill whilst turning or turning nose on and HOing again.
-
If I watch someone else HO a teammate, I'll go out of my way to HO them... :)
If I'm in a bad mood I'll also HO occasionally... Misery loves company I suppose... :P

actually yes they did. the first rule taught was to turn into your opponent and face him head on. this served multiple purposes.
1 you shorten the distance between you and you opponent faster than he was anticipating
2 you cannot shoot at what is not in front of you, it is better to lose taking the shot than to lose without putting up a fight
3 you have more option engaging an opponent from your 12 than you do from your 6
4 you will spook an untrained uncombat seasoned pilot by the confrontation, increasing the likelihood that he will make a critical error
5 in air combat only the offensive pilot can win
6 maintain constant aggression
7 by turning into your attacker you force him to change his strategy, if he wants to survive he must move, this gives you the advantage of momentum, you have now taken control by forcing him to react to you instead of you reacting to him.
and the reasons go on and on. but the point is that they did teach the HO as a counter tactic to being bounced or attacked from an opponent with advantage. be that advatage superior alt or plane or ect....
but here in AH i have realised that the HO really is just a fight and fun ender. it takes no real skill. it does have its place and its application, but that is not every 1v1 and in every plane you fly. if your in a dog like the TBM and you get a HO shot youd be foolish not to take it, if your in a 110 mossie b25 ect and some tard in a fighter want a nose job then by all means give it to him. but when your 1v1 and your in relatively matched advantage and fighter types then damn it fight dont HO.
well just my $.02

Here's some true HO-tardation for ya.
http://www.mediafire.com/?zcegx8mzd2i (http://www.mediafire.com/?zcegx8mzd2i)
The irony is that the guy in the Mossie, who has every reason to wish for a HO in this situation, did not even seem to try for it.* On the other hand, later we have two dedicated fighters engaging a singleton. They have superior numbers, superior maneuverability, and, at this altitude, at least rough parity in performance. They are facing a fighter with firepower that could easily destroy them in a HO joust if the pilot chose to engage in one. So what is the logical thing for one of them to do? HO of course! (I'm sorry, I mean FQ snapshot .) I must actually blame myself on this one. Making a HO pass in this situation is so abysmally illogical that I didn't expect it and was lax on my juking and jiving. I should have realized something was odd when the second P-51 practically flew on top of the other and made no attempt to bracket. The sad part is that the twit probably thinks he has a very clever "tactic" worked out here.
OTOH, he is as deserving as of my pity as my wrath, because as the following illustrates, this individual seems fairly helpless in situations other than HOs.

*In case you're wondering Mech, yes I DID do a quick .f batfinkv before deciding I wanted to attack the %@%$$ mossie* :D
-
lol!
The mossy sure is good sor hoing with if you look at the guns, but the major downside is that a big target doesnt often get through a ho in one piece. The price of losing an engine or elevator, or getting a pilot wound is just not worth it in the mossy, in my opinion. Sometimes of course its the only option and has to be done quickly without hesitation.

In real life i expect it was more of a risk to give up an opertunity to fire your guns on the enemy than to chance a head on attack. In our game of course it is a skill less tactic, my only point here is that it has to be done and soemtimes leads to beautifull luck afterwards.

Don't fly into people.. problem solved. :D

In real life there were no icons and an enemy on a near-collision course often went from being "What's that speck on the windscreen?" to "Holy %@$%%!" and past you in a twinkling, somewhat increasing the difficulty of lining up a HO.
