What are your thoughts on that? It's not like they forced her to do anything, it's quite a textbook overplayed "porn" scene fantasy... hot girl walks into a fireman's station yadyyadachikabaambaam. In the other and, they have to "show the example", moral good conduct. Would have it been "ok" if it was a Jiffy Lube? (no pun itendend).
-
Damn shame it had to be with some sworn peace officers. Had she walked into any other place than one where the employees are expected to "protect and serve" the general public the employees would be publicly ridiculed for not better serving that customer and giving her what she wanted.
-
I think it's idiotic that some people lost their jobs over that. Unbecoming of an officer, yes, but hardly worth such severe punishment.
-
Was she trying to get her partner (arrested for drunk driving) off lightly? Or was she just a slut? Who cares, why can't police officers have a bit of fun too? I bet this kind of thing happens almost every day without the big hoohaa in the media.
-
No Criminal charges
No victim
No unsolicited behavior
No people saw/were offened by what happened
why did these officers loose their job again?!?! :furious

You're not serious? Your drunk girlfriend/wife/sister is in a police station doing stupid things and you're OK with that. After all, it is her fault. I'm sure she'd be OK with it the next day as well.
I get pulled over and offer the cop $50 to let me go. No one saw anything. He didn't ask for anything. I didn't really 'do' anything. No harm, no foul.
I would expect an employee at McDonald's to get fired if they did anything like that.

What looks like a hooker is enjoying the attention of police officers in a station. One officer touches her backside and other take photos with phone cameras. I expect the one who got sacked was the groper, who can say though. Its not a big deal just typical human behaviour, imo.

ELKHART — Surveillance video released by the Elkhart Police Department shows inappropriate behavior by police officers. The incident happened Thanksgiving morning while a woman from out of state was waiting for a ride home. She posed for inappropriate pictures with the officers.

Elkhart Public Safety Officer Accused of Taking Suggestive Pictures of Woman
The police department says it is embarrassed. No criminal charges were filed in this case, but one officer resigned, a city employee was fired, and the department suspended six other officers. The assistant chief says releasing the tapes is a way to move on from the incident.
The woman arrived just before the 3 a.m. The state police arrested the man she was riding with for drunk driving. Police brought her to the Elkhart Police Department to arrange a ride home. Police say the woman engaged in suggestive banter with the officers.
At 4:06 a.m, she posed for provocative pictures with Cpl. Benjamin Eaton, then with Safety Officer George Collard.
Ten minutes later, she climbed on the information desk and got into a provocative pose there, too. Collard came around to the other side of the desk and snapped a photo.
Later, an officer came out and seemingly put an end to the behavior. Just after 6 a.m., the woman left with relatives.
Once the department found out about the incident, it fired Collard immediately. Eaton resigned. Then Former Chief Pam Westlake suspended six officers without pay.
Cpl. Andy Rucker, Cpl. Ben Kruszynski, Sgt. Jim Ballard, Sgt. David Baskins, Sgt. Todd Thayer and Lt. Chris Snyder were all found to have committed neglect of duty.
Cpl. Rucker and Cpl. Kruszynski were also found to have committed conduct unbecoming an officer. The Board of Public Safety upheld that punishment. The officers also had to undergo ethics training. Current Asst. Chief Tim Balyeat told WSBT News the department has learned from the incident.
“It's been very humiliating,” Balyeat said. “It's been very embarrassing for the men and women of this department. I don't believe another incident like this will occur.”
All of the other officers are back on the force. Police say they waited until now to release the tapes because of the ongoing investigation.
Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill decided not to file criminal charges in the case, but called the conduct “unbecoming, inappropriate and otherwise an embarrassment to the department.”
Despite the release of the video, the police department considers the matter closed.
NOTE: According to the Elkhart Police Department, the picture that is displayed on the computer monitor in the lobby surveillance video is Windows-installed wallpaper of a sand dune.
You think maybe she had been drinking too and wasn't acting with the best judgement. Although, reading comments elsewhere where the vidio was posted "she was asking for it."
I find that kind of opinion rather disturbing as well.

In ElDroado, ks. A police officer beat the crap out of guy while two other officer watch and didn't do anything. That officer then drove that guy to his mom house, gave him a ticket (MIP) forage that guys name on the ticked and left him in the yard all night. That officer's dad is the sheriff of the county and trying to cover it up, not letting it go public.
-
I downloaded the video and it looks like the officers got what they had coming. If any one of us took upskit pictures, lifted up her skirt, and touched a woman like that while she is drunk we could be arrested for molestation/rape.
-
She wasn't drunk from what i got out of the video

You're still accountable to your actions even when intoxicated. By your way of thinking DUI laws are wrong too. Unless the cops drugged her (which wouldn't surprise me) she was not taken advantage of.
-
Some of the comments in this thread are bordering dangerously on becoming of the "Well the rape victim was ASKING for it" variety.
Yes, if this happened at a party there probably wouldn't have been much attention drawn to it. But this occurred at a POLICE STATION, and these men were on ACTIVE DUTY during this incident. I don't care what they would have done if it was their off-hours, but they were on the clock here. It was unprofessional, and if this happened at almost ANY OTHER place of business (other than perhaps a bar or club) you'd have seen the same sort of disciplinary action against the employees.
Regardless of how the woman was acting the officers involved should have put a stop to it IMMEDIATELY, NOT encouraged or taken advantage of her behavior. All it would have taken was a warning. If she didn't stop after that they could have put her in lockup until her ride got there.
-
you silly people , the police were only taking "evidence" photos. :lol

Ya tell that to the guys that get convicted of rape while sleeping with drunk girls....
-
Let's not lose sight of the middle ground: what they did was inappropriate, but only worth a suspension without pay or some other disciplinary measure. Firing them is too much unless it was some kind of repeated behavior.
You guys are taking polar opposite positions akin to puritinism vs the village prostitute.

The officers were on duty and as such had a duty to remain professional in their conduct while wearing the uniform. They did not adhere to that standard of professionalism and were justifiably fired for their inappropriate actions while on duty.

Those cops got hosed. That crap happens all the time. I suppose the crew on my first Coast Guard ship should have all been thrown to the wolves because we had a 6ft x 6ft sign that said, "Show Us Your Boobs" and we'd man the rail holding that sign up whenever we steamed past a beach or a boat with a bunch of women on it, and took pictures when they would.
If a woman is going to act like that she should expect men to act like that. Doesn't matter who it is or where they're at. Skanky women will be skanky women, and men, well we'll just be men.
The only people offended are the left wing feminist and metrosexuals, and the right wing bible thumpers. The other 90% of the population, well we could care less.

Paparazzi do it all the time and get paid for it.
Suspension for a few days would have been enough.

Behavior unbecoming seems fair in that instance and will normally get you tossed in this day and age.
Twenty five years ago that type of thing was a bit more acceptable, but the civilians have to put up with a lot more nit picky stuff these days so I guess whats good for the goose.........
I wonder where the watch commander was.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oo did anyone get her number?

About her being drunk and abused, it's not like she was passed out on a bench and they grabed her. When you can walk and function like she does on the video, u know what u are doing, so I don't buy the "she's a victim". I understand they are police officer, and thus held to a higher standard, but I've seen/eard similar situations ranging from the military, fire station to a body shop ... no one got hurt/fired, good memories.

No I am not OK with it. I didnt say their behavior was great, good, or even acceptable but it definatley does not merit officers loosing their career. This is a lack of common sense/error in judgement, that is all. I have not heard anything about the girl filing a complaint or even regretting the incedent. So, even if I or you are not ok with a girlfriend/sister having this done, it is not up to me or you. If the girl was for it and does not regret it than no harm was done other than unprofessinal behavior. this does not merit termination.

Okay, go to your local mall and take some up skirt pictures and see what happens when you get caught. Better yet go up to a woman and grab her bellybutton and try to lift up her skirt. But somehow we think that just because someone does it to a woman who is intoxicated its "okay" or any less of a crime. Hell if you think what they did wasn't wrong do all those things I said to a female coworker or customer and then ask yourself what went wrong when you're cleaning out your desk.

This is no different than drinking and driving. She knew of the effects of alcohol before she partook; she partook any way. Intoxication does not change anything. She willingly participated in the event. You are attempting to compare the consequences of doing this with a willing participant and with one who is not willing. Apples to oranges. The only way these cops did anything unlawful was if they drugged her.
On the other hand this is bad PR for the police and those guys should have behaved in a more professional manner.

Like he said, talk to guys that are in jail after having sex when women who are intoxicated. When people are intoxicated their judgements are impaired. When you take advantage of that they can press charges and question the fact that the sex was consentual. If you have sex when a woman who is passed out is it okay because she knew she was drunk and kept drinking until she passed out? If you take a drunk guys wallet is it okay because he was there and should have stopped you? Saying she "willingly participated" is wrong because the fact that she had been drinking and her judgement was impaired.

Then no one can be held responsible for getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.

Your ignorance is patetic.
The reason drunk driving is illegal is the same reason why what those officers did was wrong. Drinking impairs your judgement, so people behind the wheel are a danger to themselves and others. They took advantage of a drunk woman. If she wasn't drunk I could agree with you but from the looks of it she was intoxicated so everything that you said is just wrong and ignorant. From the looks of it you think sexual assault and molestion is okay. Do yourself a favor and stop trying to spin things to make the officers look like the victim because they aren't. They're just like criminals that target intoxicated people because they know that they aren't going to be a threat.

I don't know what "patetic" is but if a woman isn't responsible for allowing a man to grope her because she was intoxicated then that same woman shouldn't be responsible for the decision to drive while intoxicated. It's so simple you should be able to get Moe and Curley to explain it to you.

You're not even worth it. Think whatever foolish idea your child like brain can think of. Your wrong and your just saying the same wrong thing over and over trying to make it sound right. You're a sad example of the human race and I pray that one day you'll realized that sexual assalt is wrong no matter who you are and who you do it to. Have a good life because I'm done trying to explain to stupid people, and yes by "stupid people" I do mean you sluggish.

Sexual assault IS wrong, no doubt about that. I just fail to see where a sexual assault happened in this case - unless the cops drugged her, of course.

OK. A completely sober woman walks into a police station and flashes the officers. They take pictures. She leaves. This is acceptable behavior on the part of the officers still?
IIRC one guy got fired and it sounded like to me that he wasn't a police officer per se but worked the desk. One guy resigned, four or five were suspended. Nothing of the incident came out until the suspensions were over. The deed was done, the punishments were made and carried out long ago.

What the policemen did was wrong period, an on duty officer is there to serve and protect the public, even the public from themselves sometimes, they are not there to serve, participate and protect.

Maybe as men we are accountable, but a woman- not so much. A woman who has so much as one beer, and who wants to "get it on" and advertises it even in verbal format- if you act on it, you can go down for rape. Period.
Its because someone has decided that they are not in full control of their mental faculties with so much as one drink, and cannot therefore, give consent.
So basically, for a female, being drunk is almost a ticket out of a bad one night stand that she's embarassed about, and a felony charge for the guy.

Theres alot of merit in what you say as a double standard, but the fact remains that an on duty police officer has to remain above all that and act accordingly.
-

I agree that this shows a lack of good judgment on the part of the officers. When they display their next lack of good judgment will it be another Oscar Grant dying because of their inability to use common sense? Unprofessional behavior is grounds for termination from more jobs than just as a public servant as a police officer.
-

Exactly.
