Title: A8's lost a great member and Friend today
Post by: rstel01 on February 22, 2009, 01:29:46 PM
Unfortunately, We received the horrible news that one of our own, A8WB passed away suddenly.

Most of you have probably flown with him (or received supplies from him :) ) through the course of your play.

Besides being a squaddie, he was a good friend and one would usually find him on at any hour (I don't think he ever slept!)

Warren, I'll miss you my friend.

My thoughts and prayers go to the fam and deepest condolences to the A8s for the loss of a squaddie :salute

WB was my best friend and he got me into this crazy game.  His family will appreciate the kinds words here.

He was a stickler about fair play.  He never trashed talked.  He was an honorable man.  He loved the A8's and enjoyed everyone's fellowship, respected foes alike.

Having known him so long - I know exactly what he'd expect: friends and foe to tip a few, play fair, fight and have fun.

<S> A8WB...  I miss you already.

WB was a "Player's Player". He once spent 3+ hours in a goon, sitting on the ground, waiting patiently for the rest of his Squaddies to subdue an airbase and kill the town. He never complained. His tour of duty on Squad Night usually lasted 12 to 14 hours, half of which he spent runnng supplies. He never complained. Every base the Aces & 8s have taken over the last 2 years, he remained in town until the buildings popped. He never complained.
And now God has taken him home, leaving behind some pretty big shoes to fill. The biggest one being the ability to help a fellow player, uphold the highest standards of the Aces & 8s and promote the true spirit of Aces High. I will try my best to live up to WB's standards. I will not complain.
Salute WB. Until we meet again.

WB was never one to play for score, he played to be a part of the team. His leadership was subtle, he would beat you with kindness until you felt so bad you wanted to be right next to him. He was a special glue for our squad because we never had to worry who was watching the mint, he was. We never had to ask for resupply on base, he did. We never had to watch our backs, he was doing that for us. For every crappy job out there, WB had a smile and a how soon do you want it done attitude. He loved our squad, and he loved the game. He was always one to forgive, forget, and say something nice about an adversary when we were grumpy.
The AH community has lost a wonderful man, our squad a wonderful teammate and the world a great and loving man. Until we meet again WB, <S> Bro!

There are very few people in this game who stand out, or that I can, in the course of my day, recall something said, or something done, and think 'what a nice thing to do'. WB was one of those people. Never saw his face, or shook his hand. It's a shame that we lose good people like WB it seems, all too often. I've been a Rook since I started playing AH almost 4 years ago. The A8s have always been kind to me, never an ill word or gesture, and WB actually taught me how to dive bomb in a Hellcat. He didn't have to, it was selflessness and I will always appreciate that from someone. Guys this is a game, and we can carry any persona we care to. Genuine kindness, even to a 'noob' back then, goes a long way. Peace be with you A8s and to WBs family. He is now in the uncapturable base in the sky, waiting for us all to join him.  :salute

WB, Warren Hsieh, was also a child actor in Hollywood. Co-starring in several major blockbuster movies, such as, The King and I with Yul Brenner, South Pacific, McHales Navy, My Three Sons, etc. In the Disney Anniversary DVD of "Follow Me Boys", with Fred MacMurray, WB is interviewed as an adult in the Bonus Features section.
Here is a photo of Warren in his younger days with British-born film director Samuel Fuller, on the set of the film, 'China Gate'.

I just learned of WB's passsing, sad news indeed.

I recall many a time sitting on a vbase or in a town someplace just chatting with him long after everyone else left. WB was a great guy, and a great player. While i no longer play this game, he was one of the few that kept me around long after the desire to play this game waned, simply for the late night GV action where i always found him where i was, and the good times and conversations we had.

Thank you for those times WB. Godspeed my friend.

:salute Warren A8WB. Can't tell you how many times I have followed his M3 resupplying a base. Truly a gentleman, I never heard a harsh word or criticism from him. By association, he taught me to dive bomb accurately, as I was taught my his former pupil T24. Well said T24 on your eulogy for WB.

A proposal..a memorial flyby in the Main Orange Arena Friday Feb. 27 to honor the memory of Warren, 7pm, or perhaps a funeral train of m3's.   Right behind ya Wb..see ya when I get to base!

Cant thank you all enough for the kind thoughts and words for A8WB.

His family was told last night about the flyby (missing man formation) performed in his honor by the Excals for the A8's and they were very touched.

His service in Hollywood will begin at 2:30pm PST - raise a glass at that time and <S>!!!  I am delivering the eulogy and his family wanted me to make sure to include honoring the Aces and Eights - his pals, which of course is a given.

On behalf of his family and friends <S> ------>  the class and honor of people "playing" this "game" astounded me.

Just a thought...  Did anyone get video of the missing man formation flown for WB?  It'd be a good thing to post it as a speperate thread.  Maybe other squads would do the same and post their videos for him.  After that, make it into a tribute video including all of the posted vids.  It'd be a nice thing to do...  Again, just a thought.

Yes we did get film of the fly-by. I believe one of our members is putting together alittle something with it. Wether or not it makes it to this forum is up to him and the squad . I would like to see a tribute thread and I like your idea AAJagerX.

<S> Excalibers, awesome job everyone. It means alot to our squad. I'll be the first to admit it, when you flew over with the peel off plane, it brought tears to my eyes.

Many thanks to everyone! The Memorial Flights, Last Roll Call Ceremony and the endless posts and emails from hundreds of our friends in the AH community.
Special thanks are given to Bwaa of the Excaliburs for keeping the A8s informed of WB's status at all times. WB and Bwaa have been real life friends for 35+ years.
The A8s appreciate the outpouring of condolences, kind words and prayers for A8WB. Warren would have been a little embarrassed by all the attention, but in the same tought, proud to have left such an impression on so many.
Now the time has come to let this thread pass into the archives and continue play. Warren would want it that way.

Salute! A8balls
