Title: HiTech - with today's crappy economy....
Post by: Eagler on February 26, 2009, 08:32:01 AM
any consideration given to a reduction of cost if say we prepay for a year?

what about $150 up front for the next 12 months instead of 180?
You could even throw in a fancy T-shirt like FA used to do :)

just want to pay for my fix while I still have a job.... <S>

They already give you a discount if you prepay for a year.

My guess is the crappy economy is affecting HTC just as much as any other company...perhaps more so since they are a small company.  They already give a discount for yearly pre-pays (which they don't have to do in the first place)...don't take more food out of their mouths.  We are all affected, and some re-alignment of priorities may be necessary from us all.

...and not to put a further damper on this thread, but $15 a month is nothing.

If one cant easily find $15 a month to play this game after all the other bills are taken care of and food is on the table, etc, then it is time to trim your beer budget, smokes budget, pRon budget, or other such "fun" budget in order to play.  If one stop and thinks about it spending $15 a month to play this sim/game as much as you like is quite cheap vs going to a bar and paying $15 for 3-4 beers in an hour or so should be a no brainer.   ;)

lol

I don't smoke - just trying to save everywhere I can (been a member since AH was $30 a month way back in the old days)

anyone know how to pay for a year in advance? what's the cost savings for any of you that have?

15 bucks is not a big deal now  - just hoping/planning it will never be ..

That's the solution in a nutshell.  Because everyone is worried about losing their job they are hording cash.  This just leads to less revenue for companies meaning they must reduce their costs.  Hence the job cuts, and so more fear, and more hording of cash.

Like I said in another thread in the O'Club...

The economy needs the average consumer to spend more like an alcoholic needs one last drink before sobering up.

I think more are trying to manage their debt than they are hording cash.  Economic expansion based on loose and endless credit can only go so far.

well, if they're managing their debt, they're still spending. the fact is, that things need to be bought. no one buys this widget, eventually ace widget company lays off some of the workforce. that doesn't save em, they they close their doors. now there's former employees, not only hoarding their money, but collecting unemployment, thus adding double load to the system. and then of course it snowballs from there.

now, i'm obviously no financial expert or wiz.........but this would seem to make sense though.

True, but the problem in each case is the same: the withdrawal has the potential to be so severe that it kills the addict.

nope, i don't think they're fake. they can however be manipulated though to look worse or better. politicians do that kinda stuff all the time. that being said, i do realize that unemployment is higher now than it has been in a loong time.

in 1978, i was 15, and that's when i got my first job. i've not been longer than 2 months without a job ever since, and going that long was very very rare. there's always someone looking for help somewhere. you might hafta do a poop job that you don't like, but they're out there.

ooo..and my point with the statement you quoted........if there's help wanted signs in the philly/south jersey area, then i highly doubt that other areas of the country are very different.

not trying  to be a wise arse........just sayin........

ask them for a bail out afterwards.
do you already have something else lined up? or did they blindside ya?

seriously, that's what i'm trying to say though. you're losing your job, because people are hoarding their money now, and not buying like they used to......regardless of whether or not it's a product, or service.

put it another way.

you work for ace widgets. they're kicking but. selling widgets faster than the can make em. so many, that they have to hire someone to help you produce them.

now the talking heads start talking about how bad things are. they keep harping on the dow dropping(although when it goes up, they just barely whisper it). now people are somewhat nervous. ace isn['t selling as many widgets now. so they lay off the new guy. the talking heads harp on unemployment going up now, and less goods being sold. now spending is so off, that ace is barely able to pay their utilities, and suppliers, so they lay you off, and curtail ops to skeleton crew.
now, everyone is laid off from ace, except for 1 person. more talk of unemployment going up. more talk of dow dropping. more people not spending now, as they're scared. laid off people stop spending too(for obvious reasons) thus causing other companies to have to lay off people. they in turn stop spending. those not laid off, stop spending, due to fear of being laid off. the economy comes to a screeching halt, all thanks to the talking heads on the news shows. it fuels itself. it is horrible, and i do feel bad for those(like you and sunka) that've lost their jobs....you've no clue how bad i feel about that. i also realize that there's other deeper reasons for the problems we have right now too. but the fact is, had they not harped on this poop, people would've kept spending their money, and ace widgets would still be kicking but.

again, i know there's deeper things causing problems too, and i am not judging anyone.........it's just what i think.

Sorry, but that just isn't true. People were spending like drunken sailors because banks were giving them credit. The government was doing it because foreign investors gave it credit. When that credit started to dry up due to a number of factors, none of them having much to do with media coverage, the spending had to stop.

There's a limit to how much you can spend without actually having the money. As a nation, we just smacked into that limit like a bug hitting a windshield at 90 mph.
Title: Re: HiTech - with today's crappy economy....
Post by: Eagler on February 27, 2009, 12:51:41 PM
yep - it ain't that we are not spending that is the problem, the cause of this mess is that people SPENT money they did not have -  credit cards and/or mortgages.

the money was NEVER there and now we have the gov is trying to re-inflate that false credit balloon by pumping money into one side of it not realizing or ignoring the fact that there is a huge hole on the other side releasing anything they throw into it faster than they can pump.

SAVE your money now - while you still have it .. unless you want to be on government assistance the REST OF YOUR LIFE

but even saving your money may not help as when they are through printing the "free" money, the dollar will be worthless - you may have a fair job but you'll be no further ahead as everything will cost 6x as much as it should .. we are truly:

Rule #451

Never ask for more and it to also be cheaper in the same sentence.
Title: Re: HiTech - with today's crappy economy....
Post by: mechanic on February 27, 2009, 10:54:39 PM
Asking for cheaper aces high is like seeing a fair deal and still trying to knock a bit off. The shop keeper put the apples on display at that price to ensure they sell, you can't ask for another discount from a fair trader. The ones who sell high price apples are who you haggle with, imo.
It hangs in a balance, even $1 per month less from every player might make a large difference. They have worked out the balance that offers a fair price with a surviving business. With respect Eagler, what you are asking for is cheaper and better quality apples right now, even if it means the apples one day run out.

jesus h.

it's very simple.. htc will charge what the market will bear.

Despite the fretting, most of us can still afford $15 a month.

HTC will adjust prices if the math shows they need to.

Title: Re: HiTech - with today's crappy economy....
Post by: Kotari on February 28, 2009, 05:21:34 AM
If that 15/mo seems too much, would it be any different if it would be 14/mo ?

People thinking HTC can cut their prices down to half are seriously tripping with wrong ingredients.
They still have business to run, salaries to pay and hopefully continue to provide us service that is very cheap entertainment in my books.

Im fighting the urge to start pointing at the general direction who started this bloody mess in the first place, and allready the second time in the past century i might add, are the cause of GLOBAL recession.
Yes, its not just you yanks who are suffering, every day we have news of people getting laid off...
