I left with a full tank, gained plenty of speed and jumped into a little furball. Made sure to not compress, kept my speed up as I made many unsuccessfull passes.
About 10-15 minutes into my sortie I was HO'd by a Typhy, caught my engine on fire and I crashed... Hmmmm.. I am not as dissappointed as I thought I'd be. = )
-
I myself hate flying that thing...U have to have lots of patience something I don't have much of anymore :salute

You'd be surprised what not even getting a kill in one can do. You'll knock almost everyone off of their perch and if mildly aggressive, force them off of their "game."
You'll get better info, just practice offline in it and farm more perks.

Absolutely. The intimidation factor, even if you never fire a shot, makes it fun to fly. And if you manage to lose an engine, a one-engine approach and landing in that thing is a real blast. :uhoh

Pointers from a noob 262 pilot:
Don't HO anything, unless it's a bomber.
Just fly around, make passes, etc. As said above, you'll scare just about everyone. Keep it fast and fly right around the fight, people will yell "262!" and everyone will scramble away. It's quite a funny sight.
-
WHY?

WHY?
x2

Yeah flying a jet in an arena filled w/ piston planes....what a dweeb :D :rofl :D
just kiddin round!
-
I recently Just got enough perks to fly the 262 after playing for a year...Changing name once. I'm not going to fly it until i reach 1000 perks where...If I do get shot down...Which I know i will....It Won't have that much of an Impact. I do fly it offline though. Make sure there are no hills or trees in your way wile taking off.
-
WHY?
Chits and giggles I guess.
It wasn't very fun, and I probably won't do it again. Unless my squad wants to run a mission with them... = )

When they scramble away, you can pick off the stragglers.

Exactly. I usually get one or two that are AFK.

You can also take the 262 deep into enemy territory. 1/2 sectors behind the front line furball, where all the buffs, alt monkeys and many heavy jabos are taking off. You might be surprised how many of them ignore the tiny red darbar you are causing or even the red dot inside their radar circles and simply go afk... :devil
Take her to 10k first for better fuel economy (higher is often unneccessary), then cut throttle back to 7-8000 rpm. You can cruise for quite some time them while still making 450-500mph
-
IMO the Me262 isn't worth the perks. Try a tempest next time you'll have a lot more fun.

He wasn't talking to you.

All of my 262 kills are Ho and Rams. I Literly ram them and bout 50% of the time i don't lose an important piece.

You won't get shot down. Someone will HO you, knock out an engine and half your control surfaces and you will make a miraculous flight back to base, find it very difficult to slow down, finally get your gear down, get on the runway, overshoot the end and hit a tree, thereby ditching and losing your perk points.
:D
Been there, done that.

What Lusche said. You can single handedly have a big effect on a furball just by holding up the stream of incoming fighters at their base for 5-10min.

That brings up some fun memories.
One time I was able to save a totally capped base. Not by shooting anyone down (fighters aware of your presents are no easy targets) but by flying low and slowing down just enough that they got the impression they could catch me - and most of them (about 10-12) indeed followed me, allowing my countrymen to up and break the cap and get the M3's at town, while I felt like the Pied Pieper of Hamelin ;) No better thing working for you than the enemy's greed
One or two kills at most but I almost laughed my butt off...

I've done that before. You get the plane so you look slow, but in reality you're going fast enough to outrun, and they try to catch you.
-
262's are fun i don't care who ya are. You get every plane in the sector chasing after you thinking they can catch ya. Then it goes out that there is a 262 in X.X sector at 10k and next thing ya know there are 15k-20k ponies everywhere.
I got really good at flying and landing without wing tips. Could atleast get back and land using rudder and throttle.
-
I remember my first 262 run, a few years back....
I will not speak of it. :)
-
All my kills of Me262s are of Me262s that thought it was a good idea to HO my Mossie. I usually die too, but it is worth it to get rid of the negative affects on my side's fighting qualities an Me262 inflicts just by being there.

Curious.... Once I got behind this guy, a quick burst removed his tail, smoked both engines, and spilled his fuel....
I think most will consider this "shot down".. :D

Over here in the Luftwaffe, we stall fight our 262s.
-
Ever gone 1v1 with a spitfrie in a 262 that is intense (like camping). :rock
-
Don't think I've flown a 262 in about a year.
Had a guy buzzin a base with one the other night, so I decided to up one at a nearby base to intercept.
I flew maybe 1/2 a sector over water and directly into the ack of an unseen enemy cv.
Instant death.
God, I love usin that plane! :rock
-
Seems like only yesterday you had your first kill against a 262 . . .

Absolutely! :aok I routinely try to do the same thing by BnZ'ing the enemy field with a Dora. I still can't shoot like you guys can, but I can usually distract 4-5 enemies for a few minutes. Now if I could just get my countrymen to push towards the enemy field instead of furballing 300ft over ours.
-
You guys gotta think even more outside the box.
I rarely use a 262 for serious dogfighting.
As has been pointed out. You can hold up and drive low and into a panic alot of aircraft.
Makes a great way to get from point A to point B for goon hunting.
But there is other things that can be done with it if your willing to take the risk with the perks.
and since I seem to be one of the few that do it.
I think I'll keep it a secret LOL

LOL Target was thinking the same thing. During Infowars probation was his first ever encounter with a 262. Shot it down with a p-51 while on mission. :aok

The 262 is my ride of choice and I will gladly fly with anyone who wants to wing up in the 262.
My first sortie in the turbo resulted in my finding some lone AR-234 at 20k, giving chase, and promptly becoming an artificial reef (the phrase "pardon me while I play through" comes to mind). It was a short but exciting flight. After that I got better
In the hands of an experienced pilot, it is almost unbeatable. But it is not for the "instant action" crowd. Often you have to takeoff behind the lines, fly out behind the forward edge of battle, then look hard for targets. You can also dogfight or stall fight quite well in the Schwalbe. It even makes a pretty good ground attack bird believe it or not. Sometimes you come home with alot of kills, other times it's hard to find a bandit before you get low on the magic juice. Also, I have stretched my range by using the historically accurate method of shutting down one engine in cruise for fuel economy. I really like the new visual model. There are some items that could be adjusted as far as flight modelling goes, but overall I love the 262.

Could you provide me with any reference for that?
The Jumo 004 jet engines were quite unreliable, and restarting them wasn't a task guaranteed to succeed. And I can't think any 262 pilot was eager to getting caught with only one running engine, a thing that could happen to him every moment in late 44 / early 45.
-
Would have been a hell of a ride had the germies installed Six Browning M2s.......
Those subsonic 30mm potatoes have the ballistic properties of tennis balls.

Agreed. In real-life, I wouldn't want to relight one of those things without at least four guys with fire extinguishers standing by. :D

I take the hair dryer out every now and then. It is a lot of fun.
Had a first a couple of nights ago. I killed a 262 with the main gun in my panzer. Shoulda went out and bought lottery tickets that night.
