So I've noticed a large amount of threads denouncing the new players of AH. So I figured why not try to assist the new players, with tips and tricks to move up the AH social hierarchy. I'll go first and the rest can follow.
I'm Coprhead, been addicted for about 3yrs now. I enjoy flying 51s, 40s, and 47s.
My advice to all new players is lose the 8675309 name and pick a call sign that's easy to say and remember.
Welcome to the community.
-
8675309 if you see 3-4 of your friends chasing after 1 plane don't . Make an example! Tell them you're to good for that. :rofl
Just Say No
-
Respect has more to do with how you act than how long you' ve been
playing. Frankly I think some of the more thin skimmed sisters need to
butch it up and stop worrying about status and "respect".
-
There were those in the past like Sysprobe who would help newcomers and join thier plane to help them get started. Now your best Info will be found in the Training Arena because most are very impatient with noobs in the MA asking "How do I take off" or "How do I fire Rockets?" You can teach yourself by studying control settings with much trial and error but try not to annoy the "seasoned" for they will smite you with thier wit. :O
-
Oh, another thought, ALT-F4 does not equal hyper drive or unlimited ammo. It does close AH quickly in case your Mrs/Mr/Boss shows up with their laser guided puffy ack.
-

Untrue, as long as the person isn't looking to be spoon fed.

I thought Alt f4 gave me invisibility like harry potters cloak ! :lol
-
Just like you read the real world of air combat is you have to keep looking around you even when you are busy fighting and shooting someone down. The more eyes there are in your immediate area the fewer people there are actually looking around. It was the same way in World War II. NEVER depend on a check six from anyone.
If ever you get shot on the runway even once move to another field.

[hijack]
...and anyone who's been around enuff' KNOWS that 8675309 is Tommy TuTone's shade account.
yea this one !

It gives the game such powerful invisibility that you have to start the game up all over again when you use it. ;)
-
Wait, tommy tutone wasn't the name of a guy though... it was the name of the entire band. I don't know what that guy's name was...it was tommy something or another, but not tutone.

<3 Jenny
Tommy Heath (googled).
There was a guy who's handle was 8675309. Used to tell him "check 6 Jenny". Best numbers to pick for a nubers guy.

Oh god yes that great advice
It will make it a ton easier to give a proper check 6 (sometimes there isnt time to cycle through the names)

Course reading the instructions in the help section is COMPLETELY out of the question.
What I did when I first started playing is print out the keyboard commands for easy refrence.
I dont mind helping new players. But I do expect them to learn the basics like. Starting your engine, and taking off on their own.

Actually alt-F4 will stop other players from seeing your plane..... :)
Those who type "alt-F4" to any enquiry a new player makes are a bit sad IMO. Losing a newbie through rudeness does no one any good in the long run. If any "vet" finds new players that annoying, they can just squelch them. Either that or actually answering the question takes no more time than typing this ever-so-witty reply.

I would say treat new commers as you would want to be treated, I'm sure everybody here was a so called newbee once.

I definitely try to help out but should get some basics down before attemting MA.We all had to start somewhere
-
I'd never respect anybody who worries about whether they're being respected
-
I apologize in advance as I read just the first few posts and someone has probably said this..
I think respect should be earned and not appropriated to those who've been playing an
especially long time.. Granted, a good majority of these ol'timers (playing since AW, etc)
are good guys with lots of patience and quite generous when it comes to showing other guys
how it's done (playing and interacting with others in a respectable manor).
However, there are also a few who demand respect just because they've been part of the
community forever and think they run the place.. From them, you hear words like traitor..
This word in particular.. I could name a handful right now.. But we all know who these people are.. :noid :noid :noid
And then they make assumptions that you're just a scumbag in real life or cheat on your wife
or beat your kids because you don't play a frackin' video game the way they expect you to..
I would just as soon open my fly and give these people my blessing..
All in all, this game is a microcosm of the rest of the world.. It will only get worse as the
standards drop..

One possible recipe: fly a few years, read, listen, learn, try everything and never whine :)

Well Steve,
there is the word "Respected" in the original question ;)

I think one important thing is being polite to everyone (doesn´t count Hoers :D), even to not so great sticks. My favorite guy is Gianlupo, good stick and polite and he´s got a great avatar :)

One of the best avatars on the BBS, and one of the better people in the game.
Gian is good peopole.
(even if he does steal all of Wrags kills)

Which type of respected vet are we talking about, the one that gets on 200 and tears you up if you shoot them down or the on that still knows how to salute. Some of the "respected vets" aren't very respectable.

Its the way you shoot them down bud, I love it when you have 3v1 and all planes are flying low and slow, thats not a bad gang because it really does help your stick skillz but when someone who enters the fight late with 350mph under their butt it doesnt help at all for the person getting the kill or the person being ganged. Honestly my advice for newcomers is to go to TA or get in the DA with someone who is a good stick. I have never been to the TA but had acouple of "vets" help me out in the DA getting the basics down then I just found out what worked for me in MA after alot of practice.
OH and dont assume the answer to all the problems is to drop the hangars you will have alot more fun in the long run if you learn how to truly fight :salute
-
5point, its not 8675309...its 999000! if you want respect you just have to have the right number!
<S> 999000

How come you wont talk to youre former squaddies anymore 5point / coprhead ?? what did we do to ya is it cause were all noobs or just cause shukes has gas??

How to go from Noob to Respected Vet
These behaviors might be useful in your quest:
- Fly as a team member foregoing your rank and score.
- Get a significant number of your kills in non-uber-planes.
- Only use the re-arm pad when your fighter hangers are down.
- When flying in fighter planes set score\perk to fighter (not Attack).
Most importantly have fun flying. The above suggestions are linear in scope by design.

Respectable, how about not posting tard posts like me. They might not like me ,but they will respect me. hehee

Social Hierarchy. :lol
-
Truthfully, i think its partially your experience time, i have been playing AH for almost 6 years now, and there are some that have been playing longer. The longer you play and the more known and respected squads you get in, the less you will be considered a "noob"

Try typing instead of talking on range, most people only enjoy a womans voice. When people call for supplies or a gunner, be on the ball and join them, they may return favor and respect you.

Belial good post. :aok
+1

dont let others tell you what to do. fly enjoy the game that YOU PAY for. thats simple enough.

One word answer: Humility.

Respect has more to do with how you act than how long you' ve been
playing. Frankly I think some of the more thin skimmed sisters need to

Bing bing bing
We have a winner,... I expected nothing less.
Good point.
IMO
People wouldn't look for it or notice it nearly as much if it weren't an everyday conversation on the BBs. Kinda like the ability if CNN sensationalizing water existing in a rock,.. every 15 minutes.
Me bets people who don't use the BBs have a much tamer view of the issues then those who do. There's people in here who refuse to let anyone forget about anything and the virus spreads to someone else who will do the same 3 months later. Slowly moving onto to any newish issues, or real ideas or concerns. Something will never change, move onto those you can, maybe their butts will follow. You're NEVER going to produce a perfect world for everyone. If you're not going to lead by example then consider shutting up. :)
If I had to put a label on some it if I'd have to say some are drama queens of sorts. But then, that has always been hasn't it? For decades now, in other sims too. Some of the vets seem to have this market cornered.
The sim works, I have fun. If I see something I don't like, I wait 5 minutes I'll see something I do.

For Cheat press ALT + F4!!!!
But seriously i useually take newplayers under my wing and help them thats how i got to where i am <S>

Training Arena...
It is there for a reason.

There are no respected vets. They all left along time ago :aok

Better answer.
-
There are no respected vets. They all left along time ago :aok
I doubt that is true. How long you been flying sims? Something like 12 years or more?
IMO some "vets" act more newish then noobs at times. If they aren't respected they aren't earning it.
-
The answer's very simple... Put in an effort.
Say what you will about [insert any good stick notorious for mouthing off on 200 here], but I have NEVER seen them knock a guy for trying.

We are all noobs in HT's eyes.
-
We are all noobs in HT's eyes.
wrong. Dweebs. You are all dweebs. and always will be.
As for being a noob it is always best to offend as many people as possible with phrases such as... "you retards couldnt kill me if I flew in a straight line in a c47." preferably direct this at the top scorepotatos as they might actually fall for it.
This way all the dweebs who have played long enough to be living without carnal knowledge of a woman for many years while dwelling in their mother's basements will come looking for you.
By this you will not only gain infamy but also might even get the chance to increase your skill level by fighting so many angry dweebs.
but thats just the first step. The true mark of dedication is you keep doing this until your dweeb skills become such that all the basement dwellers actually can not kill you at all no matter how much you egg them on.
And then my son... You will be a Dweeb.

When your dont care if people think your a noob or not
-
you're not a noob anymore when you can:
1. raise and lower landing gear and flaps without asking how to do it.
2. start and stop engine without asking
3. when you think ho'ing isn't cool but rather infantile and shows that the other guy is too chicken to fight you fairly
4. when you much prefer a 6 o'clock shot to any other shot
5. when you can land without bouncing your teeth out of you mouth or ripping off the wings, landing gear, and propeller.
6. when you feel that you don't need to join the 4 on 1 gang, and want give that single pilot a half a chance.
7. when you give a guy a pilot wound, engine oil hit, take out a flap, a elevator, an aileron and half a wing and don't have the need to finish him off but rather let him try to land it.
8. fly something other then a spit 16 because its more of a challenge then the easy mode plane.
9. survive a 1 on 1 with some dude named N72.
10. you can understand why Jaeger1 kills don't count

I like that list, if we had more player that played with the mentality, this game could rise to new hights.... heck the AvA might even see more action ;)
-
oh no!! not that!!! hehehe actually thats the short list. i could think of alot more things, but didnt want to bore anyone.
-
Rule 11: Steal VW's kills whenever you can :D (or he'll use you as bait! LOL)
RTR
-
actually fugitive, that is how we fly the AVA. its just when new people come in there and dont know the playing style, that things get a bit out of hand. of course everything is blamed on one particular squad so it doesnt really matter how you play in the AVA. personally yes i love to see everyone play by those guidelines but it will never happen with the " its my $15" mentality. cartoon life isnt the same as real life.

Welcome to the community.
detune 200 seems like most newbies see 90% of idiots on 200 whineing or calling names or crying cheater its the first thing they pick up is this is how your supposed to act.
ask firsk about every thing to gun or what your sountrymen need. and as you ask. you will get some saying alt f4 or go da you noob. these are the guys yoiu want to ignore and stay away from. or you will not be respected same as they are notrespected. No matter how long you play.
bring supplies or ask gvs if they need supplies, ask pilot in a fight if he needs your help or not. even if your not a great pilot u can help guy in touble just by buzzing in on enemy on his 6.
there are some on all sides i would tell newbies to watch how they act. Bishops COOLEY, GHI to name a few. knights vonholtz, most of ak squad bring back akcurly. rooks xbrit, lynx wmlute and many more
don't join first squad that invites you. get some flying time under your belt in DA or main arenas then your choice will be better. joining wrong squad could lead you down slippery slope theit play and rants could rub off on you. if invited research squad watch how they treat others and play game.
