Title: damage model
Post by: opposum on April 20, 2009, 05:51:04 PM
I would like to wish for this damage model, I am sure most of y'all have seen it and have drooled over it too:

This ( to me ) seems to be the most accurate damage model anyone can ask for

This would be my dream come true

The part where the round is tracked through the tank is the part I would like to see the most.

what do y'all think of it?

I am not sure what to say.  I am not familiar enough with the AH damage model to render judgement.  Is this more or less stringent than what we have in Aces High?

Looks like Aces High's damage model for planes, although the GV model (Aces High's) doesn't seem as well detailed once it enters the tank.

The damage model obviously works in practice REAL well lmao. One round from an SMLE causing a Tiger to explode :rofl

Certainly would be nice to get something similar for the aerial aspect of the game. Would be nice to have more than just two points of a wing snapping and more random oil leaks than the one we have which simply puffs smoke.

Yes, I know it's difficult. Simply dreaming.

I bet people whine. "YOU KILLED ME WHEN YOU WERE ON FIRE AND YOUR CREW DEAD YOU HAXXOR" in that game.

Awesome, seen it before but it is impressive.......... :salute
And on another note, I know a lot of people  say "its a flight sim not a tank sim" but I think that there are as many players in GV's now as there are in planes.

My only problem with damage models is technical:  how much time(machine, xmit, server calc, return, etc) would very enhanced modeling require?  I already find a certain lag in collision models, as they sometimes seem to show collisions on the film that appeared, to me at least, to have been near misses in realtime.

I'm a big enthusiast of realistic modeling, and appreciate things such as B17 wing root weakness, but would hate to see anything that would cause more lag, especially since when I'm at home I'm stuck with the Comcast high speed hell, designed to minimize packet size rather than maximize packet flows.

We already are doing all you are asking for. In fact that would almost be an exact film of the way we do things with vehicle damage.

No they don't whine about it, I have been playing that game for over a year now and I have yet to hear a whine about that.

Could we see a preview,

You can not see a preview of what has been for many years.
Really just look at that film, we are doing the same thing, armor thickness, slowing of bullets, multiple penetrations, angle of impact.

It even happens that we also make a different damage shape to  describe the damage model.

Could it be possible one of us post a thread that wishes for burning tanks that kill the crew from smoke and heat?

How is that different from what already happens? You hit the engine and the tank explodes killing the crew.
I mean I'm sure there's more to it than that :)
Just because HTC hasn't come and embellished it like the guy in the video does doesn't mean there's some striking contrast between the two damage models.
