As the tittle says, any help with figureing out what airplane this is would be greatly apreciated (I saw it and photographed it at the NAF El Centro Airshow last month, but couldn't find anything about it everywhere I looked). No real reason for it other than just wanting to know and maybe getting to know a little bit more about the plane. My guess is that it was a trainer.
:salute

No sir, I didn't. Thank you!
That goes to show how good I am with Russian.
Though a little humiliated, objective accomplished, lol.

Not everyone reads Cyrillic. The backwards R is "ya" and the k is a k. The wing on the other side of "experimental" says "experimental" though it's not pronounced quite the same. If I had to make a wild guess (more or less) I'd say it was owned by a yank, though, given the cockpit is paangliskii.

And the U.S. registration number on the fuselage....
And, being parked in California and all.

you notice the name on the nose yak- 52?
You do realize that it's written in Russian

Still is. Primary trainer of the Russian air force. Pretty bird. :)

Looks like a reverse engineered Texan to me.

The chinese build a yak-52 and call it the CJ-6. Any of you old farts
remember Eyeballs from AW, he owned one.

Only similarities are radial engine and tandem cockpit. Everything else looks completely different. I guess you need to take a second look at that Texan.

Wasn't he and eye doctor/eye surgeon, something like that?

Yep, think he was from Arizona. The last time I remember talking to him,
he was discussing upgrading to a T-28 Trojan or possibly an L-39.

Having flown both I like the design/operation of the T-6/SNJ more than the Yak. The Yak I've flown the most has been modified with hydraulic brakes instead of pneumatic (a good thing!) but retains the pneumatic systems on everything else that should be electric (starter) or hydraulic (flaps/gear) which is cheesy. The bicycle grip pneumatic system on unmodified Yaks sucks.
The CJ-6 to my eye looks better/worse in some ways to the -52. I like the canopy shape and the slightly canted wing. I don't like the single flap on the CJ-6 and like the Yak's tail design more.
Flying qualities the Yak (especially a Tailwheel 52) is light, sporty and very good. The SNJ/T6 is a truck. Coolness factor goes to the North American product hands down. Affordability to the Yak.
Come to think of it I'll take one of each! :lol

Take a pill or Hans Gruber will get you.

Is it True when the first Yak-52's came out they used RT sets powered by Pneumatics.
