And while we're at it how about a little button to press that outputs all text from the buffer into a neat little log.txt file.

To what end?

Why is this request important?

So you can post films and complain about people without naming names.  A witch hunt with an anonymous witch as it were.

IMO that's just dishonest. You gonna post somebody being a tard, post it and let their name show for all to see.

Moot wants to be able to show training movies without making anyone feel sheepish, maybe.

because its the game play that is lame, not necessarily the game PLAYER, or what he's showing in a film is the maneuver, or lack of and there is no reason to embarrass the pilot involved, and maybe he has a little class  :D

You can turn off icons but the name of the players is still in the register to the right. I believe that is what he is wishing to have the option to remove

I understand the reason for the wish but I really have no preference one way than the other.

I applaud the Op's intentions and think this is a good idea. +1

Personally, as a trainer, I'd really like to have the option to remove the other player names from my films as well.

If I'm posting films I'd like to have the option to show/discuss the tactics involved without the possible embarassment to the other player by showing his/her name and then pointing out all the mistakes they made that allowed me to kill them.

From a training/teaching perspective I'd like be able to show films and say "Look at how this guy did this and/or that, which allowed me to this..."  The "anonymous" factor would be appreciated...  Without it, I for one am very conscious of the fact that some may take the posted film as an example of me killing a certain player (which could look like bragging), when what I want to do is focus on the tactics...

mtnman - Thank you, that's exactly the intent.  Now I don't have to reply to Krusty and part of wrgway's post.

On the other hand, it could probably be abused with accusations of hacking, cheating, being total dweebs....

Film some known stick stirrer, remove the name, post it for all to see and remove the name, and claim it's m00t, or Krusty, or whomever.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with posting a training film of somebody and stating "This is just for example's sake" and 99% of all folks reading the post and downloading the .ahf file will know and understand it's educational in nature.

The rest of the community may not use it so wisely.

You must be kidding, Krusty. Are you saying you and the rest of the community couldn't figure out that names were not attached and the accusation would be suspect? As long as there is a choice to make the film available with or without names, what harm would it do?

I think it is a great idea, M00t, and I hope it gets implemented.

I've been dwelling on this one for over a week............

I am now totally in agreement.  +1

Forget about the silly people who will try to flame an innocent.  That'll happen regardless.

It is great for training newbs though.  I don't want my newbs seeing names with ACM, I just want them to see ACM.  Newguy76 doesn't need to know m00t just shot me down because of my target fixation, I'd rather him just see that SA is darn important!!!

+1

(Newguy76 is a fictional reference to all newbs)

Just the names and not the other data in the box with the names?  One of the most important training tools in a film is the actual speed and range associated with the aircraft in the "name" box.

I would think the easiest way to remove names would be to do away with that box but that would also do away with the most pertinent information in a film.  Detail.

Otherwise, Frap it up and make it a .wmv or something.

-1 (again)

Absolutely. The other information should stay. All that was asked for was names.

Potentially useful feature.  Good idea.  I can't fathom why anyone would be against it.

I like the idea, but I still like to watch films where you can see what others are doing, and who they are and tactics that that person uses to fly.  And yes the occasional film where you catch someone that claims they never do something foolish, I think its fine the way it is for just that reason, you cant hide from Big Brother.

As the OP said, have it as an option. Leave it up to the poster to make his / her point in the way they want to.
