LW Arena peeps say MW is this or that. MW peeps say LW is that or this. AvA'ers claim to be gentleman and yadda yadda yadda! well guess what, I've been HO'd in all of them. Twice in the last two days I fell victim to it and was told "it takes two to HO" LOL I never fired a shot so there goes that argument. They are all the same to me. I know everyone will say their version of what is good and right and bad and wrong. Guess what, there is no answer. As long as AH has more than a couple people playing, there will be many varying opinions. It will ebb and flow from this side to the other back to another more than you will ever be able to count.
Can't we agree to just get along and just not do it anymore. Of course we can't. So what do we do?
Eureka!!!
Hey HiTech can you please add a HOing Arena. Once you enter it you can never play in the others, ever.
Problem solved! :rofl

Amen Ratpack amen!
-
then there wouldn't be anything to cry about on here or 200. Everyone will die.

Some of us might get confused with the "HOing" arena after coming home late from the bar, and go in thinking it's something else. Then we would be banned from the others for our confusion :cry.
How about we call it the "Jousting with guns arena" :aok

Not sure why you would merge nose to nose and not fire a shot, at least that way you'de have a 50/50 chance of getting out.
Otherwise, point your nose away and jink a little, or try a leading turn on your opponent. At least you'de force them into a high angle deflection shot if nothing else, and you might position yourself better for the fight.
If you're looking for chivalry, best to go to DA against someone you agree to the rules with (no firing on nose to nose merges) or something like that. Otherwise expect to get shot at and use that factor to your advantage.
-
I try to avoid it whenever possible. Can't always get that way.
-
Well best one is most will call it " high angle deflection" ok fine. Its a fact of life in any arena, I love clean merges, they rock. How often do I get one? Say about 1 in 25. :(
I can jink, I can climb, I can dive at 400 mph plus. Bottom line is this IMHO. If one pilot is intent on doing it, its gonna happen, PERIOD! There are some out there who are really good at throwing a plane in some crazy angles and what not on the merges for sure. Many would consider ther shots HO's, really they are not, but I'd love to see them pull those tricks with a real plane :lol
Bottom line, most of what allot of us see as a HO, really may not be. But damn I would love to see just what the other guy has in a equal merge more often then I do. In the end it really matters not to me, I'm just here for the fun, I'm not sure why they even keep scores
:salute

well guess what, I've been HO'd in all of them.
Have you reviewed the films after the fight? I used to think that I was getting HO'd quite often. Then, when it happened a few times with a player I very much respected, I looked at the films afterward. Turned out that from his perspective the shots weren't anywhere near HOs, it was all a connection issue.
Since then I have been very careful before I call anyone out for a HO.

i wrongly accused slapshot once. i made a biiig fuss about it in the arena. then when i logged off, i watched the film. i was waaay off. i apologized here in the bbs for it. the others, i watched the films, and they were.
you do make a good point though/

DREDger has it here. The DA with an ROE against an opponent is where you need to go if you're into "fencing".
What I see as the simple fact of the matter is that the MA is a war. It's not "fencing". There is no concern lower on my list than what the current red con I'm fighting thinks is "gentlemanly". There are so many things horribly wrong with the MA there's really no place to begin. If you're coming up in a cheesy, out of historical context LA7 to strafe the troops my squad spent 10 minutes trying to get in you WILL get HO'd. Sorry. I don't make it a policy to HO because I want to live, but I will make exceptions based on the situation I'm presented with like what I just stated.
Remember what Captain Miller said in Saving Private Ryan when Goldberg was whining that taking the 88's was not part of their "mission objective"? He said "the mission is to win the war!"
And there you have it. If you don't want to fight in the war, go to the DA. You can have your fencing competitions all day long.

I predict that this will now go very badly. You sir used a fair number of "buzz" words/phrases that are going to set off a few folks...

Be Advised:
Usually I'm in a P-47D-11 or SpitMkI.
I will go out of my way to HO you, especially if you are in a DweebXVI/XIV, LA, or other low ENY Plane.
:O :rofl :rock

maybe he's not a skilless jousting dork like you. :aok

Well it does take two players to merge head on, which is easy to avoid. :aok

You are not talking about a legitimate front aspect shot, you are talking about commiting cartoon suicide. Its a cartoon game and all is fair in cartoon love and war, but I just have a bad feeling about cartoon suicide. Bad cartoon MoJo imo.

HO'ing can be lame but whining about being HO'ed is twice as lame.
Stop whining.

+1
If an enemy plane takes me out with a head on shot, which is very rare I might add, then I have no one to blame but myself... L2P people.

As far as I'm concerned I'm now firmly in the moot camp. Bring the film and let is speak for itself. If you actually get HO'd and didn't accept the joust then you need to spend a bit of time in the TA (just ask and i'll gladly help). Same for FQ shots, if you get tagged on a FQ shot you either got out flown or did something wrong. FQ shots are snapshots by definition. A huge % of ACM is devoted to moving a con from a tracking profile out to the snapshot window. A huge % of ACM is devoted to moving a fight from a neutral footing to an offensive posture where the perception of a shot window can force an evasive that surrenders any remaining offensive potential.
Yes mutual FQ shots are possible in a 1 on 1 fight. almost all of the good vets will pass on those shots almost all the time. At the same time a FQ shot earned via ACM that comes with risk/reward and a clear intent to manufacture such shot is certainly fair game also. This is no different then a rolling scissor or any other reactive ACM...if the other guy is going to get position 1st then you need to go to plan B....just that simple.
Anybody here tired of lame faceshots post one here...bet you cant find one...when you look at the film (and trust me i have) what you find is lame flying....your own. 99% of the time when I feel I got smacked with a lame shot my own film shows me that the only thing lame was me. If your getting smacked in the face learn better ACM...

I try to avoid it whenever possible. Can't always get that way.
That is practical, I'd avoid the HO whenever you can. Really, it just gives your opponent the opportunity to shoot at you. Gives you a 50/50 chance of survival.
The opponent who is dead set on a the HO is at a disadvantage after the first pass, especially if you can lead turn him. Yes he'll get the first high angle snap shot on you, but you can usually make them miss with some precaution.
When you think about it, the HO opponent is only thinking of that first shot, not the 3 or 4 moves into the dogfight. That can be a big advantage to you. Use the high or low yo-yo for example, or split S before the merge as your first move.
High E planes are best to stay close on the merge, low E planes and you should try to keep separation to get the turn fight started.
But yes, sometimes you just can't avoid it. In that case you have to shoot, at least you have a chance then. The only other result is getting shot at without mounting a defense.. Or a collision.
Good luck :rock

seeing as i usually fing the bad guy above me, i'm generally trying to think of a way to get him to stay low, and a way to gain alt on my evasives.
it finally worked in a spit v spit in ew........

I just hope to one day get the the 6,000+ posts as skyrock has. Does it help to be insulting and non germane to the topic at hand?
Then again maybe not, after all, who could really let this be their entire social scene?

 Maybe you should let cryrock fight his own battles, he certainly goes out of his way to start them.
However, since you are taking the moderator role, maybe you can explain to me how cryrocks original post does not violate forum rule #4. :aok

Again, I was thinking the title of this thread was related to beer...sadly mistaken

cryrock? loz so it is ok for you to insult players, but not me? :devil
I responded to your post that I perceived to be flaimbaiting.....and I was correct....you are a griefer, and as such, will always be on my "to own" list. :aok

HOing is a community issue and no gaming mechanic should ever be insituted to affect that - if people HO, then just try to work around it. . . I agree that HOing makes the game less fun, but its up to the community to educate newer players (like myself) and being inclusive - not by creating new arenas and trying to formalize fun.

Yeah? Well good luck with that.
Preachy types like you have a category for everyone don't you?
You have yet to offer any germane discussion on this thread as I've tried to do, you simply troll for attention. Might explain the colossal amount of posts you show.
-
Dredger.... isn't preachy a category?

I understand the gripe, I hate it when I unsuccessfully am unable to stop being Hoed, but hey that's the breaks. I'm more frustrated when the said attempting HO'er actually is successfull ramming me, or his bud behind me, and I am the only one in the silk, 90% of the time. My solution, get back up in the unfriendly skies and try to not to let history repeat itself. I'll continue to get my skills back to where they once was, and these guys will fall further behind. And to all you great pilots who at the beginning of the merge you start setting up your angle for your pass, ( and not the HO), I will never take a shot at your front, no matter how many times it bites me. My money, my choice, I just salute you.

Wise words from a self described newer player.
When faced with a head on merge, I try to jink in two axes - a step to the side then up or down as appropriate. Then look back to see which way the bad guy broke. The worst case is that he kept running straight - the dreaded HO 'n Run. In that case, land and up on the other side of the map.
