Title: How about a "suprise" this time...
Post by: humble on May 29, 2009, 09:42:03 AM
I know an awful lot of time and work goes into every update. As a result a lot of stuff is leaked out to keep interest up and "frustration" down. One thing I do miss is the lack of unexpected surprises in the recent updates. Way back when we always got a plane (or Vehicle) we were expecting...but also something we didn't anticipate. Hopefully we'll get back to having an unexpected toy under the tree in each update :aok :salute

I know an awful lot of time and work goes into every update.

One thing I do miss is the lack of unexpected surprises in the recent updates. :aok :salute

In this up coming update, I'd love to find:

The F6 to go as fast as it's supposed too...

The Game clock to resemble any American time (eastern, CNT, PAC, MNT)

The text buffer to remember what channels you use instead of erase them once entering the lobby

An extra text buffer choice for PM's or other ( I use squad, country, room, 200 and vox)

Zoom settings to remember like our standard set views do

For all 50 cals to shoot the same

Proper dawn/dusk colors like in AH1 instead of this muddy overcast look

Three uncapturable bases in TT FT ( place the red square on them)

Squelch on/off choices for range

Rockets to fire first and bombs second when you cycle through your ord

Auto boot of tower sitters after 45 min to 1 hour

Hills and trees to be impenetrable by tank rounds when hiding behind them

To be able to land safely when firmly planted in the yellow arrow of tank spawns instead of getting capture, ditch or crash most of the time

Increase ammo hardness as it is a bunker ya know. Radar, troops and fuel are all out in the open.

A message to new players that asks them if they want to visit the TA for training before entering the main....or something on those lines to help them.

I'm sure I can come up with a few other small easy you would think to fix things like adding links to the helpful thinks section, but I'm tired......OMG the useful link section is up. when did that happen, gave up on checking a couple months back..humm

Better make certain there is a Trainer in the TA at all times before you do that.  It would be better to suggest that they visit the Training Web Site.   Then on that site, put the Training schedule and Trainer contact info on the front page, big bold and obvious.  Simply sending them to the TA would be sending them to an empty arena much of the time.

For all 50 cals to shoot the same

Not sure what your getting at here, but this has been discussed before and I have asked the question personally at a previous con.

1) .50 cal guns are a single "object" and it's definition is constant.

2) They can assign an "object" to a plane.

3) When they assign the .50 cal "object" to a plane ... it's characteristics are exactly they same for all planes that they assign it to.

The .50 cal that is mounted on a Mustang is the exact same .50 cal mounted on an F6F/FM2/F4U/Spit16/P-47/P-38/etc.

There are actually two types of .50s found on U.S. fighters.  One is for a normal installation and one is for a synchronized installation.  The P-40B uses a synchronized installation which has a lower rate of fire than the normal version.  They are still the same in a bullet per bullet comparison.

As for them using different characteristics, that's not how the system works.  Lethality, rate of fire, muzzle velocity, armor penetration, etc, is not set on a plane by plane basis.  There's a weapon file that is set up with all that information.  None of that info is defined in any of the plane files, it just says go use this weapon for this hardpoint.  These planes(with the exception of the P-40B) are all set to the same weapon.

Now this is not to say that your perception is wrong.  It's just that what you attribute as the cause of your perception may be what's wrong.  For example, compare the FM2 versus the P-51B.  They have identical guns(I did verify all of these).  Yet you note that one is much more effective than the other.  What other differences are involved that may account for the disparity?  Is it really that you are using different weapons or is it that you are using the same weapons in a different way or against different things?

I would like to see that when one assigns "tower" views ... they remain constant for ALL towers on ALL maps ... just like they are constant for planes.

The .50 cal that is mounted on a Mustang does not shoot like the FM2 or others at all. Any back pressure on the stick makes it shoot low instantly.  Try it.

Post by: moot on May 29, 2009, 11:30:53 AM
That's the plane.  The stick doesn't do anything to the gun except from pulling the trigger.

Slap - I think the problem is that the towers keep your head positions but don't rotate them to match the airfields' rotation relative to the map.

i'm confused? backpressure would pitch the nose up? so if anything, they should go high?

Back pressure would imply positive Gs ... your nose is higher (in an instant) than when you pulled the trigger which would then make it look like you are shooting lower.

The more Gs you pull trying to get "lead" means more "lead" on the target.

ok....now i got it.....although you would actually be shooting higher, it would appear lower......i'll go grab something to drink.......maybe i'll think straighter then.  :noid

yes .... it "appears" because it is true, your are truly shooting lower until your nose can equal the true lead of your target and the offset of the Gs you are pulling.

Think of this ...

You got the garden hose in hand and there is a squirrel at the bottom of a very tall tree.

As the squirrel scrambles up the tree you shoot where he was and adjust upward to his position as he moves up the tree ... the water will always appear (and is) shooting lower on the tree, relative to the squirrel, than where the nozzle is pointed. This will be true until you get the nozzle pointed higher than where the squirrel is traveling on the tree (true lead).

Now throw in a situation where both you and the squirrel are moving ...

Whatever your drinking ... I'll have one.

Quote
The jeeps were heavily armed with combinations of both Browning and Vickers K machine guns. The ex-aircraft Vickers weapons were generally mounted in pairs and a total of up to five machine guns were carried on some vehicles. The effectiveness of this armament firing a mix of ball, armour-piercing and tracer shells can be judged from one assault on an airfield where 12 aircraft were destroyed in a five minute raid. With all guns blazing a single SAS jeep could deliver an impressive 5000 rounds per minute! The net result was that over 400 aircraft had been destroyed on the ground by November 1942. Stirling was finally captured in 1943 but escaped four times before being sent to Colditz where he spent the rest of the war.

Pilots who scream when their planes on fire.

What if we had radio hits.

Flying along communicating with the squad and all of a sudden your radio gets hit....that would suck.......I'd almost trade that to just be able to see behind my F6.
