I am proccessing at MEPS friday and Saturday and I still havnt made up my mind, 11X Infantry or (Thanks to Treize ;) ) 19K M1 Armored Crewman. I really like the idea of Infantry, i like to crawl in the mud, i like ground tactics and all that stuff is REALLy intresting to me, but I also think it would be kick a** to shoot a 105mm gun into a buidling and completely blow it away! I need some advice!
-
Go with Armor. There is less walking but believe me you will get PLENTY of oportunities to crawl in the mud. The main gun IS a lot of fun but so are the additional weapons in the vehicle.
-
Pfft cannon cockers. :P
Infantry
-
Meh, infantry. Crunchy track grease.
:P
-
three letters E.O.D. :aok
-
Armor or Cavalry. Everything else is just there to clean up the mess.
-
12B Combat Engineer. You get to play with demo and also be a grunt at the same time.
-
Pending the Dr's approval, I'm going infantry on Wednesday. So if I were you, I'd probably go Armor so you don't risk winding up in my Platoon and getting lost in the desert

In all seriousness, when I was thinking about it, I had to ask myself; "where can I do the most good?" When I asked the question 18 years ago, in the closing days of the cold war, the answer I came up with was "Naval Intel" That made sense at the time. But with the current global client, I think that I can do more for the country with a couple dozen kids and a rifle than I can in an office somewhere.

Well, I'm 19A so I experienced the 19K and 19D. I hated 19K, I just couldn't take the motion sickness hehe, but I really enjoy the scout side of 19. It's kinda fun sitting in LP/OP reporting in stuff.

ya i am looking at 19D too, but i heard there the same thing as Infantry is todays style warfare. I just want to be the BEST but i also want to have a slightly relaxed job. I dont know how to describe it. its so hard to decide because someone will say INFANTRY its the best! then someone will say GO 19k! you get to blow the bejesus out of buildings!

The Differential Theory of US Armed Forces (Snake Model) upon encountering a snake in the Area of Operations or A Diversified Approach to Military Operations:
Infantry: Snake smells them, leaves area.
Airborne: Lands on and kills the snake.
Armor: Runs over snake, laughs, and looks for more snakes.
Aviation: Has Global Positioning Satellite coordinates to snake. Can't find snake. Returns to base for refuel, crew rest, and manicures.
Ranger: Plays with snake, then eats it.
Field Artillery: Kills snake with massive Time On Target barrage with three Forward Artillery Brigades in support. Kills several hundred civilians as unavoidable collateral damage. Mission is considered a success and all participants (i.e. cooks, mechanics and clerks) are awarded Silver Stars.
Special Forces: Makes contact with snake, ignores all State Department directives and Theater Commander Rules of Engagement by building rapport with snake and winning its heart and mind. Trains it to kill other snakes. Files enormous travel voucher upon return.
Combat Engineer: Studies snake. Prepares in-depth doctrinal thesis in obscure 5-series Field Manual about how to defeat snake using counter-mobility assets. Complains that maneuver forces don't understand how to properly conduct doctrinal counter-snake ops.
Navy SEAL: Expends all ammunition and calls for naval gunfire support in failed attempt to kill snake. Snake bites SEAL and retreats to safety. Hollywood makes fantasy film in which SEALs kill Muslim extremist snakes.
Navy: Fires off 50 cruise missiles from various types of ships, kills snake and makes presentation to Senate Appropriations Committee on how Naval forces are the most cost-effective means of anti-snake force projection.
Marine: Kills snake by accident while looking for souvenirs. Local civilians demand removal of all US forces from Area of Operations.
Marine Recon: Follows snake, gets lost.
Combat Controllers: Guides snake elsewhere.
Para-Rescue Jumper: Wounds snake in initial encounter, then works feverishly to save snake's life.
Supply: (NOTICE: Your anti-snake equipment is on backorder.)
Transport pilot: Receives call for anti-snake equipment, delivers two weeks after due date.
F-16 pilot: Finds snake, drops two CBU-87 cluster bombs, and misses target due to weather.
AH-64 Apache pilot: Unable to locate snake, snakes don't show well on infrared.
UH-60 Blackhawk pilot: Finds snake on fourth pass after snake starts bonfire to mark Landing Zone. Rotor wash blows snake into the fire.
B-52 pilot: Pulls ARCLIGHT mission on snake, kills snake and every other living thing within two miles of target.
Missile crew: Lays in target coordinates to snake in 20 seconds, but can't receive authorization from National Command Authority to use nuclear weapons.
Intelligence: Snake? What snake? Only 4 of 35 indicators of snake activity are currently active. We assess the potential for snake activity as LOW.
Judge Advocate General (JAG): Snake declines to bite, citing grounds of professional courtesy.
CH-47 Pilot: Slingleg breaks in flight while sling loading anti-snake equipment, pilot cuts sling load. Sling load lands on snake and kills it. Crew chief uses dead snake to replace broken slingleg.
Navy Pilot: Draped snake around neck at Tail Hook to pick up chicks.
Military Police: Gave snake a sobriety test for not moving in a straight line.
Signal: Broadcasts 200,000+ watt transmissions in support of anti-snake missions, accidentally electrocuted snake in the process.
Corps of Engineers: Surveyed and researched area for plans on improving flood plain, can’t do it because snake is on the endangered species list.
Cooks: Snake sneaks in chow hall. Snake dies of food poisoning.

:aok signal rocks :aok at a very high decible, :O

:rofl Without a doubt my favorite.

As combat arm, you're not gunna be relax. If you want relax job, try something else like 25z, signal etc. combat arm, you're gunna have to man it up and just enjoy the harsher life style=)

Oh, i ment between the 3. 11X, 19D, 19K lol.
I am really starting to consider 19D. Can 19D Cavalry Scouts become go to RIP? Also could you tell me abit about them? I know they specalize in recon but in Iraq they are acting as Infantry. I know they drive light armored vehicals.
-
I'm Branch detail, so I got 4 years as combat arm w/ Armor, then I'm headin to signal captain career course. Armor is okay so far, I enjoy it. I hate tanks =D I love the scout stuff =)
One of my stryker almost rollover in our ftx.

19K, you're a tanker. (driver, loader, gunner, TC). 19D would be humvee, stryker or bradley. I rly dunno how it works in country, that's pendin on unit SOP. Generally, scout are usually act as infantry and dismount quite a lot.

19D is kind of like the German Grenadiers in WWII- ride around in light armored vehicles (or on heavier ones), then dismount and fight as infantry. They also fill the traditional Cavalry role (at least the American idea of cavalry) of light recon, skirmishers and screening larger forces. Tough job and a lot of different weapons and vehicles to learn, but at least you'd probably never be bored.
-
Yea, scout is hardwork but it's fun =)
-
Selino,
Your best bet of getting RIP is by going to Airborne School. Get the Airborne Infantry option. While in Airborne after Basic and AIT, they will ask for people to go to RIP. Just put your name in the book and off to RIP you go after you get your wings.

Ranger: Plays with snake, then eats it.

Still say happiness is a 120mm cannon and a 67 ton hunk of tracked death. But it takes all kinds. :)

MOS 42R . If you get deployed to a hotspot you'll thank me. :D :salute

Good Luck in whatever you choose!

I dont know, i am kinda leaning toward Infantry cause in the future i would hope to become a Ranger, plus i like the idea of Airborne and Air Assualt.
This is going to sound dumb but i have a freind who is joining the USMC and we both talk joke about each other choice of service. we'll both be getting back from training around the same time and we are gonna see who is more bad***. And Infantry really seems to be the most "hardcore" job.
I still havnt made up my mind tho, there is chance i might go 19D or 19K
-
Blackhawk mechanic. It was 67T when I was in. You can become a crew chief and fly with your aircraft. Lots of fun, except in combat. But at least you would not be walking everywhere.

xD if you enjoy 20miles humpin a day w/ 60-90lbs rucksack, going on 2-3 hours sleep then Ranger is for ju ! seriously though feels hooraah now but man a few years down the road, it doesn't really matter. I feels like that every time i go through a school. I'm always hooraah starting, but by day 50, i'm like a fuk who cares =D

Yup, thats how I was by the 10th week of OSUT for 19K. First week was totally gung-ho, by the last three weeks I was ready to slaughter every man in my Platoon and bathe in their blood, just for the few moments of blessed peace I would have before the MPs showed up.

Oh come on.... I can't be the only MP out there! I'd look into being an MP if I were you. If your recruiter is infantry he will more than likely want to beat you right then and there but it is a rewarding job.
I enjoyed it alot more than my current MOS (21C in reserves now) and can't wait to transfer back. The benefits are playing with all kinds of weapons, mounted ops instead of pounding pavement (or dirt), and a job with different tasks almost everyday.
Either way, don't sign until you get the exact job you want.

lol it sucks cause 3 of the 8 recruiters there have the mos i want, 1 is 11B, another is 19D and another 19K! so when i ask one about there job they all argue about whats the best lol!
I don't want to be a MP cause i am not intrested in doing all the police work. Even tho during deployments they do see combat
I think i got it narrowed down to 11X and 19D. I'll probably end up making a rash desicion while with the job counseler at meps lol! I might just choose which of the 2 has a bigger signing bonus. if that sounds like a plan?
-
try demolishins .you still get to crawl in the mud and blow s*%# up as well
-

Sounds like a plan to me, but make sure you check on the requirements for getting that bonus and how its awarded before using that as a criteria- they are notorious for spreading your 'bonus' over your entire enlistment or making you wait for the end of your term before getting it. Check on it.

ya, i think i might be lucky cause the Station Commander is helping me iwth my enlistment since my acctual recruiter is in Puerto Rico, so he said he'll be with me at MEPS when i get to the job selection, so he'll be able to explain everything.
Thanks to all who have assisted in helping me with my desicion. And a bigger thanks to all who have served! :salute

Go Artillery It's not called the King of Battle for nothing :aok
Genesis of the Field Artillery
In the beginning, there was chaos, and the chaos was the infantry, the queen of battle. However, the queen was alone. And fear was with the infantry, so she cried out unto the Lord saying, "Lord save me for I am afraid!"
And the Lord heard her grunts and set some of the infantry on beasts of burden, and these he called the cavalry, and the cavalry became armor. And when the Lord saw what he had done, he laughed saying, "Well, you can't win them all!"
As time passed, the infantry and the armor again cried out unto the Lord saying, "Lord save us, for we are afraid." The Lord heard their cries and decided to end their weepings.
The Lord said unto them, "I shall send unto you a race of men noble in heart and spirit." And the Lord created the Field Artillery, and named them the King of Battle.
And the Lord said unto the infantry and armor, "When it is dark, the King shall light your way. And when you need smoke, there shall be smoke, and when you need it to rain down death and destruction upon the enemy, you shall have it."
And the Lord gave the King big guns and big bullets. And the infantry and armor were jealous, for they had not. And the Lord gave the artillery rockets and missiles and nukes. And when the infantry and armor saw this, they fell to their knees in awesome wonder, saying surely the Lord is on the side of the artillery, the King of Battle.
And the Lord said, "CHECK!"
And abideth infantry, armor and artillery, but the greatest of these is the artillery.
I Am the Field Artillery
by John J. McMahon and Patricia S. Hollis
I am the United States Field Artillery. I fly the skies with my light forces, sail the sea with my Marines and pound the ground with my heavy forces. I see with satellites, touch with my terrible thunder and taste the sweet glory of victory. I am everywhere-mobile, agile and lethal. I Deal in Steel.
I was born of necessity in 1775 when the British fired upon our militia at Lexington and Concord. My six-pounder cannons were captured field pieces, drawn by oxen from battlefield to battlefield. I crossed the Delaware River with Washington on Durham boats and wintered at Valley Forge. At the moment of victory at Yorktown, it was I who fired the decisive rounds. I am Firepower for Freedom.
I was called to defeat the British again in 1812. I fired for the charge at Chippewa, out-dueling the Royal Artillery and carrying the day. I was there at the Battle of New Orleans with my lethal lanyards pulling devastation down on our enemy. Then in 1846, I stood fast against the superior forces of Santa Anna. The Mexicans came close enough to smell the smoke of my cannons and feel the deadly sting of my "grape" as my Flying Artillery bombarded the battlefield. I Rule with Thundering Steel.
And then in 1861, with my muzzle-loaded guns and my observers positioned by my side, I saw us torn apart by the War Between the States. I was there on both sides with the Blue and the Gray. My fires decided victory at Malvern Hill, Antietam, Shiloh, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. I am Mind-Numbing, Bone-Shattering Savagery.
I was part of the American Expeditionary Force that, under General Black Jack Pershing, helped defeat the Kaiser and the German Army in 1918. I had larger cannons, but my main arm was the French 75-mm gun drawn into battle position by horses. As World War II approached and the forces I fired for became more mobile, I moved by trucks and became armored Field Artillery. With my Priest 105-mm self-propelled howitzer and my observers forward with the tankers and infantrymen, I adjusted my ferocious fires for our forces. I massed fires by battery, battalion, Div Arty and even dealt my death by corps artillery. I am the Greatest Killer on the Battlefield.
I was there in the mountains of Korea and jungles of Vietnam. From Pusan and Inchon north to the Yalu, the pounding of my 155-mm towed guns helped bring about the Peace Accord at Panmunjom in 1953. In fire bases in Vietnam and with my airmobile firepower, it was I who brought howitzer hell to the enemy for our maneuver forces, using my multiple field pieces-105, 155, 175 and 203. I am Death on Call.
I was there for the Cold War as America stood her ground for international democracy. I gave her my Lance and then the mighty Pershing missile, which forced our opponents to the negotiating table. Though I never fired a missile in anger, my Pershing Peacemaker was strategic. I am Persuasive Power for Peace.
And I'll be there when you need me. I am ubiquitous on the battlefield. I can focus my firepower like a flashlight beam, raining death and destruction down upon our foe. My "rockets red glare" is now white-hot from six-packs of steel-rapid, far-reaching and awesome. The autonomous actions of my howitzers can shell out hell to bring our enemy to his knees. And when I'm done, he'll bow before me because -- I am and always will be The King of Battle.

That was my first MOS when I joined. Got a few hours in the front seat. Butyea, you don't get to fly in them much. Besides, they are getting getting replaced by the Apache, same problem tho.

Armor, need more of them than infantry.

For the best money when you get out, Medical Systems Repairer.....

Ha! If you want money 94M radar repairer... long school though, you'll spend close to your first 2 years in school.

Armor, need more of them than infantry.
How the hell would you know this.....Bradleys and Strykers are now used by Infantry, they drive them maintain them, they do everything plus they still dismount and get dirty with the leg bois and rangers

Are we still worried about the Soviets coming through the Fulda Gap?

Because Junky, nothing is needed more in the impassable mountains of Afghanistan than tanks. :D
-
unfortunatley most 19K's coming to infantry units(especially stryker brigades) wind up driving ICV version of stryker as a result of too many 19k's and not enough MGS versions of the Stryker..
-
Because Junky, nothing is needed more in the impassable mountains of Afghanistan than tanks. :D
LOL or the forests and impassable mountains of Korea :devil
btw Ranger, had a talk with my sqaud leader about Ranger school, he wants to see me go :)
-
My unit pulled me out of 4 schools. Since we're preppin to go down range. I had ARC, Stryker, TC, and Ranger lined up but it got yanked=/

Im at EIB right now going good but been lugging my rucksack around for the past week is starting to hurt my back. Now thats what we need new rucks, these molle system ones suck compared to the old ones but the old ones still sucked if they broke midway through a march(which mine seemed to do everytime I was rucking  )
