Does anybody know the tightest turn radius for bombers to hold onto a straight non-strying formation? Does it make a difference if the pitch is even versus a climb/drop?
-
Get in your nose turret and use your rudder to turn. Keeps your alt and speed, and your formation together unless you go "all out" and turn too fast.
The answer to your question..idk :D
-
Right, I get that but I am just wondering in technical terms. Is it a function of altitude, speed? Is it different for different bombers? ect....
-
Tightest turn the drones can manage is with a slow high yoyo. Pretty sure the limitation is a single bank angle for all drones in the game.
-
30 degree bank is the limit on the B-17s. The medium bombers seem to have the same limit as I keep losing those drones on tighter turns.

Is that at full speed? I seem to have thought 40 degrees as I were in LANCS last night.
I wonder if payload (weight) has anything to do with it. I would like Skuzzy to weigh in on this.

In lancs, a high pitch up maneuver while banking is most effective. The slower the airspeed, the tighter you may turn without either drone overshooting and going poof. It takes a bit of practice and watching over your shoulder, but I can get them 180 degrees in 15 or 20 seconds.
After the climb/turn, push the nose back down to your calibrated release speed and altitude, or very close to it, and you're good to go on the next run, without much calibration time.

Raider, I expect HT, Pyro, or Sudz are who you want to ask.

Rgr on that. I am just looking if it exists, some programming stats regarding this on a regular flat turn. Again I wonder if payload has anything to do with it. :salute

Lancs are special.................. Immelman Try it!!!

Bank angle is more important than weight. The drones already exceed player FM when they "catch up" to you after take off.

Please skuzzy or HITECH, weigh in on this. I know it seems kinda petty but I would like to understand these particualr dynamics better.

Bank angle.
-
Turning radius on most bombers is going to be dependent on your speed, rudder, which engines are producing what power, etc...... In other words it all depends and the answer is not very tight. However you can do an immelman, your drones stick with ya and spin around like a top lol. Then you will be right back on target! :huh

I saw a set of B26 Bs buzz a field @ a high rate of speed and extend like maybe 2 k out and climb straight up.
they did a split S and came back for another pass and didn't lose a drone.
looked kinda cool i think :rock
cant wait to try it in Buffs.
froger

Sounds like that tard "Fortress" again. Watched him almost get a hammerhead in B-17's the other day. Didn't lose a drone. Gotta love it.... the tardliness i mean. IRL 17's were limited to about 20 degrees nose up or down before the wingspars gave out.
-
I was at a V base the other night and Fortress rolled through in 17ns on the deck.
no bombs just nose gun bustin hard and then it happens....
he barrel rolled the lead 17 and kept goin.
swear he never got above 500 feat .......NICE!......

I hammerhead the 26s quite easily, drones are right in tight when you finish when bombing instinctively.
I find that the slower the air speed the easier it is for the drones to stay with you no matter which maneuver you do.

thats awesome ...
I'M gonna go off line n practice that 1 :aok

I got a reply back from Skuzzy stating that there were no stats for my original question and that the programming was very complex. :frown:
Oh well, I feel soooo nerdy ;)
