Formula One is thrown into chaos after eight F1 teams announce they plan to set up a breakaway championship in 2010.

I wish it would be unlimited, so we could see some crazy cars on the grid like back in the day...

Hmm. Personally i think the limit on spending is a good thing but i understand why the big spenders are sulking.

Personally, I really miss CanAm racing...
Those CanAm unlimiteds were the coolest
race cars ever... Faster than Indy or F1...

Chapperal, McLaren, Lola.... Gotta love it...

But those might be a little before your time...

Hmm. Personally i think the limit on spending is a good thing but i understand why the big spenders are sulking.

Because it includes using standardised parts - which goes against the "ideals" of F1...the teams (FOTA) want to be able to determine their own budgets, have more say in the regs and continue with the open formula, but this also about commercial rights and forcing FIA/Eccelstone to give up the majority of the cash to the teams.

I fail to see how its possible for FIA to continue without Ferrari, Red Bull, Toro Rosso, McLaren, Toyota, Renault, Brawn GP, and BMW Sauber who will also take all the drivers with them

This is my concern

On the other hand, anything that gets rid of the Max and Ernie show is a step in the right direction.

I dont, at least not for F1 - its supposed to be the most innovated, best & advanced open wheel racing series - not a new form of Indy car

Probably come down to a compromise - but the end of Max and Ernie can only be a good thing

News Update:

Mosley agrees not to stand for re-election as FIA president as F1 row comes to an end

FIA president Max Mosley has announced that Formula 1's governing body have reached an agreement with the teams who where planning to create a breakaway series.

Mosley made the announcement on Wednesday, seemingly ending the row over planned budget restrictions and technical changes for the 2010 season.

As part of the deal, Mosley has agreed not to stand for re-election as president.

"There will be no split. We have agreed to a reduction of costs," said Mosley.

"There will be one F1 championship (but) but the objective is to get back to the spending levels of the early '90s within two years."

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone added that he is "very happy common sense has prevailed."

The duo's comments came after meeting of FIA members in Paris aimed at resolving the crisis.

Writs that had earlier been threatened against Ferrari and other FOTA teams - McLaren, BMW Sauber, Renault, Toyota, Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso and Brawn GP - are now likely to be shelved.

Different animal all together. I actually think it would have been a good thing. They would have opened up some possibilities like racing at Spa , Watkins Glen and some of the other tracks that are no longer part of the F-1 circut. They would have forced the current regime out of business. If Ferrari isn't part of F-1 then F-1 is history.
