I'm goin fishing for two weeks. I would have to go into town to get internet service which I will do from time to time to keep in touch with my office but will not be playing.
I had an unusual tour. My only ditch was when I broke my gear on take off. :lol
I accidently bumped the stick as I was getting up from my computer. I tried to get it back on the runway because I didn't think I was going fast enough to snap gear. I'm such a goob.

Fishing has been quite good. There's a small lake you can get to by a very narrow channel and it has no public access. My frined Mike and I just killed the largemouth last night. We caught almost a dozen worth keeping, pretty much all between 3.5 and 4.5 pounds... we were really shocked to be pounding them so hard. This lake seems to have had no pressure lately. The bucket mouths were really going after it. :rock :rock

That is a great day for sure. Once. Only once. I had an incredible bass day. Was on a small private lake down by West Columbia, Texas by myself. I caught 42 bass. None real big. Most around 1.5 to 2 pounds but 35 were on topwaters. It was just crazy. I had one fish fly 2 feet out of the water twice to hit my lure. He missed both times. The third time he got it and I hooked him midair. That was the best one that day but all the others were great too. Days like that make u love fishing.
Enjoy yourself. Glad to hear it is going well.

Put em back. No reason to kill like that.

Aren't the sheep going to be jealous?

A few years back during spawn I nailed 6 bass all bigger than 3.5 pounds within one hour, including a 6.5 pounder I had mounted.

Stick with the chocolate chip and lay off the ginger snaps before boating, Steve. You don't the EPA hassling you. ;)

Everyone knows that there's no fishin in AZ. But I may go by your place and cut your internet lines for that trouncing you gave me in AvA the other day while your gone. (im in Goodyear) Muahahahahaaaaa :devil

lmao! I just ate breakfast... too full to be laughing so hard. You guys have good stuff today.
Bubba, I'm just glad to be out of the heat. It's 67 here right now.
Rich I'm catch and release man. I don't even like fish, lol. I don't try to preach it to others, though.

top water you normally have a small window that they hit like crazy, most of the time it's about a hour after sunrise (15min. window normally). I use to lake fish that's normally what I found to be the most useful time for top water on the lakes around my area.
sry this post is old just saw...was going from thread to thread.
-
what kind of fishing are you doing?
-
Was that you I saw the other day coming out of Pete's fresh frozen fish shop. A little advice. Don't do what a friend of mine did. Make sure the fish are thawed out before you give them to you wife to prep. Its a fairly good indication you were fishing for something else. Just a little advise.

lol Wagger
bass fishing oakranger mostly largemouth for top water, points and rock banks for smallmouth

There's two places that used to be like that in San Diego, Barrett Reservoir and Loveland Reservoir. Though I never hit the epic numbers (best I did at Barrett Reservoir was 35 bass in a day and 60 or so Bluegill and Crappie) some fishermen were claiming 100+ bass in a day. Barrett Reservoir is also a catfisher's dream, got a 28 pounder out of there once and someone else got one that was around 50 pounds or so.

That's a helluva day by anyone's standards. Plus Cali Bass can be hogs so you probably had some big ones in that group of 35.
-
Yeah I look at a good bass day if I catch around 10 or so. I need to go fishing with you'll.

Most of the large mouth bass in California lakes and reservoirs are Florida Largemouth since most of the the lakes and reservoirs over here are stocked. There are a few that have northern largemouth that are native to California but they don't get as big as the Florida largemouth nor in my opinion put up as good of a fight.
One thing I loved about Barrett is it made you feel like the best fisherman in the world because it was so easy to catch bass there, you could have stuck your hand in the water and pulled a dozen out. Hell, you could probably walk on the water because that lake was so full of them but I never recall hearing anyone catch anything larger than 12 pounds. I know the ones I would catch were probably on average around 3 to 4 pounds, if that. Barrett was all about quantity, not size. If you wanted big bass, Otay Lakes Reservoir, Lake Murray, Mirimar or Dixon were the best bets, people have pulled out 20 pounders in each of those lakes. One guy got the unofficial record at Dixon until it was discovered he didn't hook it, he snagged it near the dorsal fin which is why he never officially registered the catch.

You mounted a fish during the spawn? That's just cold. But if your state allows it... <shrug>. Glad my main fishing state doesn't :aok

A year long fishing thread. Nice.

Ah Grizz, you killed it..... I was hoping Steve would be the first to see it. You only halfway can't stand me, Steve is full-on would smack me if he could. (Just wanted to keep him with ammo for it) :D

All kidding aside, the day I could land every of 23 sorties (err, 22 out of but a ditch is a land anyway) I'd be pretty happy about it myself.
Steve........... Have some fun out there and catch a few big ones!
-
Just for reference if you catch a large mouth over 22Lbs 4 oz. which is the record It's estimated to be worth over 1 Million Dollars - so go fish for retirement.
-
Steve does look alot younger in his pictures.
Good luck fishing!

It's all good, but just for the record, this thread is one year old. Your comment however, is coincidentally applicable, as his annual fishing trip is coming up soon I believe. :aok
-
LOL.... I just went back and saw the punt. :salute
If he's going bass fishing, my thoughts will be with him for a 23 pounder!
-

I'm afraid you are mistaken. While there are a few people in game who I hold in disdain and a couple I would wordlessly dropkick given the opportunity, you are not among them. :aok
As for fishing. I'm indeed going bass fishing but the lakes I'll be fishing also hold excellent Muskie, Northern, and walleye. 23 pounder.. wow that owuld rock. I"ve never had the good fortunre of landing a largemouth bigger than 7 pounds.
I love to fish though... a month away from my trip and I'm already excited!
-
Steve...a few years back, on the first cast, my friend caught a 11lb 33" walleye in Canada. I have a picture somewhere I can get tomorrow if you would like to see it.
We were flown in by float plane and the second plane (which I and a few others were on) weren't even there yet and he already caught the damn thing. In the first hour of a 4 day trip!
-
Walleye and pike are the two fish I would like to fish for next, never have before. Fished for sturgeon the first time a couple of weeks ago when I went back down to San Diego for the weekend at one of the lakes/reservoirs up in the local mountains. Was fishing for trout using salmon eggs when I got one. Ugly fish but a good fight.

Walleye are the best eating IMO. They can be a decent fight.
Northern really love to fight, but are very bony so unless you know a method they aren't worth filleting.
On a different trip in Canada, my father dropped a red and white Genny beer can in the water off the boat and a Northern came up and chomped on it. Scared the crap out of him as he was leaning to get it.

WOOO FISHING!
Personally, I prefer saltwater fishing, my favorite opponent being the Red Drum, and my favorite location being the bays and inlets around Port Aransas, Texas. Been vacationing there for years.

Seriously, this fish is so awesome that it qualifies for stained-glass church window status! :D
