I was at big bear lake. It was for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the water park.  my dad has been the auditor for the pageant for 25 years.

Perhaps. But WV isn't like Texas, where the men are men, so are the women, and the sheep are nervous.

I take it that is a first hand account?  Or should i say,..right-hand account?

A truth:  Texas is big enough, that if you are looking for the above, you could probably find it.  Then again, why are you looking for it?

The biggest problem Texas faces is the transplants from other states.  I guess there must be a lot of sheep lovers out there.  I have an idea.  Why don't you transplants stay where you are, and we will ship the sheep to you? :)

Afterall, the only use we native Texans have for them is BBQ and nice wool suits.

AHEM!  As I was born in Pasadena, Texas & now live in TN; I feel that I am qualified to speak on the subject of Tx vs. Tn BBQ. 1st point of order: Memphis BBQ is based on the generous application of dry-rub, sauced only at the end of the  cooking & pertains to pork.  Tx BBQ is based on a lite dusting of rub (usually just salt & pepper) with liberal mopping during the cooking process & pertains to beef, especially brisket. (ahhhh, i think i can smell Kreuz's all the way over here!)

so saying Memphis BBQ is better than Central Tx BBQ (and vice versa) is like saying apples are better than oranges; the two are related by inherently different.  However, a person may decidedly prefer one over the other.  Me, I like pork ribs over beef ribs, but I like brisket over pulled pork.

Gawd, now I'm just hungry.....road trip! :x

(lest I forget the OP's point....lucky you  :aok )

I didn't have a choice in the matter. Uncle Sam decided I was needed in Tx, but I left just as soon as I could  :D

Since this thread has devolved into a Texas versus the rest of the world...as most do...or which place has the best BBQ...as the rest of the threads where Texas is mentioned do...Let me just say this. I have eaten BBQ all over.

I like the Countly Line at the Lakes there in Austin; I also like this little hole in the wall a customer took me to in Fort Worth; I have eaten at Corky's and Rendevous in Memphis; I have eaten at little hole in the wall joints all over the South from Texas to the Carolinas....my only advice is to stay away from anything named Sonny's and most commercial joints as well. Also look for the places the locals eat at and try not to be a BBQ tourist that takes the fun out of eating the local flavors and enjoying them for what they are...different!

Personally I like Full Moon BBQ here in Birmingham because you can get all sorts of BBQ from beef to pork to chicken and it is all really good. I also love this little place down in Selma that only serves chopped pork sandwiches on three slices of white bread...The place has no name but the line is about a block long at 6am with guys getting their sandwiches for lunch that day and the old black man who ran it has passed it on to his son...and they only take CASH!

Probably the best BBQ I've ever had was from a place called Lone Star BBQ, in Oceanside, CA.

Me and some of my Texan USMC buddies went there almost every weekend when we were at Pendleton.

Rule of thumb when buying BBQ is to never get the chopped BBQ (pork or beef). Many just cut up what didn't sell for the last 2 days and sell it for chopped. That is ok but the problem comes in when they mix what is left of that with some more chopped. Ends up being 2 week old BBQ mixed in.

I was in the meat business for just over 20 years. I've seen stuff that would curl your toes.

Well unlike you.. I do not watch women's shows. Thought it might be some plane when I looked at the thread.

As for BBQ... I know my way around a pit or pits. The most I've ever cooked at one time would be last year. Cooked over 400 briskets in one weekend.

Dude some of the women's shows are the best ones.  IE  the swimsuit competition was almost like being in a strip club.
